“It's Easter Island, be prepared to spend”
Reviewed August 1, 2012

First out, let me clarify, is this place expensive? Yes, yes it is. Is it worth it? It damn is worth it when you're in freaking Easter Island away from the world and have a unique experience.

I'm the kind of person who greatly appreciates simple commodities and praises good amenities in unlikely circumstances. First off, the setting is incredibly pleasing. The view from the terrace is simply breathtaking, and the fact that you have an actual moai a 5 minute walk away is a true plus. The staff are wonderful, pleasant and diligent, you won't have problems there. The fact that thet have WiFi at the lobby is a great feature and even though the bandwith was very limited (try getting internet on this island at all) I was quite satisfied with it.

Breakfasts are quite simple. Not special at all, really, but I'm not thinking about breakfast when I'm at Easter Island. Lunch and dinner, however, are another story. Yes they are very expensive, but trust me when I tell you that the food is top notch, a local fish lunch was amazing and a dinner buffet we had was THE BEST BUFFET IN MY LIFE.

Rooms are private cabins that have the basics. No complains, beds are comfortable and there's a small safe in each one. Bathrooms are awesome, two showers, one with an open roof. Oh and hot water (don't tell me you didn't half expect not to find hot water easily in this island).

All in all a very pleasant experience. We booked an itinerary with the hotel website and got a tour guide all for ourselves (Matías). The hotel IS a about a 20 minute walk to Hanga Roa, but when you take the Tahai road with the moai you won't mind at all, trust me.

Its a great place, you won'r regret it. Just remember you're in Easter Island.

Oh, one thing I did hate was the complimentary coffee, ugh, it tasted really weird. >_<

Room Tip: Keep in mind that when it gets really windy, the deck chairs outside your cabin may be too noisy. Co...

During a vacation filled with great hotels, we found the Altiplanico to be a disappointment. The rooms are charming looking spacious bungalows, with private patios looking toward the ocean. However, the beds are on platforms which are larger than the mattresses, making it difficult to get out of bed if you're older than 40. There was no heat, and it was winter when we there there. What passes for a sofa in the room is small and not very comfortable. Lighting in the room was very good. When we arrived in Easter Island, our guide gave us beautiful leis, which we draped over a chair back. The cleaning crew, however, took them away! Don't know why, but we were very upset. When our flight was delayed for five hours, we asked if we could stay in one of our rooms for a few hours after ordinary checkout, but we were told we could not unless we paid for an additional night. Other hotels of which we have asked this favor have consented unless all room were committed (which was obviously not true based on the offer to give us the extra time if we paid for another night), although sometimes they didn't give us all the time we asked for. We ate one dinner at the hotel's restaurant. The food was fine, but it was very expensive, at least 50% more than a similar meal in town, and the drink I had was twice the price. At breakfast, they didn't know how to cook various varieties of eggs, and, once explained, the eggs were delivered cold. Definitely not worth the premium price.

A very good value boutique hotel with individual log-style cabins shaped like boats. Only 4 kms from the airport. Amazingly a full English breakfast is served by a very friendly team. No TV or phone in the room, but Internet computers available free off the foyer. Free tea and coffee on tap near the foyer all the time. Jacuzzi and pool open in Summer only. Food is of a high standard, but can vary from day to day depending on what is available. Other restaurants available by taxi or walk ( 1/2 hour). Showers only, no baths and the hotel is very secluded and quiet.
Wine is available in Supermarkets in the town.English speaking staff, but a smattering of Spanish would be helpful. For those who have travelled to Australia with Trailfinders, it is really a copy of Bloomfields ! You should get your passport stamped at the post-office as a souvenir,.

Room Tip: Room 16 is beautifully positioned and secluded

Understandly there isnt much choice for hotels on Easter Island (or should I say Rapa Nui) We looked at the explora but decided it was too expensive, at the other end of the scale there's lots of B&B's but the Alti was a good choice for us (we like good 4* hotels that are small, boutique type) My advice would be remove all expectations of what a hotel should be on easter island and go with an open mind. You pay $400 a night and compare would you might get in Santiago for that - dont! Hotels are expensive because pretty much everything is imported.

The bed was comfy and we spent many nights with the curtains open just staring through the patio doors to the stars. the large shower with glass ceiling was great, much better than I expected. The staff are lovely and accommodating (we even rented one of their cars!) The breakfast was great, some cooked dishes, lots of fresh juices, fruits, cakes, meats etc

The best part of the hotel is probably the location. Far enough from town to be tranquil to admire the sunsets but close enough to town to walk in for dinner

The hotel stunned me for its beautiful view and silence. Coming from a busy city this is the perfect place to unwind, rest and relax. The rooms are simple but you dont need anymore. The open living room area next to the restaurant was by far my favourite place. Service was good, dinner was pricy but worth it (US50). Everything was clean and staff was very helpful. I would definitely go back.
P.S. I also stayed at Hangaroa and I prefer Altiplánico for the peaceful atmosphere and gorgeous view.

Firstly, congratulations to whoever selected the staff for this hotel. Everyone from the manager, receptionists, chefs, waiters and cleaners were competent, friendly and welcoming.
From our welcome drinks to our check-out everything went perfectly.

The main features:-
1. The bungalows are spacious, comfortable and private.
2. The food is delicious, especially the islander-style buffets. You will never be hungry here.
3. The views from some huts are excellent as are the water views from the administration, dining and pool area.
4. The ocean and a nearby moai is a 20 minute walk away.
5. It was quite unusual and eerie to wake up at 7am to darkness and just sit out on the front terrace lounge admiring a million stars (but take mosquito repellent).

The only downsides are:-
1. The town is a long walk away. But as this place is self-contained and with bus tours picking you up it doesn't really come into play.
2. This place is expensive.

But it is a fantastic place to splurge at the end of a hectic South American holiday.

Room Tip: One hut IMO is better than all the others. I'm not telling you which one but it is a long walk f...
