“Charming and Private”
Reviewed September 3, 2013

A charming and private place to stay while touring Easter Island. Christophe met us with a lei greeting then drove us around town to point out the main sites. The Cabanas is an easy mile walk from center of town-take the scenic along the ocean route and meet a giant turtle. Our room faced the ocean which was lovely to sit out in the morning while eating breakfast and watch the sunset and night sky. Across the road is the start of the trail to Orongo which is a beautiful hike with panoramic views of the town and island as you ascend. And convenient to hike back down to our room. Also, a wonderful hidden cave is close-by. We were able to get a ride from Christophe to town or take an inexpensive taxi ride back to the Cabanas. Nearby is a mini-market to buy snacks and drinks. We rented a car from Christophe for one day to drive around the island and visit other Moai sites not covered on the great archaeological tour that we took. Breakfast is simple-juice, ham and cheese slices, bread, leftovers kept in refrig for lunch or snack later. Water kettle provided to boil water to make own tea or coffee. Christophe is most friendly and accommodating- a guidebook written by a local is provided to help plan your visits. The room was clean and spacious with a double bed and two bed bunk-we were 2 people; bathroom a bit small but good shower pressure and towels provided. The TV could not get a signal but we watched a provided DVD about Rapa Nui. We enjoyed the privacy of this place.

Room Tip: Ask for a front room to facing the ocean.

We enjoyed our stay at Cabanas Christophe. We had a small cabin with one double bed and a bunk bed. We were just two people staying there and it was big enough for us. If you are four people travelling together, it would be much more comfortable to stay in the the biggest cabin (la maisonette).

The cabin was not that fancy, but it's clean and comfortable. There's wifi, but the signal was too weak inside our cabin, so it was better to sit outside on the terrasse when using the internet.

Christophe (the French owner) served a simple breakfast in our room each morning. He was a very helpful host and we really appreciated that he gave us a very useful guidebook to use during our stay.

We rented a car from Christophe and the price was fair enough. We had bad luch one afternoon when two of the tires went flat, but we just had to wait about 10 minutes to get help from Christophe. He changed the tires and never tried to charge us for that.

The biggest drawback about this place is the location, it's a little bit far from the village where you find all the restaurants. This wasn't a big problem for us since we had a car, but I think I would have prefered to stay somewhere else if I was visiting the island without renting a car.

Greatly encouraged by reviews on Tripadvisor, I spent 3 nights here and was glad I had done so. The welcome from Cristophe is much appreciated after the 5 hour flight to Easter Island. A flower garland, a car tour of the important places in Hanga Roa then back to the cabanas for a flop onto a comfortable bed.

The cabins are furnished to a high standar and had all you needed. Mine could sleep 4 comfortably and had a freezer, microwave, hairdryer, tv and dvd player. Bathroom had a powerful shower. The location is great - you look out at the sea and the hibiscus blossom. Opposite the entrance is the start of the path up to Orongo which takes around 50 minutes. It is a little walk into the restaurants, but with a torch this was fine at night.

Cristophe is very encouraging for you to explore the island at your pace and the use of the guidebook was great at this is all you need. His family has several small jeeps to rent and this was perfect for getting around to all the main sites, having time at the beach and eating out in the evenings. I would very much recommend this as you can take your time where and when you want to, with the guidebook provided context to each site.

Breakfast was ample - even enough for lunch. The view of the southern hemisphere night sky on a clear night is also spectacular.

All in all a great place to stay. I wouldn't hesitate to book again should I ever find myself on the path to Easter Island.

merci pour tous, Cristophe. C'etait vraiment un plaisir!

We stayed at Cabanas Cristophe for 2 nights in a short getaway to Isla de Pascua. Christope is a really nice person and everytime was looking forward to help. He handled to us a book to tour Island by ourselves, it was really useful. He also rented a car to us to get around the island, very convenient. Cabins are located in front to the shore, at the base of Rano Kau volcano, location is wonderful.

I highly recommend this place. Cristophe (the owner) is the nicest guy. He picked me up from the airport with a traditional flower garland. I loved it. Cabanas are clean and cosy. He brought me breakfast every day, which consisted of fresh warm buns, ham and cheese and jam and juice. In the cabanas you have access to tv, dvd, wifi (not the fastest but it will do for email, facebook and or instagram), fridge, microwave and a electric cattle.

It's a bit outside of Hanga Roa so if you don't mind a walk it's gonna be perfect. It is close to two attraction of the island, the Rao Kau volcano with the Orongo ceremonial village and the cave of Ana Kai Tangata.

Room Tip: Choose the superior room above Cristophe's house. It has the best view.

We decided to stay at Cabanas Christophe based on trip advisor reviews - and we are happy we did. Christophe and his cabanas are great. He gave us an orientation tour of the town, gave us tips about where to eat and where to go, arranged a car rental for us. The room was large and very clean and Christophe was always available to help. Nicely situated and THE place to stay for a trip to Easter Island. Our only regret... too short of a stay (4 days). Visitors to Easter Island should stay a minimum of a week to enjoy the myriads of things to do and see.

We just came back from this amazing trip to Isla de Pascua. I want to thank Christophe for his help. We stayed very comfortably in Cabana Christophe. He is very friendly, helpful, and thoughtful. He delivered breakfast to our room, brought a new car to our door. The city tour when we arrived turned out to be very helpful when we went out on our own. Room was well stocked with juice, milk, coffee, tea, etc. we felt like we had our own car and everything we needed right there. All we did was to go out explore the island. I have to mention that I have never reserved a room this easy in Chile, Christophe did not ask for passport number, credit card, or deposit. All he needed was flight info for picking up. Would highly recommend it!
