Mas du Clos de l'Escarrat
Ranked #1 of 4 Jonquieres B&B and Inns
Reviewed August 28, 2012

We drove here for long weekend from Switzerland. We loved our stay here and will go back some day! The B&B itself is very peacefully located next to a long vineyard, very private and calm. Perfect for a romantic weekend or simply to relax with friends. It has a nice swimming pool and large garden. The rooms have a balcony, where we loved to try the newly purchased wines with a vineyard view. There is also a small kitchen in case you need to cook something or just have a tea. I must say that the only thing I didn’t like about my room was that it didn’t have enough natural light. However, the weather was so nice that you simply hang around in the balcony, pool or garden. Charles and Andrée were very welcoming, make sure you ask them for tips on what to do and especially where to go for dinner, they will happily make a reservation for you on an amazing local restaurant. We also did the wine tour with Charles, which we strongly advise. He is very knowledgeable and honest and drives you around local vineyards where you get to know the most popular Chôte du Rhone wines, but also less known but as good or even better than the famous ones.

Many thanks for your nice review. Regarding your comment "the only thing I didn’t like about my room was that it didn’t have enough natural light." I must say that this has been done on purpose as the 2 studios have their main door (full glass window) looking to East. And the roof is exposed to the South. We have 300 days of sun per year and if you don't protect the rooms from the heat... they would be like ovens ! Moreover, we have installed air conditionning in ALL sour rooms to rent, so the temperature can be perfectly controlled. Another argument is that when you are in Provence, you are living outside... Inside is just for rest without the need of bright light.
Thank you very much for your great comments regarding the wine tour !

We loved our week here. Charles and Andree are extremely gracious hosts and made us feel most welcome. The wine tasting is an experience in itself and Charles' care and knowledge made the trip fun, personal and informative. The property and surrounding countryside are beautiful, the wine villages amazing to explore and Avignon is a great city. This is an ideal base to explore this part of France. Thanks again.

Dear HK guests we are very pleased to read your review and your very positive comments. It's true that travelling with a young baby is not always very easy, so we do our best to provide our guests with all the necessary stuff : cot, chair, toys, bath tub... And of course, free laundry service !
Please inform your friends that we'll always be very pleased to host guests from your country. Thank you !

This is my first travel since my son born 12 months ago. We're from Hong Kong and stayed in Mas du Clos de l'Escarrat for 5 nights. All the positive comments of the other guest are ture. Other than those, I am not gonna to repeat, I would like to give an great thanks to Charles and Andree for their help, service and advise that are best out of our expectation, as following:
~Thanks for the entertaining toy (clean and functionable) for my 12 months old son. He is so happy with it.
~Never expect to have a baby high chair and baby bath tub for using in the room, but we got! Surprising!
~We haven't join the wine tour, but Charles and Andree is still happy to give and share his advise for us to do our own winery visit. How can you imagine that I got a bottle of Rose form Charles and VIP coupon of a winery, and so I got 1 other free bottle.
~The day before we left Provence and departure to the next stop, Paris. Laundry is so important. With the laundry machine opened and the hanger provided, we done 2 loads (1 for my wife and my and another for the baby) in a morning. After hanging the clothes, we went out to travel at afternoon. At evening, clothes dried, cleaned and ready for packing. Thanks Andree for your kindness! Thanks for the Sun!

To sum up, if I visit Provence again, I will go back to Mas du Clos de l'Escarrat. Highly recommended.

The only regret is that I have missed the pool as the baby is not ready to use it.

One last advice: Don't miss the chance to talk and share your journey/plan of visit when you meet Charles and Andree. Their advice always help you make a better plan.

An ideal location, close to Avignon, the Ardeche and the coast (and quiet garden with sheltered pool). Quiet, clean, comfortable room with a balcony overlooking vines and le Mont Ventoux on the horizon. Our week passed too quickly!

Dear British guest... We are very pleased to read you because most of our English speaking guests are North American or Australians. So it's very important for your compatriots to read a review written by an objective and very fair British couple that we have been delighted to host.
Merci beaucoup !

We enjoyed comfortable rooms decorated with personal touches, personal patios and kitchens for each unit, a pool surrounded by foliage, breakfast in the garden accompanied by the music of the cigale crickets of Provence, and warm, multilingual hosts who provided excellent council about the regional sites. Our vacation in Provence would not have been the same without our wonderful hosts and their delightful farmhouse villa.

Room Tip: Ground floor is roomier.

Merci K and R for this very sincere review. We have been SO pleased to host both of you not only for informing you about the places to visit etc... but also because you were both surprisingly so exceptional French speaking Americans !!! We know that you are also excellent hosts at your VRBO rental in Oregon. (Wind song at the Sea Gypsy). We do hope to visit you in the near future !

A gem nestled in the vineyards of Provence. Private, romantic yet close enough to drive to all the towns in Provence. In a week we went from Barcelona to Italy, . and found this place to be ideally located for our ambitious itinery- Barcelona, Sete, Avignon, Orange, Arles, St Remy, Apt, Isle Sur la Sorque, Nice, Monte Carlo and a quick entry into Italy for gellato... We found this B&B to be cozy, charming, convenient and the hosts helpful with the friendliest cat in France. We went to the market bought food and celebrated Easter with a meal cooked in our own little kitchen . The patio has beautiful uninterrupted views. We like our vacations to be as far from the usual hotel experience as possilbe. This was the ideal setting to enjoy Provence, If only for a week we sampled what it's like to live among the grapes.

Room Tip: Make sure you have good maps, you cant always rely on the GPS.

I must admit though a bit embarrassed to comment it as the owner of le Mas du CLos de l'Escarrat, that this place is indeed very romantic : secluded in the middle of the vines with a breathtaking view over le Mont Ventoux (a famous Tour de France biking mountain), a shadowy garden and a great relaxing pool with salt water. Just open a bottle of Cotes du Rhone wine and ENJOY the pleasure to stay in a 17th century restored Provence farm house!!!

Charles and Andree have developed the perfect location to relax and enjoy Provence. After just one evening we decided to extend our stay another night. Quiet and peaceful. The B&B is situated near to all the wonderful sights of Provence, yet secluded enough to provide the relaxation needed on a vacation. Tomorrow is the wine tour and we expect the same level of expertice and experience.

T and K we also have enjoyed very much your company ! What a good idea you make me thinking of : guests must ask a prescription to the Doctor in order to get some rest days at le Mas du Clos de l'Escarrat in Provence ! Unfortunately, the Social Security will not refund...
Merci again for your very kind words. We are expecting your visit at your earliest convenience.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Located in Jonquieres 6 miles from Orange antique theater, and 20 minutes only from Avignon in the heart of Popes's Provence and northern sunny Vaucluse, the Mas du Clos de l'Escarrat is a lovely old stone farm house, of typical Provencal style, which incorporates buildings dating back to the 17 th Century. This bed and breakfast has been carefully renovated to preserve its authentic, rustic character and charm, without compromising the need for modern comfort in all the accomodations. Breathtaking view over Ventoux Mount. Comfortable self-catering accommodations. Lots of tourism and visits in Provence. Beautiful landscapes and lavender fields in the Luberon area. These accommodations are located near Avignon, Chateauneuf du Pape. Tour the wine route with us and enjoy unforgettable wine tasting of Cotes du Rhone wines including the prestigious Chateauneuf du Pape. Charles and Andree purchased le Mas (meaning farm in Provencal vernacular) at the end of 1995. The old farm, dating from the XVIIth Century, was nearly a ruin, so they decided to completely renovate it, transforming it into a Bed and Breakfast with self-catering units. By mid-1996, the first two studios, "Ventoux" and "Montmirail", were ready for rental. A crystal clear swimming pool was installed in the winter of 1997, featuring a diatom powder natural filtration system with salt water electrolysis purification. Under the careful eye of Andree, the garden has become a tranquil place with additional flowers attracting birds and cicadas. As more and more guests asked for accommodations at le Mas du Clos de l'Escarrat, two more rooms, "Ouveze" and "Mistral", were added in 1999. Andree, with her architecture and design background has kept updating the decor of the rooms with her exquisite taste. Recently, she has worked on the design for the exterior walls of le Mas. Charles began leading wine tasting tours in 2002 to special wineries, which has delighted many guests and has proven to be popular ! Titus (Lab) and Auguste (American cocker) will welcome you in their very friendly manner.... ... more   less
