“Must see in the Dordogne valley”
Reviewed August 20, 2014

When you are here for only just a few days (or longer) this is a place you must visit. It's beautifull in tact, a great tour, and takes you right back into history.

“Interesting and different!”
Reviewed August 19, 2014

This was on my 'wish list' to see when we were in France. I was so pleased we went there. It is a long way to walk up to the entrance. One of our friends has a leg problem but took his time and made it o.k. It is worth the climb. Amazing when you think it is all set in a rock face. All the rooms are done beautifully and give you a sense of what it would have been like to live then. The only room I couldn't explore fully was the torture chamber. I had to leave! too much for me, so please do not take children in there. I did see someone with a child enter - I hope she took her out quickly!

“Worth it!”
Reviewed August 6, 2014 via mobile

We were very impressed especially my husband who is a history buff. There is a lot of walking but worth it. Staff very helpful - my husband asked them if he could get some of the documentation in Englosh - they said they would email it to him. When we got home, they had emailed it to him!

“Good but you must be able to walk!”
Reviewed July 25, 2014

Went with friends, if you have problem walking this is not the place for you.
Also several stairs inside the house.
Very interesting place you will have a taste of living in...olden days...and appreciate a modern kitchen!!!!
Unusual house with good view.
AVOID the torture chamber, nothing water down in there especially with children, they will have nightmares!
Small gift shop with local stuff in it.

IF you speak french you will miss less info.

“Fascinating and fun.”
Reviewed June 27, 2014

A Good fun look at how people might have lived over the centuries. Set in the rock face, it's an interesting fort. I much preferred the Chateau Commarque near by, but this fort was also very interesting none the less. Probably a lot better for kids too.

As for the guy who gave this a terrible rating as they would not let him in at 7pm.... Come on, who arrives at a sight at 7pm?? You can't call them terrible because they wanted to go home and you did not leave in good time. There is a sign in English making it clear that last admission is 6.15pm. Perhaps they added this after seeing your review?
