This was one of my favourite places I stayed in central America. I turned up to the Monkey Hut without a reservation and found the place I was looking for, a gorgeous private room with glass doors opening out to the beautiful view of the lagoon. The room was beautifully-appointed and clean. I decided to stay an extra night, and moved into the dorms. Again, clean, well decorated and very homely. The team at the Monkey Hut are simply superb - so friendly and kind and helpful - particularly Filemon and Daniela, who are just lovely.

I loved it here and will definitely come back - you should definitely stay here if you're going to Lago de Apoyo.

We had made arrangements to say at Paradiso but were run off by the manager. We walked into the Monkey hut without reservations, booked a room and was splashing around on the lake in 10. The place is clean! Hard to find clean in Nicaragua! The staff is Happy! There were lots of things to do. We took walks around the lake, saw monkeys, stopped in a wildlife research station, the huge resort, kayaked, swam, etc. The view is spectacular. Th food was ok, the staff runs down the road to get it from another business. The bar was inexpensive. They provide you with a number so that you dont have to carry cash with you all the time. A girl who was staying alone had gotten sick and passed out from dehydration and mayb too much beer needed to get to a hospital. The staff was truly concerned and one of them who spoke pretty good english went with her. The arrived back after 4am. the next day everyone asked about her. They truly seemed to care. We were going to the airport the next day, so we took a cab, and our new sickly German friend with us. The staff was great! The location is great! Go, Stay, It was the best part of our 2 months in Nica! Thanks to everyone at the Monkey Hut for changing my mind about Central America!

Room Tip: The price is right, just choose a dorm or a private. They are all very nice.

Took a day trip to Laguna Apoyo. And spent $6 entry fee to enjoy the Monkey Hut. The place is in a secluded area, the beer prices are great and had tubing and kayaking...the only drawback is no signage so you need a local to get you there; but totally worth it!

I stayed for two nights in one of the recently renovated double rooms and it exceeded my expectations. For $40USD I got a beautiful view of the lake, a quiet starlit evening, my own bathroom in a comfortable and cozy bedroom. You won't regret spending time here. The kayaks to explore the lake are free and the nature is all for you to contemplate. Swimming in the lake is lovely. Don't wake up early, as theres no restaurant and breakfast has to be ordered from outside. The hotel has the menu and organises the delivery. There's no dinner after 8pm so make sure to order earlier. If the lack of a restaurant doesn't put you off and you ate likely to cook -there's a kitchen, or don't mind waiting for food to be delivered then I'd recommend staying here. No luxuries, but comfort and breathtaking scenery.

My friend and I only spent one night here and it was a really nice property, however it didn't have the same feel as another hostel in the area that we stayed at. This place was much more rigid and corporate-feeling than Hostal Paradiso up the road. That said, it definitely met all of our needs. The property was well-kept, the dorm room (where we slept) was clean and had clean bathrooms and showers, they served good food and had a decent bar. My only complaints would be that the bar closed at 8pm. Since this location is a bit off the beaten path, this made it difficult to enjoy the nights in this lovely location. It was also a bit more expensive than the other hostel in the area, which would have been fine if it offered more amenities than the other hostel, but it didn't.

We have not spent the night here but get a day pass one or two times a year when we are staying in Granada. This is a wonderful place to spend the day away from people asking for money or trying to sell you things you do not want. Included in the day pass is all day coffee and use of the kayaks. Take a bus from Granada in the morning or a bus anytime to the junction and a cab on to the Monkey Hut

We have never stayed at this hostel over night but go to it for the day. They have day passes where you can use the facilities for swimming and kayaking. Wonderful relaxation with no one trying to sell you anything or anyone begging for money. Free coffee with day pass and food available to buy.

Room Tip: Take a bus to the turnoff and then a taxi to the resort or take a bus both to and from the resort fr...
