The Maynard was offering a winter deal inclusive of dinner with a bottle of wine for two. I had expected a cheap wine and restricted menu but no, we had the full menu and either a Sauvignon Blanc or Merlot from Chile to choose from. The menu tends towards the nouvelle cuisine in being a little fussy but the food is first rate. Venison was wonderfully tender; salmon steak was done to perfection; and the lamb was delicious. The staff were charming and really interested to provide a good service. The standard room was well-furnished and the bathroom newly-fitted.

Thank you for your excellent review. We are delighted the staff were attentive and that you enjoyed the food in our two AA rosette restaurant. We aim to do a variety of different food in the bar and restaurant to cater for those wanting a hearty meal, to those who wish to try slightly more exotic nouveau cuisine.

We are constantly updating our website with new offers and hope to be able to welcome you to The Maynard again in the future.

Kind Regards

Stayed here for a 3 night break in January with our dog, excellent value for money and a lovely location as a base for walking in the Dark Peak area of the Peak District. This is also one of the few hotels in this are that accept pets in the rooms at a very small additional charge, the only area dogs are not allowed is in the restaurant area but in the bar they are more than welcome. The rooms were excellent and with a very modern decor and good size even for the standard room. The breakfast is also excellent and included in the room rate for our visit. All of the staff were excellent and very helpful, friendly and polite. We would highly recommend this to anybody, if you are looking for a lovely boutique Hotel in the Peak District for the same price as a Bed & Breakfast in most other areas then this is the place and we will be visiting again for certain. Thanks to all the staff that made our stay brilliant. Paul, Jane & Rusty.

We stayed at the Maynard recently on a overnight visit to see our daughter who lives in Sheffield. We have stayed at several different hotels in this area over the last 3 years or so and always take our border collie with us so we can go walking with him. This hotel has been the best one we have stayed in and will definitely book again. The room (10) had wonderful views, was spotless and had a huge vey comfortable bed. The staff were very helpful and made us feel very welcome. We ate in the bar in the evening and would recommend the lamb shank and Yorkshire Parkin. The breakfast was served in the restaurant with wonderful views of the Hope Valley. Wish we had found this hotel before.

Stayed for a very frosty cold weekend in January and absolutely delighted with the hotel. We stayed in one of the suites which although more expensive are still excellent value for money. Decor Is chic modern and the main hotel areas are spotlessly clean and inviting. Food was second to none and staff very friendly. Excellent walks straight from the door - cant wait to go back !

Stayed here for an overnight break to celebrate hubby's birthday. We are keen walkers so the location was ideal. Booked a great deal which included accommodation, a three course meal, wine and a cooked breakfast for £65 per person. The food was amazing so this turned out to be an absolute bargain. We were able to bring our two dogs with us, and they were made very welcome. Most dog friendly establishment are a bit rustic, so it was a nice change to be able to stay in such a lovely hotel with them!
Staff were friendly and accommodating, setting us up with a table in the bar so the dogs could be with us.
I have only one small criticism, the room was really hot overnight, to the point where I had to open the windows- not what you expect in January when it's minus 7 outside!
Other than that, perfect, not sure how I can beat it for hubby's 30th next year!

Thank you for your review. I am glad that you enjoyed your stay and that your dogs were able to join you. We aim to be as accommodating as possible to our four legged friends being one of the only hotels in the area who allows them to stay over, and they are welcome in the bedrooms, lounge and bar area. We also aim to not let this affect guests and therefore can offer the restaurant and breakfast menus in the bar area so guests with dogs.

I am glad to here the staff were accommodating and dealt with your requirements. I apologise that you found the room warm, unfortunately due to the old characteristics of the hotel are rooms are not able to be individually heated.

I am glad that overall you enjoyed your stay and hope you will return to The Maynard.

Kind Regards
Rebecca
