The hotel is great with impeccable service and food is to die for....They have their own wine which is surprisingly good the Rock Castle is not far away. During our stay there were two weddings both from the UK - lovely set up and we could see that they were having good time but it was arranged in a discrete way... Breakfast time was a most relaxing time ...lots of choices... Love to come back

The Kinsterna Hotel and Spa is a 4 hour drive from Kalamata airport, but don't be put off by that. The drive itself is beautiful, ( more so than from Athens apparently), although do it in daylight as the coastal road is winding!
The hotel is at the end of a rural lane, and as the electric gate opens you enter a world completely catered towards relaxation and luxury.
We had been guaranteed an upgrade to a suite for the Friday and Saturday nights, so we would be away from a wedding party, but were actually upgraded for the whole week. The suite was stunning and huge, with a coffee machine, little kitchen sink, mini bar and a bed so big I almost needed to text my partner to get his attention! Added to that was a stunning bathroom, terrace and sea view. The staff were attentive without being intrusive and you felt nothing was too much trouble.
The pool area was incredibly peaceful with waiters bringing iced water once you had settled on a lounger, and the water in the pool was salty in a mineral spring way, so your skin felt amazing after each swim. We both had treatments at the spa which were excellent.
There was a wasp presence as other reviews have said, but this was brilliantly handled by having 'smoking pots' by your table/lounger. Wasps hate smoke, therefore no wasps.
We ate in the restaurant on our first night and although the food was stunning it was our only meal there because of budget. The rest of the time we took the 15 minute drive down to Monemvasia and ate there each evening. Our 2 favourite restaurants were Trata and Scorpio. Do also go onto the citadel island across the bridge from the beach at Monemvasia. It is a real treat.
I have two niggles: there was no iron in the room and when I asked for one they said they didn't provide them but would press clothes for a charge. I spent the holiday in crumpled clothes as I didn't want to pay for someone else to iron them. Also, the coffee machine in the room used coffee 'pods'. Although we were provided with 5 complementary ones, once those were used they were 2 euros each. We bought some coffee in Monemvasia and saved a bomb!
However these are very small gripes. Our stay was wonderful and I have never felt so relaxed and recharged from a holiday. Thank you to all the staff at Kinsterna who made that possible.

Room Tip: We had a suite away from the main hotel building which was very quiet as it overlooked the vegetable gardens and the sea

Situated in the Peloponnese about 4 hours drive from Athens, the Kinsterna Hotel and Spa is well worth the journey, which in itself is spectacular in places. The hotel, a former monastery, is built in terraced layers on a steep slope overlooking the surrounding countryside and the sea. We visited for a friend's wedding which took up most of the 40 or so rooms, so the experience was not entirely typical - more like a very luxurious country house party. The food was superb, the service even better -the attentive, intuitive and super-friendly English speaking staff were a joy. The hotel boasts a great spa and beauty treatments, an infinity pool, individually designed classy bedrooms and its own organic produce gardens. It is about 4 miles from Monemvasia, a must-see ancient walled town clinging to the side of an enormous rock island. We visited in September, when the weather was perfect - 23-28 C during the day, cooling to 16-18 C in the evenings. During the height of summer it gets much hotter, but the rooms are all air-conditioned. Being in an off-season wedding group the room rate was very good value at around £175 per room night for 2 people, but even the rack rate looks good value. Couldn't fault the Kinsterna and we'll definitely be back.

Room Tip: Go for a room on the highest floor possible, to get the best view of the sea and least noise from the open-air restaurant.

Second time at this hotel, very unusual for us, and we will go again.
Rare to see such a perfection of details so naturally set.
In the hill side overlooking the sea (don't get upset of the last 2 km drive),
A wonderful monastery restored with deep love.
And you can really feel it also in the staff, caring ,very helpful and professional.
Food of the highest quality, healthy, fresh and all produced on the estate, fish and meat
provided by the best local suppliers.
Do not miss the Kinsterna rose' wine, we usually prefer red or white but this is really a nectar.
The new extension suites offer space, style, perfect lighting and superb balcony to enjoy the landscape and the stars.
If you are looking for top sea and beaches Elaphonisos beach is 45 minutes away mountain route but you will find great coves minutes from the hotel.
An oasis of peace and beauty to recharge your body and your soul.

We stayed here for several days. This is a beautiful property situated on the mountainside and beautifully landscaped. We stayed in a suite with a balcony overlooking the mountainside with nice views of L shaped pool and garden below the pool. They had a couple of goats which grazed in the garden........it was so peaceful to watch this pastoral paradise. We dined in the hotel restaurant each evening and I would have to say had the best service I have EVER had by our server Ilda.......she was so polished she sparkled! The food was incredible.........they have a very talented chef. Each morning we dined at the outdoor restaurant.......one word of advice.......there are many wasps in the morning.......be sure to ask for the "smoking device" which actually generates smoke by burning coffee!
