“Very expensive & food is average”
Reviewed June 3, 2014 via mobile

Based on the reviews here we followed the cute streets to this place and tried the food.

Positive:
- service is very good and they are very nice. This is a real family business.
- cute decoration
- portions are big

Negative:
- This restaurant is (very) expensive. Especially for a Spanish restaurant.
- The food is not very well. Not bad but rather average. We had the secreto the iberico, which was just grilled pork (in my opinion with too much fat), the focaccia from the house which also contained a huge amount of meat and tasted sweet and currish.
- They serve only home brewed wine. Not our taste. Unfortunately there was no alternative unless you buy a whole bottle.

In short: We expected a delicate, subtile and special meal, unfortunately we were disappointed. If you are a meat lover and like to eat big portions, this is the place to be.

“Fun in Pampaneira”
Reviewed May 21, 2014

Visited Pampaneira to do the walk of the three villages. We stayed in a very good local hotel and walked down to the village for dinner. We visited the Bodega Asador El Lagar. We were the only ones there for dinner, but we had a great time. We had a well reviewed tomao and pimente salad and a rustic dish of boar in almond sauce with potatoes. We were given a lovely Baily's type drink after dinner. It is a family restaurant a little off the beaten track with Mama in the kitchen and daughter front of house. Great fun and very pleasant. We went again the following night and had goat and another fab salad. wines are few, but perfectly adequate. Both nights we had a salad and a main meat course with coffee. We also drank a glass of house white and a bottle of red. The bill was €60 both nights roughle. (for two people)

“Personal.”
Reviewed April 10, 2014 via mobile

Due to the time of year we ended up being the sole customers at the restaurant. This didn't matter...the service was welcoming and friendly and the smiles gracious and accommodating when we couldn't finish our second course due to the sheer size.

As someone has already mentioned, meat is the word of the day, but the avocados and tomato were also spot on. The food isn't cheap but it is copious and of a high quality. The wine is cheap however and the personal touch of the daughter being sent dutifully to serve us with melon liqueur at the end of the meal added to the whole experience.

I can't judge whether this is any superior to other restaurants in the town but we enjoyed it and would definitely recommend it to others.

“Best in Pampaneira?”
Reviewed September 15, 2013 via mobile

If you like a lot of meat, this is the place for you! That said, the highlight for us was the fantastic tomato and roast red pepper salad, sounds simple but was really tasty due to great ingredients.
