We were part of a large group, about 100, stopping here after touring the Alhambra. The lunch and the service were excellent. For starters we had manchego cheese, eggplant smeared with honey and then fried in a tempura like batter, shrimp with same batter and iberico ham. Then a big salad that included tomato, watermelon!, red onion, carrot, and greens. The entree was delish, tournedos of pork wrapped in ham in a lovely red wine sauce. I don't recall dessert because that's not important to me. But I was most impressed with the preparation and quality of the food. As the meal was included in the price of the tour, I can't estimate the cost.

At 15 reasonably priced taxi minutes from Granada center, la Ruta del Veleta offers the best dining experience in the Granada area. By far. The hard working Pedraza brothers have dedicated more than 30 years to create a heaven of fine, creative dining in a stunning traditional Andalusian décor.

From the warm toasted garlic bread and appetizing amuses, via original starters, bold flavored main dishes and elegant desserts, to the wine list with bargains like a 20 euro Can Blau, for which we pay about 65 euro’s in comparable restaurants elsewhere in Europe, dinner at La Ruta is a delight. In our case even a “life saver”, as we found the general quality of restaurants in Granada to be… well… basically a disgrace to the rich Spanish culinary culture.

So thank you Ruta del Veleta, for 2 exceptional meals and great hospitality. We had less experiences in many Michelin starred restaurants and therefore highly recommend you to all Tripadvisor readers.

Oh, one more thing. Please reduce your portions. If I would have jumped off your succulent tenderloin with truffle jus, I most certainly would have broken my ankles…

Had lunch here as part of long excursion to the Alhambra from our cruise ship on Monday, November 12, 2012. On that day the service was excellent and food was, as well. Wonderful historic restaurant that really delivers a quality experience - - important on those day-long excursions.

We ate here as part of a cruise group tour to the Alhambra. The group was at least 100 people and the restaurant did not staff the room with enough servers, so the food experience was diminished. However the food they served was very well prepared and very delicious – possibly the best we have experienced in a large group environment (except on our cruise!). Would be a great place to cater a wedding. We would go back if we were in the area and try it by ourselves. Beautiful physical plant as well.

I've lived in Granada for three years and, whenever anyone asked for restaurant suggestions, I'd respectfully decline because there was no place that I could recommend with 100 percent confidence, until Ruta de Veleta. Their regional dishes like salmorejo (cold tomato soup, thickened with bread, spiced appropriately and emulsified with olive oil) and rabo de toro (oxtail stew) were each prepared with extra attention to quality and/or originality. The salmorejo was garnished with slices of raw cod, and the rabo de toro was the way it should be: tender meat cooked to perfection in a rich sauce and served on what seemed to be a cousin of gratin dauphinois. The wild boar was equally mastered by a cooking technique that yielded meat that could be sliced with a butter knife.
Desserts were diverse and original (and mostly made in-house). A sheep's milk dessert with chocolate had the perfect contrast of sweet, tangy, and rich, same with the Greek yogurt cheesecake.
The restaurant is a special occasion sort of place but could equally offer the opportunity for a little luxury in a light lunch.
