Literally just returned home from dinner... feel quite nauseous!

Very limited menu not very similar to that advertised on their website.

Side order of vegetables for the steak.... only a very small bowl of boiled/steamed cabbage...£3.50.

Very little salad with the steak.

Vegetarian starter, vegetarian platter to share, but no vegetarian main course on the menu.

Raita dip very very cold, straight from the back of the refrigerator?

Hummus, more chickpea than garlic... but only just!!! (this may be the main nausea causer)

A bowl of small olives... probably straight from a jar.

Both doors open to the outside allowing second hand smoke to come in.

Still bottled water was served straight in the glass... cannot be sure it was bottled water.

Orange juice didn't taste at all fresh.

Most of the platter was sent back, we paid the bill £33.00 and left as soon as possible.

There was an onion (and aubergine?) taster on the platter that was nice.

The steak was well cooked.

Overall... wish I'd taken my girlfriend to Waitrose.

We felt that the warm welcome you would expect in a place of this name was missing. All service was polite but impersonal. The crab had some pieces of shell and cartilage in it and the apology for this was cursory. The fishcakes were hugely spicy with far too much pepper and a strange brown colour inside. One of the salads didn't seem to have any dressing when the other did. However, the steak and fish were delicious, well cooked and served on nice hot plates. The fish arrived with different veg than advertised which were changed. The chips were about the best we have had - fabulous. We were served by 3 different people. It was nice to get bread at the table. Two glasses of wine, one small one large, came to £14. Dinner for 4 with 1 drink and a starter and main each came to substantially more than dinner for 6 with a drink each at one of the places very well rated by trip advisor in Cirencester.
We felt that it was somewhat the waiting room for Barnsley House and not quite getting it right.

As always, a delicious meal. We shared a seafood platter, tucked into a steak & squeezed in a pud. All perfectly cooked. It's definitely high end pub food but it's all freshly prepared, good quality & locally sourced where possible. Yum!
