“Blow the budget for a special occasion!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 25, 2013

A rare occasion where the website pictures don't do justice to the reality!!
Myself and my Mum stayed there for a joint birthday treat on the mid week spa break deal. She knew the house and gardens from before it was a hotel. The gardens are famous to those in the know about these things and are pure cottage garden fairy tale. The spa was lovely, it was intimate and luxurious with a smashing outdoor spa pool and lovely therapists. We stayed in the stable block, gorgeous room, which had its own courtyard and garden, again beautifully designed. Staff could not be faulted, efficient and friendly. I don't think one member of staff passed us without smiling and asking if we were enjoying ourselves (and you felt like they meant it too).
I really hope I can afford another trip next year. Life is made for lovely experiences like this!

Not cheap Barnsley House but for an anniversary or celebration perfect and worth every penny. We had a wonderful time - bike rides, trip to the local pub, spa treatments, even the private cinema. Fantastic rooms, great food and exceptional service. Highly recommended.

I stayed at Barnsley House as part of a wedding party and it was quite simply amazing.

I stayed in room 14 and it was sumptuous. Large and spacious with luxurious furnishings and an amazing bathroom at the top of a spiral staircase. The bed was divine!

The main house is very grand and wonderfully decorated with period furniture. It's really like stepping back in time to a grander and more refined age.

The grounds of the property are stunning and perfect for a quiet stroll or an evening cocktail.

Barnsley House provides a quintessential English experience and is a superb base to explore to Cotswolds (assuming you want to venture outside of such a gorgeous hotel).

The hotel staff were very polite, courteous and provided excellent service.

Beautiful Cotswold stone house with stunning gardens in which we could wander at will.

We had a friendly, helpful welcome, and the room in the Stableyard was well-equipped, stylish and comfortable, with a beehive-shaped mini-bar and a jacuzzi on the mezzanine level.

The design was contemporary rustic, and cows could be heard mooing from the nearby farmyard. The only thing that spoilt the decor was that there were a few bootmark mud stains on the rug in the room that clearly couldn't be removed.

The terrace at the hotel was still sunny in the early evening, and was a lovely spot to drink in the gardens and a cocktail at the same time.

We went down the round a couple of hundred yards to the Village Pub for a drink before dinner, and, whilst it was done nicely, the pub was more of a place to go for a meal rather than a drink. It was full and we were the only non-eaters there, having to perch on stools at the small bar area as the tables were all for eaters rather than drinkers.

We went back to the hotel for dinner, and the dining room was simply but elegantly decorated.

The menu looked well-crafted, and food was mostly fine, but not special. We heard 2 sets of people at 2 different tables complaining about their meal and soon discovered why; our main course took an hour to arrive, and had clearly been forgotten. There was no apology; just a remark about it taking a bit longer than expected as we were getting fresh rather than frozen pasta!

I had the popcorn and toffee ice-cream for pudding, which was a pleasant taste, but let down by having about half a dozen un-popped bits of popcorn which were unpleasant to bite into suddenly. When I complained the waiter said vaguely that it didn't sound very good, and that he would talk to the chef. He didn't mention it again however, and overall didn't seem very troubled by our less-than-stellar dining experience.

By contrast, the cooked English breakfast on the sunny terrace the next morning was possibly the best I've ever had; bacon and sausages were of incredible quality and taste, and were cooked to perfection. Croissants were also excellent.

It was a lovely place and we would love to return, but would definitely be clamouring for better restaurant service.

I was lucky enough to be taken here for our first year's wedding anniversary. The location is gorgeous, it's like a chocolate box town, with a pub and a church for having a wander. The house itself is stunning. The staff very helpful. The room we had was a two-storey apartment in a walled garden area, and it was beautiful. The bathroom was huge, the bed was very comfortable and the room service was impeccable. There is no extra charge for breakfast delivered to your room. The food is fantastic, the restaurant and bar both high-end but without any pretentiousness. Nobody is looking at you, so you can just relax and eat, drink, be merry. The cocktails are really good, too! There are plenty of spots to unwind, such as a few tree swings. Very romantic. A walk around the grounds is a delight as the gardens are gorgeous. The spa is a lovely peaceful retreat, with the minimum you need to de-stress: sauna/steam, hydro pool and relaxation room. We also sampled the treatments, there were amazing! I had the 'holistic time out' and it was fantastic! Two nights here felt like longer. It felt secluded and special and watching our wedding DVD for the first time in the hotel's huge private cinema with some bubbly is one if my most cherished memories. Loved it!

We had my mother in laws 90th Birthday at Barnsley House. A lovely afternoon tea for 16 family members. Absolutely couldn't fault the food, the service and the staff. Nothing was too much trouble and the house and gardens lovely. Would have loved to stay longer and will be back for an overnight stay soon!

This was a special occasion trip to London, then on to Barnsley House in the Cotswolds. From the moment we were greeted at the reception; everything was perfect. The weather was lovely we chose to have a light lunch in the garden, with very attentive service.
Spa treatments were wonderfully relaxing, the small but great spa, again was superb.

Our room did not disappoint either-we had a stable yard suite, with an upstairs lounge and bath, so peaceful.
The food continued with the same excellent standard, attentive service, that genuinely cared about its customers. Locally sourced food, including from there own garden; I couldn't find any fault with this hotel and would recommend it wholeheartedly .

Room Tip: The courtyard rooms were individual and amazing, but I wouldn't think any room would be disappoi...
