“If you are looking for a pet friendly hotel”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 11, 2014

This chateau accepts pets in rooms and in their restaurant. This is the reason why we chose to stay here.
Positives.. Flexible Pet policy which is very hard to find in other hotels. They should advertise this more. Slept very well, clean room, tea and coffee available, grand ambiance ( see negatives), GREAT Food. Excellent service from the FO Manager as well as the restaurant. Great location for long walks.

Improvements : Its a beautiful castle, unfortunately the room ( a King Bedded room which you pay extra for ) does not give you a grand feeling. Its seems that some soft furnishings have been modernized, such as curtains and lighting. But not the rest. It has so much potential with some investment. With regards to location, there is nothing in Harze, not even a supermarket, you need to drive for a few mins. It would have been nice if the hotel had its own coffee shop. If you want to drink or eat a snack between breakfast and dinner you need to drive to the next village.
Overall, we would go back for the pet policy (very flexible) great walks and great food.

I highly recommend this hotel!
An incredible castle in the middle of a quiet old town!! Peaceful, very clean and the staff is great!! My boyfriend and I arrived late because we drove after work... a lady in the reception was waiting for us! She was so helpful and friendly.
English and Dutch spoken at the reception. Very good Internet connection! WiFi in all rooms.
We took our dog with us and he was well considered.
I will definitively come back again!!

We were attracted to the Château de Harzé restaurant, because it looked wonderful outside and the menu board advertised 3 course menu for 28euros. This was a Saturday night and we had not booked but they did have a table available. We should have realized that paper table cloth and paper napkins as not a good sign. Being presented with laminated old menus was the second warning. Surprisingly the 28 euro menu was not available. Anyway we made our choice and awaited our food. The first course of pasta was good; one meat based the other fish. However the main course was a lump of dry meat, for me ostrich and for my wife veal. The fries were burnt and clearly cooked in oil that has not been changed in months. The prices here are not cheap and the quality of food is not worth what you pay.

WE had booked two rooms ... Its a ovely chateau with pretty grounds. Upon arrival both rooms had twin beds. Reception did some shuffling & got us all double beds - but you should specify if booking. WE got the "honeymoon" suite - probably because it had the only balcony on property. The WC was a bit funny - like an overnight train compartment facility, a bit poorly planned. But there was free wifi, beautiful views and giant rooms, with public spaces very grand - if sparse. Looks like they do a lot of weddings etc. WEre underwhelmed with the breakfast offerings at $20USD ... and staff was impatient for us to finish (ends at 9am!) ... Nice spot for exploring the region.

Room Tip: Specify if you want double beds!

The room was dark with a very small window (10 by 20 inches). The two single beds (we asked for one large bed ) was hard and of bad quality.
However the castle is very nice.
