“Lac du Disappointment”
Reviewed October 15, 2013

The view is gorgeous and the dinner was excellent (Thai sea bass and a lovely glass of white wine). Breakfast is serve yourself and I only found the coffee because another guest had to track down a server to ask if they were going to be bringing any by.

For what this room costs and for how the website portrays the place, I was shocked when I finally made it down the lonnnnnng corridor to my room, I was greeted by: old furnishings, a hideous polyester top sheet on the bed, tired cheap-looking furniture, thin towels (one of which was dirty, yuck!) and the already ugly carpet was stained with Lord knows what (by the bed no less.) Also, for the place catering to conference attendees, would it kill them to have an iron in the room? I'm sorry, but those British trouser press contraptions are useless for a ladies blouse with silk details.

Far too expensive drinks at the bar, pricey menu and I have a view of bushes and a walkway…Disappointing to say the least: oh well, at least he wifi is decent.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view of the lake.

I booked this hotel because in Brussels everything was full on those dates and I needed a place where to stay. I like Genval, already knew the hotel but never stayed there.
Reception at check-in was friendly and fast. Room was large and clean, as well as the bathroom. Sleep was quiet.
Overall there was nothing bad about this hotel but nothing exciting either. It is more suited for congresses than for a personal leisure stay. Style is more like an airport Novotel than a 5 star they pretend to be. From what I’ve seen I wouldn’t chose it for a relaxing getaway.
If looking for some flaws, I’d say:
- The rooms are located on an endless, endless corridor, so if you’re given a room at the end, you walk a lot.
- The spa has gym classes and they put music full blast. It’s located on the 4th floor. We kept hearing the thumping of the basses each time non stop for an hour (first class at 9 am, last class until 10pm): dum, dum, dum, dum, dum + yelling of the teacher. So at least avoid 3rd floor because we could hear the noise till the second one.
- I didn't enjoy the food and found it very overpriced but there are not many places around where to eat.

Room Tip: Avoid being under the spa and gym. Avoid en of long corridor.

Overlooking a beautiful lake, in the charming Genval town near Brussels, Chateau du lac is a fantastic property. The interior speaks of logical placement of the various rooms. The rooms are comfortable. The large TV works without any hiccups. I would like to compliment the reception staff for their warm smiles and the gentle manners with which they manage their guests. The best thing is the hotel shuttle which takes you to the city centre and brings you back for no extra charges at all. I had dinner only once and it consisted of a very well prepared Bass fish with Thai sauce. It was delicious. The cake with hot molten chocolate was also nice to end a good dinner. Breakfast is reasonably nice too. It was a lovely experience for me, will thank my sponsors wholeheartedly.

Room Tip: Overlooking the lake of course

I went to this hotel for attending a three days seminar. I went by train and the hotel was about 10 minutes walking distance. The hotel is located at a beautiful location, a pity that I could not enjoy the surroundings since I had to attend meetings. The check-in went very smooth, I liked the fact that my room was already ready at 9 in the morning, so I could refresh myself before the meeting started. My room was situated almost in the back of the hotel (in the new building). The room was old fashioned decorated (which was a bit disappointed for me), however was very spacious and clean. The seminar took place in one of their meeting rooms. The lunches were of very good standard, delicious food and well presented. Also the conference dinner was very enjoyable. The staff were very friendly. I enjoyed the breakfast very much, lots of choice! Since I was there on a business trip I had no time to check out the fitness and spa. In general, it was a good hotel and the meeting was very good taking care off. Since I found it a bit too expensive for the old fashioned rooms, I will probably not return for a short holiday.

Lovely location, staff were all very pleasant although a bit reluctant to serve residents a late night drink. Room was clean and big but disappointed that the towels were rather old and had holes in mine. Feel that a hotel charging a £100 per night should be able to afford good towels. Breakfast was self serve but good enough. Bar prices - £45 for 2 whisky, 2 Baileys and a glass of wine rather OTT. Would go back just for the location but they could improve the simple things and have some price control.

Room Tip: Ask for one with a view of the lake if possible

Nice location if you don't want to head into Brussels centre. Cost in taxi from airport was €70. Very scenic if weather is good- did not try the facilities as was there on business. Train was easy to Brussels and hotel provided free transfer to station in Genval.

Have stayed here nearly 10 times over the last few years and the service and accommodation standards of this hotel have been consistently 7-8 out of 10. This hotel overlooks Lake Genval and the surrounding forests and houses, giving it a peaceful and quiet location and a feeling of staying at a country hotel. The rooms are spacious and comfortable. The wifi works quite well throughout the hotel and rooms. The restaurant is modern and has a nice fireplace and lounge area, and the prices are high. It is more than 45 minutes by car or taxi to Brussels city centre so it is probably too far if you need to be in the city.
