Accessible by good sealed road, Baroon Pocket Dam has very good picnic facilities adjacent to the dam as well as vehicular access across the dam to a parking and viewing area, from which a short rain forest walk takes you to a spillway overlook.

A boat ramp is located near to the picnic grounds for on water activities and fishing.

Just before the dam is a parking area giving access to Kondaliila NP and both short and longer distance walks.

Commercial tea rooms/cafe are located above the picnic grounds that seemed to be a very popular lunch spot.

We were looking for somewhere to go to for an outing from Caloundra. You drive up the mountain to Maleny where you turn off and drive about 5 kilometres from there to a lovely picnic area with several electric BBQ’s and seating overlooking the lake and a playground for the children to play. It was very peaceful and birds of all kinds. You have to be careful of the Kookaburra’s who sit in trees above you and swoop down and grab your food from your hand. Most enjoyable spot to visit, you can also go to the other side of the lake via Montville. Murray C

Have visited Baroon Pocket dam a couple of times. We often pack a picnic & take the kids. There is a playground for the children, BBQ & toilet facilities. Nice place to relax & unwind.

This is a fabulous place for a picnic and a fish if that’s your fancy. There are numerous picnic tables and seats under cover throughout the area. The bbq’s are free and well maintained. There are decent amenities within easy walk of each picnic table. Wildlife is free to roam so don’t be surprised if you see a goanna or two looking for its lunch. Fishing is allowed so long as you have a stocked impoundment license. This is a weir and the fish within (mostly bass and silver perch we were told) are stocked by Queensland fisheries so your license goes towards restocking. There are plenty of bins so there’s no excuse for people to leave their rubbish elsewhere. This is a popular picnic area regardless of the weather so first in best dressed. My only criticism is that while there is a small play area for children it really is too small and does not really cater for the very young - especially the swings.

I was here over the weekend and saw a koala. Great to see them in the wild.
We come here all the time for picnics, it’s quite and normally not very busy which is nice.
