It was a cold, wintry Friday evening when my husband and I first went to Gypsy's Table in Montville. We had made a reservation in advance because it had only recently opened and we thought they would be busy.
As soon as we arrived the atmosphere was so warm and inviting - we couldn't get in fast enough. The open log fire was burning in the hearth and candles burned brightly on the tables. We knew straight away it was something special; it didn't look like any other restaurant that we had ever been to. The furnishings were unique and every charming nook and cranny was packed full of interesting objets d'art. It was a pleasure just to sit and look around! The waiting staff were polite, efficent and attentive.
The music created the perfect atmosphere. The menu was also unusual, interesting and varied and offered such a diverse range of choices from goat to venison (took a while to decide!) - the food was truly sensational. I had the duck and my husband had the Mediterranean Seafood. We had a wonderful soup to start with and the most incredible bread which was some type of combination rye and white which melted in your mouth. This was accompanied by a comprehensive wine menu.
We really enjoyed it, it wasn't as much 'having dinner' as savouring the whole 'dining experience!' - the ambience was an absolute delight and the food and presentation really the icing on top of the cake. We arrived fairly early but the restaurant rapidly filled up as the evening progressed. They had to turn away at least 6 couples because it was full and we actually felt sorry for people having to turn back out into the wind and foggy night so, be sure to make a reservation! Couldn't recommend highly enough - we can't wait to go back!
