“Overdesigned madness”
Reviewed May 9, 2012

This 'wanna be' boutique hotel has a nice bar and a great breakfast buffet.
So much for the positive points.

First of all the reservation did not come through (eventhough we've received a confirmation email).
The rooms are not very sound proof. The bathroom is completely open and so is the toilet.
Be sure to share a room with someone you know very well. Showering in the same room as you sleep in is ok. But if you have to take a dump there aswell something went wrong in designing and form prevailed over function.

Good for lunch and dinner (with nice weather outside on the nice terrace), but definately not recommended to stay over!

First of all, the hotel is a lovely built location, close to the city center. We booked a "Waterpret" room, wich came with a nice big bath and a steam shower. The room itself was very large and comformtable.

There were some negatives though:
- All the design is very nice, but not practical. Lighting that can only controlled by a remote, how to go to the bathroom in the night when the remote is on the other side of the room?
- Open bathroom looks very nice, but can be a bit weird when using the toilet.
- Uncomfortable chairs in the room. Looks nice, but not very nice to sit on.
- Hotel is an old building, so it can be quite noisy (outside noise, noise from other rooms)

Despite the negatives, we had a great stay in Villa Ruimzicht, a really nice relaxing weekend.

This hotel is a triumph of style over comfort, I'm sorry to say. Everything was done in a modern style which will soon look dated. It was over styled, I think very young people would be impressed but most of the guests were over 40.
The room we had was on the top floor. The bed was up some steep wooden stairs on a kind of mezzanine floor in the attic space. On the ground floor was a large bathroom and 2 hard office waiting room chairs in front of a large TV with home theatre system.
The shower was excellent, very powerful. But there was no privacy, when you were in the shower or wc the other person can see you which is a little odd. Having got out of the shower water had leaked across the floor and when I went to get a hairdryer, the drawer was full of what appeared to be crunched up Pringles not cleaned out of the drawer! The towels were thin, small and rough. Rather than stupid remote control lights or a tap which took endless fidding to get on/off due to being an impractical modern design, or a dangly silver ornament, I would have preferred soft large towels! That would have been luxury. Or even soft wc paper! I have been to budget hotels with much nicer toilet paper and towels.
The bed wasn't great either. It was a king size but very bouncy, so when my partner turned over I woke up, and vice versa. I'm sure most people would prefer 2 beds out together for extra space and comfort. The sheet was not soft but the pillowcase and duvet cover were a different material and very soft.
The room had 2 tiny windows, really very small, in the roof, so there was no light in the day and too much light in the early morning. A curtain on the windows would have helped.
The hotel is difficult to reach, on a Sunday there is only one bus per hour. We asked for a taxi and the receptionist called for us, but they said it would be half hour wait.
By far the worst thing about the room was trying to go down the stairs in the night for the toilet in the dark. Really very scary and dangerous!!
The breakfast was the best thing about our stay here. Very extensive and tasty.

Room Tip: go elsewhere

We've had a nice weekend in july, even though the weather was pretty Dutch (if you know what I mean). We were warmly welcomed and guided to our simple (less is more) but nice and big room.

In the evening we had some drinks at the veranda and had made a dinnerreservation. The amuses were served at the veranda. We both took a 3-course surprise dinner (one meat, one fish) with accompanying wines. The food was very good, and the wines as well. We even got a Dutch wine! After dinner we again took coffee at the veranda. Because of the cold we've got some nice and warm blankets. Both the dinnerroom and the veranda were nicely and tastefully decorated.

Breakfast at the morning was again very fine and tastefull. Many choices and freshly baked eggs. Breakfastroom was very nicely decorated.

Personel was very friendly, all over the hotel and restaurant.

We'ver really enjoined this hotel.

Room Tip: Check out the hotel website, they have a hotel map with 3d vision.

hotel, in a nice renovated building, excellent location , with good design-rooms, the floors could still be from wood, so a bit noisy, dinner and breakfast were very good and staff is very friendly

historic building with front cascade, originally was Abbey Church in nineteenth century and then turned to school in twentieth century as my host told me.
totally modern interior. Open plan shower room had arty grey timber veneer floor-board. LED lights ,The disco lights were difficult to operate by a remote control.
A grand old house set in beautiful garden with impressive trees
the walls and floor are made of wood or gypsum simply isn't fit in hotels. I don't want to hear my neighbor room walking and talking

We were looking forward to our stay in this hotel. But man, are we disappointed!!! On the day of our arrival we couldn't check in because they were late with check out of the previous guests and cleaning the room. We didn't mind, so we went our way and when we came back in the evening and parked our car opposite of the hotel we heard loud music. We laughed to each other and joked "yes, thats in the hotel". But to our surprise, it was in the hotel. There was a party going on. The noise was terrible!!!! But the guy at the frontdesk said, no shouted (otherwise we couldn't hear him) that it wouldn't be a problem for us; it would be quiet in our room. Well let me tell you, we were literally able to hear every hitsong they played (from Chic to Luv to Queen).
The party lasted untill 00.45... If we had known that they had a party going on, we wouldn't have come there and would have postponed our trip or booked another hotel.. We complained the next day and all they said was: "yes, we had complaints from other guests, apparently the music was too loud, sorry". And that was it... I think that this is very poor service. They should have told us when we booked. We would have looked for another place to stay. I don't recommend this place for stays in weekends, because it seems that they have a lot of these partys booked.
