We have just come back from a 4 night stay at the Carbis Bay Hotel....
On reading some of TripAdvisor reviews i must say that i was not looking forward to the stay....( some had said they were not best pleased, and the staff were not good, and their kids had been told off?) (piling cushions up !) ....i dont think that is GOOD BEHAVIOR!
Anyway, we did have a fantastic time, we were greeted , and shown to our room, A Bay with a fantastic View, ( was VERY cold outside ,windy and the windows were letting in the chill) was ok next day when the wind dropped...
The meals and decor, and the staff were amazing, very friendly... wow, wonderful food! everything was a delight... ,a lovely atmosphere, thanks Carbis Bay Hotel......
I feel were all different, and maybe some children are not very well behaved, so maybe if we check our kids abit more, we would not have to blame the hotel...... doing a grand job....

We stayed at this hotel in August and it wasn't quite what we expected. The location is great as Carbis Bay is so beautiful. The one thing they dont tell you is that the railway runs directly behind the hotel. Something to be aware of if in case you get a room at the back of the hotel.

We booked a superior room and paid extra for a balcony. The room itself was ok, if a little small. We wish we hadn't bothered paying extra for a balcony though as it was soooo small you could only just stand on it. In fact it was more of a ledge than a balcony. There was no way you could get a chair on it.
The cleaners had just left the room but we had to ask them back as the bath and sink were still dirty. Also, the bathroom smelt of damp as if the window had never been opened.

The food was average. We felt the evening meal was overpriced and only ate at the hotel once. There are much better restaurants in St Ives. We recommend the St Andrews Street Bistro.

The staff were ok. Reception staff seemed disinterested and when we arrived both reception staff and portering staff just stood blankley at us as we strugled in with our bags and cases. Nobody offered to help. There is no lift at the hotel.

Without a doubt the best thing about the hotel is the location. The beach is stunningly beautiful. The hotel plays on this fact though and knows people will go there just for the location. For the high prices they charge they need to make more of an effort.

Next time we're going to try the Boskerris Hotel, also in Carbis Bay.

I have just returned from a holiday at the Carbis Bay Hotel, in glorious Cornwall, and can honestly say that the location is the obvious reason it sells its self so well. As you drive down the hill to the bay the beautiful cove with golden sand and blue sea is breathtaking.

However the Hotel is resting on its laurels a little because of the location. My experience was not a totally relaxing one. Our room was probably the smallest in the hotel, (101), fine for one or two nights, for two people, but not for seven. And located over the main entrance so we were woken each morning in the early hours by delivery vans or guests making an early getaway. The bathroom was tiny with a miss matched suite, and a very basic shower. We asked to be moved within ten minutes of arriving, and were told the Manager was out, but they were sure we could move tomorrow, which became the next day and the next day. We never were moved! So I recommend persistence in such matters. The overseas guests were not too shy to insist on being given attention to their needs, and rightly so. I did make a point of looking at other rooms and suites in the hotel and most of them were of a far superior standard to ours, so please don't be put off by our experience room wise. Next time I would book a sea view with a balcony

Some reception staff are rude and disinterested in Guests comfort, one lady Receptionist in particular ,makes one feels as if they are trespassing in her own home!! I agree with another review made that there does not seem to be anyone in charge of the Restaurant, or indeed the Hotel at times. One barman was so rude we had to complain about him then and there, we were told he was new!

I feel that they need to invest in staff training, and client services training, to make the very most of what could be a superb holiday experience. After all holidays in England are far from cheap and the weather always unpredictable, so there has to be a very good reason for people to repeat their holiday here, however beautiful the location.

On the plus side, the food was excellent, yes the service could be slow, but when the meals arrived they were ALWAYS hot and fresh, never reheated. Breakfast was a joy, and the cream teas wonderful. The dinner menu changed each evening and always included a veggie option. The pool area is very nice, and sheltered from any wind. The pool was extremely well maintained, as are the gardens. The private beach is fabulous, clean and safe, no dogs are permitted on it until October. A wonderful, safe place for children to play.

The walk along the coast line from the hotel to St Ives takes about twenty minutes, and is very enjoyable. You can take the train from behind the hotel, just one stop. So you have the best of both worlds, peaceful Carbis Bay, or lively St Ives, without ever having to get into your car!

The age groups were very mixed at the time I was there, and children were made very welcome, always a plus.

I would go back to the hotel, and I hope when I do, that the somewhat Faulty Towers approach many of the staff adopted has changed for the better. It might be funny to watch, but frustrating to experience when trying to relax on holiday.

We stayed here for 3 nights in August. We were in superior room with sea view - view was best thing about the room! We paid 250 a night - a couple with 1 baby and 1 two yr ols (Charged 15 a night for the child who was on one of the 2 beds permantly in the room so couldn't quite work that out!!) The room was tiredwith ripped bed covers, a very old bed, cardboard stuck in the windows to stop rattlling etc. We also had room service and every night they either got order wrong or things not available. On the last morning after sitting in breakfast for ages, they realised they had forgotten/lost our order and the 'chef had turned everything off' so we basically got reheated food - yuk. The service was not great. One lady on reception was so rude and my husband rarley complains but was shocked by her attitude. Location is wonderful but felt very let down

Was really looking forward to staying at this hotel, particularly after reading some of the reviews, but can only say was disappointed. I booked a superior room, which was ok but certainly not my definition of superior,it was clean but small, had lovely sea view though, but no balcony as expected.
Where this hotel falls down is the attention to detail, eg, old towels, 3 light bulbs not working, no loo roll in bathroom, seems trivial now but at the time was frustrating.
The food in the resturant was on the whole excellent, only a couple of iffy meals, but the service was like something out of Fawlty Towers, very, very slow, up to 2 hours to have dinner,(even when the resturant was quiet) Tables left dirty, full of used plates, this was particularly frustrating when you had booked to go for dinner at a specific time, but there was no table available, not because they were still full of early diners but because no one had cleared the tables. No one appeared to be in charge in the resturant and for me this would have made a huge difference, there appeared to be either a lack of staff or no one wanted to clear up, either way dining with dirty plates and tables around you is unacceptable.
This hotel truely could be fantastic, but needs to pull it's socks up and move with the times, most visitors don't want the earth, but like ourselves just, clean accommadation, staff who know what they are doing, and value for money. I feel this was over priced for the service /accommadation provided.
