“Truly awful”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 14, 2013

Having stayed at this hotel many times over a long period we were shocked at our last and sad to say final visit to this hotel. Being acquired by the Aurora group has been a disaster, the change of menu in particular. Having several different types of steak on the menu immediately limits choice. Prior to the change of menu we always looked forward to having something different which we would not necessarily cook at home. On the night in question I really struggled to find something on the menu I wanted to eat.
The restaurant on our one night stay was a disgrace. Almost every diner complained that evening about the very poor and slow service. We waited over an hour for our main course and we were not alone. Apparently there was " a problem with the grill ". When the main course did finally arrive the steak was frazzled and everything else overcooked too. We expressed our disappointment about the menu the following morning when checking out but were told the new menu was " here to stay ". After 10 years we said a final goodbye.
Perhaps the CEO doesn't realise guests don't just book the hotel for it's location but the whole package, including the menu.
We have now found an alternative venue with a wonderful menu - no steak or grill options - just an innovative menu with food you actually want to eat.

We arrived just as they were finishing serving breakfast at 9.30. However they went out of their way to provide us with a meal. We were not rushed, and still had the excellent service as the staying guests. We must thank the lovely member of staff, called Woijcek (please excuse spelling), who was fantastic, and nothing was too much trouble for him. We hope that the managers or owners read this, and thank him on our behalf.

Room Tip: Did not stay there

My fiancé booked us 3 nights in the luxury lodges here. We stayed in The Saddle and it was truly amazing.

Upon arriving we were walked to our lodge and shown around by a member of staff. We then went up to the bar for our complimentary arrival drink. Once back at the lodge we had a look around to see exactly what we had and we were not disappointed. If we could have picked this lodge up and taken it home we would have done so!

We ate lunch in Poets Bar which was lovely, and had desert one night in the Boars Bar (after the barman recommended what to have, again not disappointed).

All in all, a great stay and we look forward to returning.

A semi regular visit for us, till last time. Service was patchy, combine that and the ridiculously increased food prices made us get up and leave. When I say "patchy" I mean it was hard to find someone to assist, and one guy only stopped when it was obvious we'd spotted him and he couldn't escape without clearly being seen to ignore us. Not impressive. Another waiter was fine in his manner, but this wasn't enough to get us to remain.

Yet another example of a great place being taken over and its character changed hugely. Trying to go upmarket, chiefly by shifting prices so high they are just stupid.

And a formerly excellent light lunch menu now a thing of the past.

One member of staff was apologetic, which wasn't enough to change our huge disappointment. Previously the standard of food presented was high, the prices maybe a little high - but now it's swung to levels likely to kill off its previous popularity.

Could be they're aiming for a different demographic, what with a very expensive timeshare across the bridge, but it won't include us from now on. We don't mind paying a decent price for a decent meal, but this has gone too far for us. We're two sixty-ish adults, with little time for overpricing policies in places that seek to shed a previous clientele - and that's exactly what this looks like to us.

My husband and I stayed here for one night and wish we had stayed longer. The reception staff were friendly and helpful .
The bedroom was comfortable and clean with complementary tea coffee and shortbread.
The views while having dinner in the hotel were stunning . The waiting staff were very attentive (especially David ) .Although the restaurant was busy we were not rushed throughout the meal , getting plenty time in between courses and was very relaxing.Fantastic quality of food and not over priced .
Breakfast was Buffett style with more than ample to choose from.
We will certainly return however it will be for more than one night !!

stayed on night on our way home from Arran in a very comfortable room. We had a fabulous evening 3 course meal in the excellent restaurant overlooking the River Tay . My wife sent complements to the chef for the best tartlet she has ever tasted. The following morning breakfast was equally delicious and again the waiting staff were first class without being obtrusive.

We stayed overnight at the Kenmore Hotel as part of a return visit. The hotel is located in the heart of the quiet, picturesque and tiny Kenmore village. The rear of the hotel has stunning views of the River Tay, the 18th century Kenmore bridge and to the attractive hills beyond. The hotel is a mixture of old fashioned public rooms and bar and an ultra modern, glass walled grill restaurant.

We were warmly welcomed at reception and were well looked after during our stay by manager Ross McEwen and his staff. We stayed in room 14 on the second floor which has beautiful views to the rear of the hotel. It is a good sized room with a large comfortable bed. The sheets were crisp and fresh and the furniture was old fashioned and generous. There was also an old fashioned TV, coffee making facilities and we enjoyed complimentary seasonal fruit and bottled water. Although the room was ideal for our stay and very comfortable the decor was in need of updating. The bathroom was sizeable with an in bath shower which suffered from changing water pressure.

Before dinner we relaxed on the terrace outside the Boars Head bar and enjoyed a refreshment in the sunshine overlooking the very attractive River Tay which was abundant with wildlife. We ate in the Grill restaurant and enjoyed the food which was well cooked and efficiently served by the friendly young waiting staff. There is an interesting wine list with several wines served by the glass. You can also enjoy these wines in the hotel bars alongside a good selection of beers and whiskies. There is much evidence of Dewars who's Aberfeldy distillery and excellent visitor centre is just a few miles away.

In the morning we took breakfast in the Grill restaurant which was buffet style. The food was well prepared and hot although there was a limited choice of self service dishes including hot food, fruits and pastries. There was plenty of hot toast, tea and coffee available.

Overall Kenmore is a great but quirky hotel and you will be guaranteed a warm welcome. It has recently been acquired by the Aurora group and would benefit from sympathetic refurbishment of the bedrooms and public areas to bring out the character of what could easily be a four star destination hotel in the heart of Scotland.

Room Tip: Rooms to the rear of the hotel have views of the River Tay. Rooms vary in size so ask for one of the...
