Owner description: The Scottish Crannog Centre is a 5 star, authentic reconstruction of an early Iron Age loch-dwelling which was built by the Scottish Trust for Underwater Archaeology. We also have a Gold award for environmental responsibility.Take a look at some of our underwater discoveries in the exhibition; walk over water into the Iron Age on your unique crannog tour, and get hands-on with ancient crafts and technologies. You can even hire a dugout canoe to paddle into prehistory (weather permitting). Special events run regularly and feature artists, musicians, skilled craft workers and other specialists who, together with our own team of Iron Age guides, actively bring the past to life for adults and children alike from ages 4 +. Also at our Centre, why not browse in our gift shop offering an excellent selection of books, crafts, and related items, or enjoy light refreshments from our snackbar.

A must see in the area. The docents give a wonderful presentation of the living arrangement and tools used by the residents of these unique island structures.

“Very interesting!”
Reviewed July 18, 2013 via mobile

Coming from a place steeped in prehistoric history we were interested to learn what the Scottish Crannog Centre had to offer which might be different from the usual. We were just delighted to be given a very informative guide and talk within the Crannog, the atmosphere was relaxed and our group was encouraged to participate and ask questions throughout. We even had a visit from a duck who wandered in to sit on her nest!

Outside the Crannog there are interactive areas where our guide showed us how objects such as quern stones and laithes were used, he even managed to make a tiny fire for us!
We really enjoyed our afternoon here and would highly recommend a visit to anyone. Thank you!

“Excellent attraction”
Reviewed July 16, 2013

This was a very well put together tour-time in the exhibition, the crannog, and then the demonstration of ancient skills. The guide, Dirk, was clearly enthusiastic about the topic and had a lot of background knowledge. The price for the quality of the tour was also very reasonable. I would definitely recommend this.

“Loch Tay at it's finest”
Reviewed July 16, 2013

Gorgeous day in the sun and arrived into this lovely peaceful area of Scotland. The Crannog centre has to be a hidden gem well worth seeing. The location is just beautiful and to have a guided tour of the Crannog from our knowledgeable and amusing guide was lovely, John brought the place and history to life. Will certainly be recommending this to our friends and family.
