“Hollywood house, just say no!”
Reviewed April 3, 2012

This was our 4th visit to bembridge iow and we had been looking forward to it. We booked it for my husbands birthday and had upgraded to a Royale expecting the same level of luxury as the last time we stayed. how wrong we were.We had difficulty entering as the key given is for the inner door not the outer and the doors are so close together it is hard to keep them both open long enough to get your case through. A grubby beigish carpet greeted us. the lamp had two of its arms broken off, wallpaper peeling from walls great lumps of filler not sanded and painted over added to the general feeling of decay.

The welcome pack has dwindled to two mini bottles of wine, (no glasses in our room, to swig or not to swig? that is the question)

The blind was broken and would slowly unravel as we watched (perhaps the special feature?) not that we had it open much as our window was outside the path everyone else used to walk along still it made a change from the view of a large hedge 6 feet from the window.

The bathroom was as bad as there were cracked tiles, on that looked as if it was about to fall off the wall and screws sticking out of the shower screen. The bath panel was loose and not fitted properly. still the toiletries were white company which was nice.

The best part we did not find out until bedtime as our room was next to the boiler (room 703)
so we had the sound of it starting up and gurgling and whooshing all night. It made a change from hearing every footstep and toilet flush from the room above.

All in all the standard room we had last time was better quality and more luxurious.

On complaining to the duty manager we were told that the general manager was on leave and would look into things and contact us that was nearly 2 months ago. I was holding off on my review until then but not having heard from them have gone ahead and written it.

On a brighter note the food was fantastic and seconds readily available (as the fishcake starter was so nice we had it twice!)

The waiting staff were a joy friendly always smiling even though rushed off their feet.

The bar staff also fab and even remembered we had told them it was my husbands birthday 2 days before and wished him happy birthday on the day. a credit to the company.

Shame about the room. We paid for luxury and received a room worse than ours at home
beware the brochure as well as the royale rooms shown are actually the royale suites at an even larger supplement. they do not tell you this on the page.

Room Tip: Stay away from Hollywood house.

I am pleased to state that I have been in touch with the reviewer and we were finally able to resolve the situation and the compensation offered for the disappointment has been accepted. It is also good to see that the rest of the experience was thoroughly enjoyed and a return visit is certainly not out of the question. Regards Phil

The Bembridge Coast surpassed our high expectations of the weekend 16th - 19th March on all fronts.

We would like to say a special thank you to Tom, Chris, Sophie, Lauren and Charlie on the entertainment team for just being great and always there to get us involved and having real fun, also to Bart and Nina for looking after us so very well in the restaurant.

We really enjoyed the high standard of catering and whole ambience of the hotel itself.

We look forward very much to our next visit to the Bembridge Coast Hotel and hope nothing changes drastically in that time as they seem to have everything working just as it should!

Room Tip: Solent views are really great

Stayed again at Bembridge this time in a Royale room for 50's weekend. Quality of food was up to usual excellent standards & the restaurant staff couldn't do enough to help.... The number of bar staff during the evenings probably needs to be increased but this is only a minor gripe.
It was good to see that Warners have returned to the former policy of booking quality acts for all 3 evenings rather than relying on the in-house entertainment team to put on a show.
Those shows have been good, but it looked like penny pinching.
Commendation to the grounds staff as the landscaped areas were kept in immaculate condition.
Car parking can be a bit of a problem as there aren't really enough spaces when the hotel is full but sensible on-road parking is tolerated.

Room Tip: Book early to make sure you get a room with a sea view........it's worth paying the extra few qu...

As a couple or in a group Lovely Place overlooking the sea (well our room was). Our 2nd time here andf as always, food excellent and well catered for all, resturant couldn't be more pleasant. We was in a group of 10 so it didn't matter about entertainment, but what was on was ok.
Lovely setting, walks along the beach lovely and a couple of good pubs either side of the Hotel, The Crab and Anchor being one.

Just back from a 4 night stay.
We booked a Royale room for the extra space and big bed and were put into room 705 in the Hollywood lodge. No sea view but lovely and quiet. This is a lovely green tiled building about 100 yds from the main hotel.
We were a bit disappointed to find the bed was only a standard double and the room a bit on the small side.
We had a whinge to the lovely staff at the reception who asked if we would like the room next door 706, which was; (very fortunately), empty.
The room was ENORMOUS with a MASSIVE 6' sleigh bed, large flat panel TV (freeview) and a lovely bathroom.
Hang on, gripe No2.
No bath. What to do? Whinge to reception, and they let us use the bathroom in 705 for two days until the next occupants arrived. Yes, I had gotten out of the bath by then. But only just!
Brilliant helpful staff (they work their socks off), lots to do, (quizzes, archery, air rifles, boules, bowls, (lots and lots of bowlers), evening entertainment and cabaret, pool, gym sauna, solarium, talks, walks, magic tricks, and one of the best and funniest falconry displays ever!) Food fantastic! Starve yourself for a week before you go. Half board, but after breakfast you won't need to eat 'till the following day. Don't worry dear reader, I bravely struggled with the full three course dinner in the evening.
Adults only. And when I say adult, I mean if you are under 60, you will feel like a teenager again.

We have been to a number of Warners venues and found all of the very good in their own way, but I must say, that this one is the best so far..... It is large and unlike other Warners has never been a holiday camp and it shows.... Apparently £8 million has been spent on it in the last ten years and you can see why....The grounds are beautiful and well cared for and sweep down to the Solent, a large part of the hotel is relatively new and our room was very comfortable and well appointed, with the largest bed I have ever seen..... I'm sure you could have landed a helicopter on it!.. It was extremely comfortable though!... I always find that the food at Warners is excellent.... Great variety, well cooked and presented and loads of it...The entertainment was in full swing the whole time, but no pressure on individuals to join in and you could get out of the way easily.... One little niggle I thought the bar prices were a bit steep.... But all in all a great place for a short break.
