“Is this the worse food in Scotland ?”
Reviewed July 4, 2012

Attended a wedding here and was shocked how bad it was. Not enough seats available for the guests to sit on in the bar area, and the food was beyond belief bad. The top table must have had difference meals to us as there were inedible and hardly touched. What food did arrive was lukewarm to cold and not fit for human consumption.

I would NEVER go back here and it must qualify for the worst food in Scotland ! You have been warned.

Gorgeous rooms, very comfortable bed. Nice touch with heated bathroom floor. Very welcoming staff.

Couple of small snagging points like the fact the shower needed sealed as it flooded the place if u were in too longand the grout was needing cleaned. Bathroom door was needing adjusted as didn't close and if it did u needed someone to push it from other side to get out and noise was quite loud coming from private area when initially trying to get to sleep. None of these things were major but worth the mentioning but having said that I would still stay again

On Saturday 7th April, Glenskirlie helped us celebrate our perfect wedding day! I have so much to say about Glenskirlie, so please bear with me through this long review!!

A wedding in a castle wasn’t really what we wanted so had never really thought of Glenskirlie as a possible venue. However, I ended up on the website and realised that Glenskirlie has two venues, a Castle and a House!!!

Colin Maceloney showed us round both the House and the Castle. Both venues are STUNNING and attention to detail can be seen throughout. The House is decorated in a modern fashion but still has a very vintage and romantic feel. The gardens are wonderfully green and perfect for pictures. The main hall is beautiful with twinkling lights on the ceiling, like stars! As the House doesn’t have any bedrooms, there is a small room for the bride and her attendants to use. It has a private toilet, a changing area and a mirrored table for all the girlie make up bits to allow us to freshen up. We also kept gifts and cards in here.

The Castle is just as beautiful though with a more modern edgy feel. The main reception hall is pretty much the same as the House but a little smaller. The gardens are very different though, beautifully manicured shrubs in a lovely courtyard – gorgeous for pictures.

Colin Macloney was incredibly polite and charming (unlike many other wedding co-ordinators from other venues who were rude and patronising!!) Though in all fairness, Colin’s job was pretty easy – the venues speak for themselves!!!

At the end of the viewing we were taken to the Castle bedrooms!!! All double rooms are individually and exceptionally decorated. Then the bridal suites – they are beyond anything I have ever seen before! The bridal suites are out of this world, particularly the sunken Jacuzzi bath – amazing!! Pictures really do them no justice!

In the end, we chose the House venue as it matched our personal taste and style more. We celebrated the most wonderful day of our lives. Julie Flemming was on duty on our wedding day and she was fantastic!!! She kept us in order and informed me of absolutely everything I needed to know about. She showed genuine excitement and happiness for us both. The whole day went smoothly and the food was delicious!!! We had chosen to have the outdoor BBQ (along with outdoor heated canopy – highly recommended!!!!!) which was superb and all our guests thought it was a great idea. The quality of the food was excellent!

I do have a few of (VERY MINOR) suggestions to make:
1) I felt I was constantly bombarding the wedding team with email questions, to the point where I felt a little embarrassed. Glenskirlie should provide couples with an information pack on booking with all the information that the couple may require. The team however always responded very quickly to all of my queries.
2) We were unable to book a meal tasting as we were unable to make the available dates. Had we had a tasting we may have chosen a slightly different meal option (although the food was still great quality!!) I also think a tasting for the couple should be included in the booking (or a free meal after the wedding!!??).
3) The bridal suites – there are two suites, one is black and one is white (one for the House couple and one for the Castle couple). My personal preference was the white room and I asked several times what room we had been allocated during planning. We weren’t informed of this until half way through our wedding day (luckily I did get the white room!). Glenskirlie should decide who gets what room prior to the wedding day so there is no disappointment on the day itself! If both couples want the same room, then the couple who booked first should get preference. Both rooms are just as amazing as each other so it doesn't really matter, but would be nice to know what to expect.

Glenskirlie is by no means a cheap venue. However you do get what you pay for; exceptional service and friendly staff, gorgeous surroundings, quality food and to top it all off the most amazing bridal suite to end your perfect wedding day! The cost was far more than what our original budget allowed, however by keeping all our other costs down we were able to have our dream wedding. Glenskirlie is very luxurious and of a very high standard but is most definitely not snobby or pretentious. We were made to feel welcome in a relaxed and beautiful atmosphere.

I recommend this venue to ‘newly weds to be’ as it really is PERFECT. Glenskirlie is also great for a romantic or special occasion meal or for a romantic weekend away. It’s worth every penny!

Thank you to all at Glenskirlie for helping to make our day so special!

Debbie & Alistair

Room Tip: All rooms are amazing, the bridal suites are expensive but worth it if you want a treat!!

From the minute the brochure box arrived at my door I just knew I wanted to have the most amazing day of my life at the Glenskirlie.
We married in may 2011 at the castle and it was just perfect from the first meeting with Lynne until we checked out as mr and mrs.
We had guests travelling from north of Scotland to the south of England and everyone of them still talk about our wedding and the venue, Our photos are also out of this world. I felt like a princess that day and I am glad we chose the Glenskirlie, I would highly recommend it and also their BBQ for night time is a big winner. I stil love to hear all the good memories from our guests who shared our day with us and that is all thanks to the team at the Glenskirlie for their hard work, nothing was too much trouble, experts in what they do and i will look forward to our anniversary meal this year. Thank you once again, Xxx

One place not to miss! A 21st century build with an interior reflecting the the history of the past and providing the needs of the present. A superbly presented meal for around 80 guests rounded of with a good going ceilidh.
Stayed overnight, extremely comfortable room. Breakfast in the morning was cooked to order, & excellent.
Breakfast room converts to a marriage room cleverly designed to suit a wide variety of backgrounds.
As a disabled person I managed my small scooter in the lift with my wife's assistance but would question accommodating a larger wheelchair /helper?
Space in en-suite limited , particularly the toilet!
Overall

Room Tip: If disabled, check when booking for lift access and ensuite size.

Following a family day out at the Falkirk Wheel, we had heard of Glenskirlie and decided to call, having been advised that from 5.30pm the Restaurant Grill was open. We were a party of Mum, Dad, Grannie, Grandad, 1 child @20months, 1child @1 month.
Welcomed on arrival and the place couldn't have been more accommodating. Staff were excellent and plentiful, food was good, surroundings were excellent. With babies on board we were only looking for an 'early tea' and not an evening dinner, so found the 2 courses for £12.95 option attractive. Mum and Dad were enjoying themselves so much they went on to have sweets and coffee. You can certainly pay more here but given what we experienced I would expect patrons to be well satisfied with whatever option is chosen. Well placed just off the M80 motorway, I can only add that this will now become our family meeting place of choice, such was the impression made.
