Owner description: Twycross Zoo is renowned as a specialist primate zoo and has a wide variety of monkeys and apes including the UK's only group of bonobos. We have breeding groups of many endangered primate species so we often have babies and toddlers playing around in our orang utan and bonobo groups, and in many of our monkey groups. Set in more than 80-acres, we have around 900 animals of more than 160 species to see, including many native species in the Zoo's Nature Reserve. You can walk with our ring-tailed lemurs in their new walk-through enclosure; see our giant tortoises sunbathing in their new grass area and watch our penguins take their daily walk. Our keepers present regular talks and feeds where you can learn a bit more about some of our animals such as the chimpanzees, penguins and meerkats. Twycross Zoo's award winning Education Department offers a variety of discovery opportunities for many different types of groups and parties. The Zoo holds the Learning Outside the Classroom Quality Badge, all sessions are curriculum linked and all are designed to best engage all age groups.

“Great, but small zoo”
Reviewed February 4, 2013

It's a good place to visit and have fun ... zoo is small, but great experience ... only we were disappointment that in the promotion they have a giraffe, but in reality there are not there ... zoo now extends some pavilions, so may offer more animals. Food is good for a reasonable prices.

“Great day out - but take wellies!!”
Reviewed February 3, 2013

Had a lovely day out here with our two children aged 5 & 2
The zoo is well kept but after all the wet weather the paths are very muddy best to take wellies at this time of year. Particularly liked the Asian themed walk through for the elephants some really effort gone into making it more of an 'experience'
Took a Punic so can't comment on the food but shop was nice little bits for the kids and silly as it sounds they particularly liked the ants in the toilets !!! Overall a nice day out :-)

“Great place to take the kids even in winter but would suggest tarmac on the pathways and reducing the cost in the winter”
Reviewed February 3, 2013 via mobile

Great impromptu day out with my family including my 3 year old son. Was expecting it to be cold but was disappointed at how muddy the Pathways were which was unexpected at the price. Will definitely come back when the lions and tigers are in their new enclosure. Would be good if the cost was reduced in winter months though !

“Good for half a day out.”
Reviewed February 2, 2013 via mobile

Been waiting for a sunny winters day to go with my family and well worth waiting. One piece of advice, take appropriate outdoor footwear as the paths are muddy but perfectly accessible with a pushchair (disregard other comments where some people have turned around!). The zoo has always been mostly about the monkeys and still is, if you're after a comprehensive collection of animals then I do suggest visiting elsewhere. My son is 17 months old and seemed to enjoy it as did the 11year old girl we also brought along. Coffee and cakes in the cafe in the center of the grounds were superb, not overly expensive and clean. Looking forward to our return trip.

“Good day out”
Reviewed January 31, 2013

Great For Kids, plenty to do to keep them occupied all day and many different species of monkeys. Lots of shade should you need it but not to many places to keep dry in the rain. Pushchair and Wheelchair hire available. Food ok not great.
