Owner description: Twycross Zoo is renowned as a specialist primate zoo and has a wide variety of monkeys and apes including the UK's only group of bonobos. We have breeding groups of many endangered primate species so we often have babies and toddlers playing around in our orang utan and bonobo groups, and in many of our monkey groups. Set in more than 80-acres, we have around 900 animals of more than 160 species to see, including many native species in the Zoo's Nature Reserve. You can walk with our ring-tailed lemurs in their new walk-through enclosure; see our giant tortoises sunbathing in their new grass area and watch our penguins take their daily walk. Our keepers present regular talks and feeds where you can learn a bit more about some of our animals such as the chimpanzees, penguins and meerkats. Twycross Zoo's award winning Education Department offers a variety of discovery opportunities for many different types of groups and parties. The Zoo holds the Learning Outside the Classroom Quality Badge, all sessions are curriculum linked and all are designed to best engage all age groups.

“Great place to take the kids even in winter but would suggest tarmac on the pathways and reducing the cost in the winter”

Great impromptu day out with my family including my 3 year old son. Was expecting it to be cold but was disappointed at how muddy the Pathways were which was unexpected at the price. Will definitely come back when the lions and tigers are in their new enclosure. Would be good if the cost was reduced in winter months though !

“Good for half a day out.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 2, 2013 via mobile

Been waiting for a sunny winters day to go with my family and well worth waiting. One piece of advice, take appropriate outdoor footwear as the paths are muddy but perfectly accessible with a pushchair (disregard other comments where some people have turned around!). The zoo has always been mostly about the monkeys and still is, if you're after a comprehensive collection of animals then I do suggest visiting elsewhere. My son is 17 months old and seemed to enjoy it as did the 11year old girl we also brought along. Coffee and cakes in the cafe in the center of the grounds were superb, not overly expensive and clean. Looking forward to our return trip.

“Good day out”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 31, 2013

Great For Kids, plenty to do to keep them occupied all day and many different species of monkeys. Lots of shade should you need it but not to many places to keep dry in the rain. Pushchair and Wheelchair hire available. Food ok not great.

“Excellent small zoo”

Great for the youngsters. Not too big and easy walking around the exhibits. Main animals of interest are the primates.

“A great day out”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 23, 2013

After the Christmas period I took my children out for fresh air and entertainment and thee was no better place than Twycross Zoo. Although the weather was terrible rained most of the day it didnt spoil our fun. The small train operated although we were the only one on it and everyone was so friendly and helpful even though it was quite and as I said raining. The zoo as a good selecton of animals although the main attraction is the monkeys etc. frican section was marvellous, walked around it and if the weather had been good you could have imagined yourself there. The new cafe with the viewing window for the snow leopards was marvellous. A good day out and good value for money a real tribute to the lady that started it.
