“Nice Place to Stay”
Reviewed November 4, 2010

My husband and i stayed at Alona tropical resort for 2n/3d last Oct. 2010. The layout of the place is very nice, there are lots of trees. The pool is very nice too. The staff were friendly and approachable. The restaurant is right next to the beach which we really like, and their menu was good. The bedroom was nice with AC and really HOT and cold shower, the only thing we didn't like was the curtains cuz it was see through. But overall we had a great time and experience at Alona Tropical resort.

we booked off season so we got 10% off. My family (we are 4) got the suite at Php4,950.00 and truly had a wonderful time...powdery white sand beach, well kept garden and awesome pool (just outside our room). If you are the beach-lover type of person, "Alona stretch" is the place to be.

With regard to the water supply in the bathroom, just let it flow for 5 seconds, and the initial salty taste will be off. Still not potable though.

We also took a tricycle going to Bee Farm which is only 15 minutes away -- had brunch and shopped for some souvenirs. (stayed there for almost 2 hours only) - which is enough I would say.

Oh for lunch or dinner, you can choose among various resto a 100 meters away more or less from Alona Tropical shores -- reasonably priced and beach front.

Im just wondering though, how come our room doesn't have an intercom connected to front desk?

The place at first glance is beautifully landscaped. I love the layout of the resort. There are lots of trees, plants, and winding walkways. The place also appears well-maintained.

The air conditioned deluxe room we got has cable TV (which wasn't crisp clear) and a hot & cold shower (which takes some time to adjust). I liked the bed, the island feel of the room interiors, and the beachfront location of the room.

I didn't like the bad cable TV and near transparent curtains. During the evening we had to dim the lights inside because I didn't want people outside looking in.

The location is wonderful. On the far corner of Alona Beach. Lovely for those who are looking for peace and quiet. But it can get boring if you're looking for something more lively. The bar here appears to be better for those who want to surf via WI-FI or read a book. It wasn't a party place when we were there.

Best parts of the resort:
- Located at a very peaceful corner of the beach
- Well-maintained and beautifully landscaped

What the resort lacked:
- Consistent friendliness (only 2 out of 5 resort staff would smile or greet you)
- No telephone in our room to call for room service
- It's own spa (the place looks so lovely and relaxing but there's no spa!)
- Wi-Fi in the rooms
- Bad signal for Globe and Smart subscribers (cellphone signal) in this part of Alona

** During our Sept. 2-5 visit, my peeve was the lack of warmth and hospitality of some resort staff. We checked in late night after a long day tour of Bohol. All we got was one bland "Good evening.". Likely they were already tired, but still. At the restaurant one early morning it looked like some of the staff weren't happy to see us, and when we asked for a masseuse one late night the staff didn't look too pleased. An added smile on their part would have made this resort FOUR STARS for me. But that's not what we got. **

However, I still recommend this place.

I've been to Alona beach twice and have stayed at Alona Tropical both times. The resort offers the best value for money because it's cheap enough at around Php2000+ for a standard room, but it's located at the far end of the beach between Amorita and Alona Palm, the two most expensive resorts along Alona so the area is quiet and private, away from the noisy restaurants and beachfront bars.

The first time I was there, a lot of seaweed was washed ashore and the resorts couldn't clean it up fast enough. We didn't really enjoy hanging out on the beach much that trip but thankfully, the resort's swimming pool was clean and we spent most of the afternoons there. On my second visit, the beachfront was pristine because the resort raked the sand every morning, so I guess there's just a time of year when the tides bring in too much seaweed that it becomes an eyesore.

Their restaurant serves a great breakfast, although a bit pricey at Php200+ a plate. Lunch and dinner fare are ordinary and overpriced. The rooms are not new and have the usual nipa hut on the beach smell, not entirely unpleasant but not conducive to staying in either.

Overall: no frills room, nice tropical garden pool setting, great location on the beach.

The value for money is very good. The staff are friendly, helpful and attentive. We were a family of four sharing a room by the pool during off-season. The restaurant is decent, with live music at night. There is an extensive drinks list at the bar. Guests of the hotel get a 10% discount for scuba diving, and the shop is right there. Our room was basic, but clean and air-conditioned, with a minibar and a tv.

We booked 3 rooms at Alona Tropical after a recommendation from the tourist desk at Tagbilaran Airport. Supposedly only superior rooms were available... once we had settled into our rooms and began looking around the resort we found that this was untrue.

At around 2400 pesos per night the "superior" rooms are poor value - amenities are scant e.g. no in-room safe, no refrigerator, no hot water etc.

The rooms are, in fact, very very basic as well as being poorly decorated. They are also quite dark, requiring the use of lighting even during the day.

The promised wi-fi was not available until the end of the 2nd day, despite a number of enquiries about its availability.

To top it off, the check out process was frustratingly laborious. All in all a great disappointment. Look elsewhere!

the resort is about 40 min, from the airport. i was glad to have reserved this resort as one of the best attractions was the location. it was right in front of the alona beach strip. the whole resort was mainly made of either nipa or wood. the rooms were spread on a pretty huge property. they had plants and trees all over the place, a deck, and a swimming pool. another attraaction for me were the restaurant and the bar both in front of the beach. the staff was friendly.
i didn't expect anything fancy or an extremely clean room. our room had an aircondition where we could regulate the temperature, quite clean, and had cable tv for catching up with the news before i started the day. the veranda had a small table and 2 chairs which can be useful for others. at times, we had problems with water in our bathroom faucet n the staff tried to fix it if possible. in general, food in the restaurant was not cheap and sometimes the service was slow.
for divers, there is a dive center right next to the resort. they have all the equipment and suits of all sizes. the dive is not that expensive, of course, depends on one's requirements.
the cashier is in the restaurant so when i got the bill from the reception in front (street side), they told me to pay at the cashier. i had to walk down to the restaurant again to pay. i had the impression, if you don't ask they won't give you much information.
not so far from alona beach is one of the oldest towns of the province, tagbilaran. so many historical sights, river cruise, the bohol bee farm, the smallest tarsier, as well as activities like dolphin watching,...one can rent motorbikes to drive around the clean town or hire a car and a driver.
anyway, for the price i paid, it was worth staying at this resort.
