“Real Relaxation”
Reviewed January 31, 2013

The property is well maintained and has got so much character. We rented 2 beachfront rooms(2 levels) it was nice to hear the beach at night while you sleep. Fresh air. I wouldn't mind trying the rooms close to the beach with AC cause my kid was complaining that he got bitten by mosquitos. haha

I love the owners collection of antiques being featured in their giftshop. The reception was quick and pleasant. We requested to be picked up at the port and the driver was on time. We then booked him for our day tour of Bohol and it was a pleasure. The resort accommodated us very well.

The restaurant was quick and delish. The beach is clean and just a few steps away from the busy restaurant if thats what you want.

I loved this property because it was quiet and if you want the night life (not much in the island but a band singing at night during dinner) you could just walk 3 minutes to it and join .

I would definetly go back to this property and bring more ppl with me!

Mabuhay!

We stayed for 4 days and 3 nights. Pros: our room was in front of the beach, great service of the staff, food at the restaurant was really good, good price for the place, great place for privacy and peace since it's at the end of Alona Beach, has it's own swimming pool. Cons: There is no divider between the shower area and toilet area in the bathroom so the floor was totally wet. No mat outside the door so all the sand goes with you when you get in your room. Warning: If you want more peace and quiet, ask for a room that is not near the path that everyone use. Otherwise, great place stay in! Will recommend this place!

This kind of place would typically be the place we'd avoid like the plague, but we came here on a whim without doing much research up front.
Alona Beach is the Ibiza, the Lloret de Mar, from the Philippines. It has turned so touristic that it's become a pain in the behind. The moment we got off the Jeepney at Alona Beach and we were swarmed by pretty much every local individual, yelling "taksi, taksi", "tseep room", "we tseeper room!", "spesjal price, tseep room", "iland tour, tomowwow", "masaaasj, masaaasj?". It was so annoying that it raised the hairs on the back of our necks.
Sure, you're a Westerner with (supposedly) a lot of money, and it's said it "comes with the territory", but having traveled around quite a bit, this is the approach that will eventually chase away tourists as quickly as they've come.

We hadn't booked anything, and when we came to Alona beach we walked immediately all the way to the end of the beach to be as far away as possible from all the obnoxious people offering things.
Alona Tropical Beach Resort was at the end. We asked for a room, checked for the options. The cheapest were all taken, so we had to go with the mid-range, 2900PHP per night, room, with AC, hot water and free Wifi.
We were brought to our room and found the door wide open. It was a small room with a double bed. The door had been open, we guess, in a futile attempt to air it. It smelled bad inside, a mixture of an old clothing closet and wet dog. And now, with the door having been open for who knows how long, the room was filled with mosquitoes.
After the long trip to Bohol, we wanted to freshen up and just take it easy. There were no towels in the room, I had to go to reception and ask for a set of towels (no extra charge). Even if we had a room with hot water, we managed to take a "hot" shower maybe 2 times in our 5-day stay.
The AC functioned well, but was so loud it was like a truck was racing around in the room. The first night we slept with it on, but it kept us both awake. The second night we slept with it off, and we were eaten alive by mosquitoes. The rest of the nights was a compromise between the truck and the mosquitoes; suffice to say that we weren't really rested when we left Alona Beach.
The Wifi didn't work in our room. Heck, there wasn't even normal cellphone coverage anywhere near our room. It all came back on when we got closer to the bar or restaurant.

The room wasn't very clean, neither was the bathroom. The toilet had serious problems flushing and the tap sat loose in the sink, so every time you turned on the water (and you forgot the tap was loose) the tap would turn all the way to the side pouring the water not in the sink but on the side of the sink and onto the floor.

The staff was very friendly and very helpful, the restaurant serving the breakfast (not included in the 2900PHP, but available for 500PHP extra per person) was nice and there was a good selection of dishes for the breakfast.

All in all... a disappointing stay in a rather disappointing location. We later heard that one beach further would've been a lot better, and a lot less touristic.

Stayed at Alona Tropical Beach Resort from January 11-13, 2013. The place is very nice including the beach front. The resort is on the serene side of the island, but a walking distance to the bars and night fun. Pros: cheap, relaxing place, very good staff. Cons: There is a lot of mosquitoes in the room. A similar complaint was made by a Swedish traveler also just near our room

My husband and I just came back from there and we had an amazing time. Definitely a highlight of our trip. The food at the restaurant is amazing, the hotel is so unique and it had so much character. It is in the best part of Alona beach and the grounds are spectacular. The massages for U$8/hr were just a plus!
Great hotel, and in the middle of all the resorts this one definitely stood out!

Room Tip: Get an A/C room. Bohol and Panglao can get very hot and humid and you don't want to ruin your...

We just returned from our trip to Alona Beach. We were there for wedding with 5 days of relaxing after. Initially we stayed at Bohol Diver's Resort, but we were in this area for a wedding and had the opportunity to see and visit many resorts including Amorita and Linaw (where the wedding was held).
Alona Tropical Beach Resort is in a prime beach location (at one end - the cleaner end) with the best of the beach. The service was excellent and it was a very natural setting. My daughter loved the animals and birds in the "zoo" area, I loved being surrounded by interesting religious antiques and having brewed coffee and fresh juice each morning. We also enjoyed a fabulous Christmas day buffet and Filipino dance show, put on by both professionals and the staff, with the finale of fireworks.
Our room (an air-con room with a balcony view of the beach - approx $85 per night) was clean and comfortable, with cable TV and a pretty amoire to hang our clothes in. The room was cleaned daily with fresh sheets and towels. (unlike our first place) The place is not fancy - just has the basics with a comfy bed, soap and a shower that is hot and has a bit of pressure. There are three of us, so they happily but a soft mattress in our room for our daughter and changed the sheets/bedding each day for her bed, too.
Our friends stayed at the Amorita, up the cliff next to us and paid more than double. We assumed we would spend some time up there - for better food, pool, etc. We were wrong. They ended up eating with us and swimming with us - better quality food, service and convenience.
Some things not to be missed in the area: Bohol Bee Farm! The food is AMAZING and organic. We bought the delicious pesto and mango spread before we left. And grilled seafood on the beach. We loved Hayuhay for their grilled food and service.
If we returned to this area, we would come back to Alona Tropical Beach Resort.

Room Tip: We stayed in Room 47 - it offered a beach view, was quiet and on the second floor. Very good value f...

Pros:
-Great location on the beach
-has own pool.
-they offer pick up from the sea port/airport
-good size rooms
-good conversational English from the staff

Cons:
-the reservation process was tiring. I had to call, confirm, re-confirm, send e-mail, call to re-confirm again. And still had problems when I checked in.
-Bathroom is old & dirty. not enough space to put your toiletries on. I had to put mine on the toilet top
-Lots of spiders everywhere! Beware arachnophobic people.
-The service is horrendous. They only cater to foreigners. Local tourists are deemed invisible to their eyes. Colonial mentality still exist. We waited for 10 mins, the staff passing by us, serving the foreigners that just got seated while totally ignoring us. If we didn't call on the waiter, we wouldn't have gotten anything!
-Breakfast isn't buffet. You choose either American breakfast (250 php), Filipino breakfast (250 php) or the other one is basically just toast, butter & jam + coffee (150 php).
-Walls are thin. I can hear the neighbor sing in their shower!
-The seats on the beach are very hard, broken & can cut you.
-small bowl of ice cost 25 php
-There's no phone in the room, if you need something, you have to walk to get it.
-Bancas are all over the shore. It's the only thing that ruins the picturesque view.
-Caged animals. Monkey's, eagles & pigeons beside the pool area.
-They don't keep a record of your payment. So KEEP YOUR RECEIPTS. They told me I had to pay for the couple of nights I stayed when I already payed it the moment I checked in.

Overall, I wasn't satisfied with the resort. I wouldn't recommend this place at all. it was a let down the moment we stepped in to the moment we checked out. the place was good, it was really the staff's attitudes & the service that should be changed.
