South Palms Resort
Ranked #2 of 50 Hotels in Panglao Island
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed February 8, 2014

This new South Palms Resort claimed to be 4-5 star in Panglao but totally makes no difference in checking in the resort right next to SPR. They share the same beach and shoreline but SPR charges 75% more compared to the resort right next to it. Arrived in Bohol January 16 2014. Checked in Dumaluan Resort (which is beside South Palms Resort). The long shoreline is really inviting you to walk so we did had this long walk. We came across a divider seems to me in the beach. We met a security guard and we were told to just walk in the shoreline because we did not checked in their resort. I had a little conversation and said, I want to look at your resort and see if I can spend my money and if it is worth my money. The security guard offered his manager instead because really, no one is allowed to walk in their resort. I was like really??? Well then this sounds interesting to me so we decided to walk in and speak to their manager. What kind of management is this who doesn't allow you to view their resort? How would I know if this resort is worth my money? When we arrived in the reception, it was quiet and this front desk asked as to how can they help? Informed her, that their security guards need to have orientation on NOT throwing away guest prospects. There were many before us who were pushed back by these security guards, no walking allowed for the reason that they did not check in. This resort will need more studies on how to invite their guests and not just corner them and tell good things about the resort while guests are in Tagbilaran port.
1. Compare SPR to 5 star resorts in Dumaguete where people can walk in and see if the resort is worth staying.
2. Offer walk in dining. How can non guest try your food if your security guards are blocking the way?
3. Compare walking in Amorela Resort and their security guards are well trained and very nice in letting us see their resort. Hello? We are here for vacation, beach and sun and a bed to sleep at night. Any traveler on a holiday knows that they don't have to spend 10000 a night in this resort and spend the day out on Countryside Bohol Tour. Hello? Wake up? The next resort charges 2600 a night and it has all that a traveler needed.
To those who just want to waste money then checked in here. To those who want VALUE for their money, then please make a wise decision.
To my countrymen, don't be deceived on the information that because these are resorts privately owned, it stops you from swimming on the sea where the resort is located. No one owns the sea. Not them not me. It's for all of us to enjoy.

We booked South Palms and moved to it from another one along the beach all within 15 minutes following a disagreement with our previous hotel! Great decision! It is fantastic! It is a new hotel set up on part of what used to be Bohol Beach Club or BBC as the locals call it and has only been open since Dec 2013. They have renovated and built many more rooms and done a really good job. Although this is obviously aimed at the higher end market, due to its recent opening we were able to get it at a lower rate through Agoda and it was worth every peso!

Staff were frankly amazing, so helpful, attentive, friendly and polite. They were particularly helpful when a small medical issue occurred and we needed to visit the local hospital which they arranged for us. We were driven there by Orlando, in the hotel van and accompanied by the Hotel Nurse, Joseph who could not have done more to smooth the progress with the local doctor and the collecting of the prescription. On our return they provided a hot compress – just what the doctor ordered! The staff literally fell over themselves to be amenable and helpful – eg standing holding a torch to guide us to dinner, running to provide us with umbrellas as we walked through reception and it started to rain and even pulling up an extra chair at the table to place my handbag on! We felt thoroughly spoilt!

We had a lovely room, very modern, nice bathroom, fridge, kettle and tea and coffee provided. There was also a safe and umbrellas provided. We also had wifi in our room but am not sure if that was whether we were close to reception or whether it is generally available in all rooms but it was much appreciated anyway! There are two lovely pools on site and the one at the west end is an infinity pool set between the restaurant and the beach bar. There are comfortable loungers all along the massive beach frontage already set out with umbrellas and towels. There are also some cabanas along the beach and the spa is actually run from 4 beachfront cabanas. When I went for a massage there were groundsmen sweeping and raking the sand all around me as I was dressing and undressing and would have appreciated a little more privacy! I thought the massages were also a reasonable price for a luxury hotel (650 pesos)! There is also a shop in which the prices seemed quite good.

All restaurant staff were really good, always trying their very best to assist and seemingly very interested in chatting to us. We had breakfast included in the price which was very nice, although as there were not enough people to justify a buffet they still provided a good choice a la carte. We also ate evening meals there (it would be a fair walk along the beach to go anywhere else!) and they too were good and well presented - bit more pricy than other hotels but to be expected for the type of resort. We also ate at the pool bar and that too was very pleasant.

Whilst the hotel is still in a developmental stage and decidedly quiet at the time of our visit, there is massive potential and it should do very well as it is on a gorgeous white sandy beach and has a wide range of high standard accommodation. They really look after the beach and the grounds and there is a whole army of people sweeping, raking and tidying all day long. The beach is much nicer and quieter than nearby Alona Beach. You can snorkel right in front of the hotel but compared to other places there was not an awful lot to see.

All in all a fantastic hotel and we would love to go back one day!

Most beautiful shoreline i ever seen in the whole Panglao Island, I been traveling in Asia and Europe and I highly recommends South Palms Resort Panglao if your into beach relaxation with privacy since it's a sprawling property, a comfy beds and linens that made our body lazy most of the time and a very attentive and sincere staff from housekeeping to concierge is a plus who made our Bohol holiday just perfect.. Thank you and Cheers to South Palms Resort Management Team.

Room Tip: Choose a Deluxe Beach Front a few steps away from the beach white sands

Had a two nights and 3 days stay in South Palms resort, the pick up from the port going to the resort was on time and in a brand new vehicle. On the way to the resort, we could pass by the Dauis Church that was damaged by the recent earthquake, the driver said if we wanted to go down and take a picture we could but we opt to proceed to the resort. They had a bottle of complimentary water for us in the port and as soon as we got in to the resort we had a warm great scenting towel waiting for us as well as a soothing lemon grass drink. The staff were all smiling and very friendly. We had a toddler with us, when our room was made up an elephant and doggie towel was waiting for us that delighted my niece.
The resort has the longest beach front, which is perfect if you want your privacy. If you go a bit further down the beach it is where you can see how packed usually the beach are from all locals and tourists alike.

We had a fantastic stay in this resort, the staff said they will be adding other facilities soon as they had just a soft opening.

I stayed here for a week on a business trip in Bohol and I must say, I really enjoyed my stay. This is part of the old Bohol Beach Club which was purchased and refurbished by the new owners. The staff are very nice and I particularly love the driver-orderly named Jezer. He picked us up at the airport and along the way, he would tell us which historical or significant places we passed by.

The staff are friendly and always willing to help. The rooms are beautiful. I love the beds and would have wanted to take home the pillows! They're super comfy! Food is really good but the offering in the menu needs some improvement. Like, I would have wanted to try authentic Boholano dishes. But what I really like about their food is that they're fresh. I found out that the resort has its own farm and so most of the vegetables, fruits and seafood they offer are their own produce so they're really fresh.

South Palms has the longest white sand beach in this side of the island and you can be assured of privacy. If you're looking for some "action" though, this may not be the place to stay. This is quite far from where the night life is but it's perfect for families with kids. Wholesome fun with their diverse water sport offering. The resort has a dive shop so you can book for island hopping, snorkeling or scuba diving. It also has two pools. I will definitely book again here and bring my family next time.

We stayed here overnight for a friend's wedding. I think this was the old Bohol beach club under new management

There was airport transfer that took us to the hotel that was 30 minutes away
The staff were accommodating, there was an infinity pool, buffet breakfast was served with so-so food consisting of fruits, cereals, sausages and other grilled stuff

beach was white sand and activities were minimal. If you peace and quiet this is the resort to be! if you want action and activities you might want to look elsewhere (unless you request island hoping)

this resort wasn't affected by the recent earthquake and i was happy with my visit here

Room Tip: Tell the driver to drive faster if you're in a hurry. they're required to travel 60-80kph on...
