“Good for those who wants to be away from noise”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 10, 2014

Due to the other hotel at the Alona beach was fully booked we have booked Cliffside and thought it would be at the end of the beach and can be easily accessible to the beach and other restaurants. The resorts has no restaurants, bars, souvenir shops, but just tranquility. There are only 9 rooms in the resort. There is quite a distance of road to get in to the resort from the main road, and the road condition was really bad. You can't just walk out from the hotel, you need to get a taxi or a tricycle in order to get out. This place is really not convenient for divers, but it is nice for those who just looking for tranquiity and a nice place to stay and just spend time in the resort. There is no kettle or cup in the room, you have to ask the staff to get everything for you. The lightings in the room is really very dim, the good thing is they have additional standing fan in the room other than the aircon. There is no comforter in the room, only a thin sheet of bed sheet used as the blanket and you will have to place a request if you want the staff to clean up the room for you. With the price you are paying, you can actually get a nicer room at the Alona beach area.

You could spend the entire day here just watching the endless ocean, the view from this place is breathtaking! Unlike the resorts along Alona beach, there are no restaurants, seafood eateries, bars, souvenir shops, hawkers, dogs... but just tranquility.
The rooms were clean, food was good and the chef did allow us to use the barbecue and cook our own food. The resort also provides free use of motorbikes (fuel included), which is great coz you can just ride around Pangalao and explore the island on your own.
The pool was disappointing as it was dirty. Also this is not really a place to go with kids since there nothing for the kids to do besides swimming (in the pool).

If you enjoy complete peace and undisturbed ocean view, this is your place. As the name says, it does not have white beach as it sits on a cliff but it does have stairs down to the water so you can go for a swim. There is no traffic between you and the water, no coming and going, no sales hawkers disturbing you, nobody walking past. You want the hustle n bustle, use one of their motorbikes provided free as part of your unit for the 3 minute ride to Alona beach. And yes, the 800 meter rough road to this resort is a little bumpy, but not worth to complain about - it is easily manageable even in heavy rain. The resort staff are absolutely excellent, and the facility in its simplicity offers great value. Dutchy n Alex have done a great job getting this place off the ground in March 2013, and Jojo, the Filipino manager, ensures all system perform to the highest standard of customer service in all departments - with a smile by everyone, including with cheeky cheerful joking - be prepared: you will be made to laugh before long. And you probably fall in love with this place and their staff. And no, the super typhoon and earthquake of late 2013 did NOT effect any tourist facility on Panglao Island - there is no reason to stay away, in contrary, perfect to visit now as it is less busy than normal, great deals abound, absolutely beautiful. And the tourists should keep coming as normal, as this keeps the economy going as the fantastic local workers do not need a mind-set created economic crisis after a disaster which did not even effect the area of Panglao Island.

Room Tip: You can have a room near to the house bar, or further away by their great swimming pool - easy to ch...

Just a week after the Typhoon Yolanda, we stayed here. We had booked it even before the earthquake that hit Bohol, but decided to stay there even after these two horrendous events. I wrote them a couple emails just to be certain it was still open, and received an email back that they didn't have electricity but "would make our stay as comfortable as possible". Well upon arrival the staff was friendly and we checked in to our room. It was simple but nicely decorated and had a comfortable foam bed. One of the reasons we chose this resort was the location with a swim up bar at their pool
The first night we did have generator power but no air conditioning, which is pretty understandable since no electrical service.
The staff was very friendly but very poorly trained, which I would fault ownership, which is a partnership of 2 young men, one from Australia (Dutch) and one from France that we didn't meet. Dutch was friendly enough, but not at all outgoing. I personally would have been quite humbled knowing people were choosing his small resort of 9 rooms currently, with no public power. But he seemed more interested in playing computer games than trying to accommodate his guests.
The second day after arrival was a Sunday, and my wife and I, after a long day helping devastated friends in Loon, came back to enjoy the pool and swim up bar. The young staff members told us it was Sunday, so the bartender had the day off. So what that meant was no swim up bar. Pretty sorry way to run a railroad Dutch. We actually taught these 2 young trainees how to make a fun cocktail and "got by".
The electricity came back on that evening from the public utility, however they still didn't turn on our hot water, so only cold showers in the salt water bathroom water system.
So I guess what I'm trying to say here is that these 2 young men who just recently purchased the resort after leasing it for 15 years need to get off their duffs and run the place. It is a diamond in the rough, and could be a first class resort, but now it is run on the cheap and no extra effort put into it. We gave them our business knowing how all businesses must be hurting after the earthquake and typhoon, but expected them to be doing more to make our stay enjoyable. They offer free use of motorbikes, so we wanted to take one for a spin. They had probably 10 of them, but they evidently were all out of gas. We waited a good 30 minutes in the heat for the staff to go get a pop bottle full of gas to get one running. Again, Dutch, a heck of a way to run a railroad.
Bottom line is, until they get their act together, we won't be back and won't recommend anyone else to come to this beautiful resort with a not so beautiful business plan.

Room Tip: Go somewhere else for now.....

I stayed in this hotel for 3 nights with my family. This hotel had great sea view and nice swimming pool, but did not have a good thing other than these. To being with, however I had a reservation of transportation from the airport to the hotel, they did not appear at the airport. In addition, when I got to the hotel by taxi, I did not be apologized to for the transportation.
In the restaurant, there were many drink menus, but varieties of main food menus were few. I thought each of these prices was slightly more expensive than Alona-Beach.
This hotel was located the cliff facing the sea and had the path (stairs) for guests to access to/from the sea. But it came to an end before reaching the sea. So I had to put a bamboo ladder by myself between the sea and the end of the path, and then I had to use it as an extension of the path. It was danger and hard.
I did snorkeling at the reef edge of in front of the hotel. As far as coral is concerned, it was better than the reef edge of Alona Beach. But as far as the visibility and the amounts of fish are concerned, they were not better than Alona Beach.
I expect family feeling for hotel, but this hotel had not it. I did not feel the staffs were kindly and friendly.
Generally, I thought this hotel is suitable for the people who want to do sightseeing or ride a motorbike, but is not suitable for the people who want to play in the sea and stay in the hotel.

Price is reasonably good with nice and amazing view. What can I say?
You will be given a welcome drinks upon check in plus free motorbike rental with each room.
Although we faced earthquakes on 15.10.2013 (Tues) but nothing has been damaged.
This will not stop me from recommend friends to go Bohol especially to stay Cliffside Resort.
Alex, JJ and his staff were very amicable during our stay. You must try their pizza, was awesome. It was baked from traditional brick wood oven.

Room Tip: Cliffside allows both privacy and exclusive environments. A selection of creative and casual dinning...

Drinks and food - good! Everything is working: aircon, tv, toilet, shower, safety box, fridge and bar outside :)
Don't forget your driving license before going there;) cos you'll have a Motobike included.
