“Good beach, but nothing special”
Reviewed March 26, 2013

Good beach, but nothing special. Close to the coast many sea stars. Little shade, all the trees are occupied hotels.

“Touristy, poorly maintained, jampacked with restaurants & hotels”
Reviewed March 23, 2013

Alona beach might have been beautiful a long time ago. Now it is crowded with hotels, shops and restaurants from end-to-end. There is a lot of washed-up seaweed that nobody bothers to sweep away. Thrash can be seen everywhere. The dining seats of the beachfront restaurants encroach on the beach blocking the otherwise good view of the white sand beach.
You do have good options here when it comes to where to stay but you don't go to a beach mainly for the hotel, right ? Construction for new hotels is on-going as I hear the Panglao branch of the (Boracay) Regency hotel is currently being built.
You can also charter small boats from here to go island hopping, and there are a lot of shops offering their services for divers. Going from Alona beach to other places is not cheap and not easily available though.
Sadly, with the planned Panglao International Airport, this apparent lack of concern for the preservation of the natural beauty of Alona beach could get worse.

“White beach”
Reviewed March 22, 2013

Long stretch of white sand beach. There are jellyfishes here though. Swim with caution.

There's lot of eating places to choose from here. Love having my breakfast here, early in the morning.

“Great area to stay during your Bohol trip”
Reviewed March 21, 2013

Alona Beach is only about 1 mile (1.5km) long and the beach in front of Alona Tropical Resort is really the only very beautiful place you can lounge, read, snorkel, sip cool drinks and get an inexpensive 1 hour massage. It's the best way to spend a day and unwind after your Bohol Island tours.

The rest of the beach is packed with dinner on the beach restaurants with live music and small bars. That isn't necessarily a bad thing! We had a candle light/tiki torch dinner and drinks on the beach every night while we enjoyed the live music and just people watched.

A lot of travelers are there for the diving or have an early morning Bohol tour so there's not much "raging" going on, but you'll find plenty of people from all over the world who are looking to have a good time at any of the bars either on the beach or the main road, just don't expect it to compare with Boracay. :)

I gave this 4/5 because there are too many vendors (although they aren't as pushy as some other places), a couple properties do not clean the beach out front of their restaurant/resort (this is a disgrace -- shame on them. It would cost 40 pesos to hire someone to clean that every morning), there's too many dive boats, and they haven't banned smoking on the beach like Boracay was wise enough to do (too many cigarette butts in the sand -- smokers are such trash)

“Get me out of here!”
Reviewed March 20, 2013

There must be a different side of Alona beach where all the great review was written. The place is overhype and full of gimmicks. The place is poorly manage and poorly maintained. Foreign owned overpriced restaurant with bland taste is everywhere staff with overworked locals. Tourist grabbing vendors offering snorkels and diving was in every corner of the beach. Transportation price to and from the airport is ridiculously doesn't make sense at all. Local government need to oversee this place if it wants to become the next "big" thing.
