We have stayed a couple of times and on both occasions the dinner and breakfast have been super. We meet friends here as it is the halfway between us and they have enjoyed the food too but didn't want to stay over the last time. This was due to no real apology for there not being any hot water in their room the last time.

We stayed here for a couple of nights. The staff were very friendly and the room was well appointed, although for some reason we were unable to get hot water!
We had a meal in the restaurant, the food was excellent and very well presented.
Generally a good experience, shame about the hot water.

But for the wrong reasons. They have got it spectacularily wrong. As a regular visitor to this hotel (at least 2 nights a month) how it has changed over 18 months. The girls on the receotion are fantastic nothing is too much for them, but I do feel for them and how they field the complaints which sometines are in abundance. We know which rooms to avoid for a good night sleep and a good shower, even the staff refer to a certain corridor as "cold water alley", need I say more. But what has prompted me to write this report is the way the restaurant has slid. We wont eat our evening meal here we go to the indian down the road or The house in the tree pub. The choice and price in restaurant in the hotel is not very good to say the least and with the new staff not very friendly. This morning we were not even greeted for breakfast, nor were we told to help ourselves to tea (stewed) or coffee. When I asked for scrambled eggand salmon it was met with a look of pure astonishment and when I dared to adk for a pot of fresh tea the guy almost refused to bring one I had to insist. The staff here in tge rrestaurant has changed and not for the better. Things need to be sorted or I am sorry to say people may not return after one visit which will be a shame as it is a not bad hotel, if you eat elsewhere.

Great Service, room was really nice but the food in the resturant was dissapointing, the food was expensive and didnt do justice to the fancy discriptions on the menu, breakfast was from a buffet and was not the best. Good loication and easy to find.

My wife and I stayed in this Hotel for the night of 25th. August 2013. Whilst we had a beautifully appointed room, the shower did not work. Well, it did but would either freeze you or poach you, your choice! During a very warm night, the air-con dripped, noisily and constantly all night resulting in a soaked area of carpet. One or two issues with housekeeping, shelves had not been dusted (fake jewel found on washbasin plinth. Tube of someone else's hair gel wedged down the side of the writing desk. We saw it, why didn't they?
The restaurant was "faulty towers" personified. It started with the jug of water, being brought to our table, still dripping and warm obviously straight from the kitchen tap.
Half the menu was not available, and when we commented on this, we were told, rather curtly, that "there are other things to choose from" as though it was our fault. What was available was okay, except a so called cheese-board, at £8.95 which comprised 6 crackers, 6 grapes (small) and 3 tiny triangles of cheese. No butter and served on an 8 inch plate. The choice of cheeses being made for me. When I complained to the waiter about the price for the dish his response was " you will not get fine dining here"
I did not want to report any of this to Tripadvisor until I had given the General Manager, Mr. J. Beare the opportunity of a response. I have written, to him twice on a personal level, and, to date I have not even had the courtesy of an acknowledgement inspite of addressing letters for his attention, the last being marked 'private and confidential' to avoid the "did not get your letter" excuse being used.
Staff are lead by example!! enough said.
This might just prompt the General Manager to respond.

OK your arrival might make you think "what?" Because it ain't he prettiest of buildings
Step inside ....
We were greeted in reception by Karen, the warmest, honest and professional of greetings possible was delivered.
We entered our room ... Yep....you can swing a cat in this room...a big cat. It's wonderful, big, clean and bright.......and very clean.
Evening dinner was a surprise, we viewed the menu with half hearted disappointment but the food we chose was superb, well presented and delivered to the table with a warm greeting
The beds were.... The best!
This last minute decision to stay in Cheltenham having taken our son to his first day at Uni was a delight.
A hotel we thoroughly recommend

Having stayed here on a business trip I cannot recommend this place enough. Rooms are large and super clean but the cherry on the cake has to be the staff, nothing is to much trouble even to the point where I had to leave well before breakfast they arranged that the night porter would be on hand to make me tea and toast. Definitely return
