Stopped on the spur of the moment on the way home from dry 2 weeks holiday in NW Scotland - mainly camping. Had super night - fantastic food - dinner and breakfast; superb views; large clean comfortable double room and big bathroom. Staff went out of the way to make us feel welcome and we enjoyed the Thurs night live band and of course the log fires.

The first and most overwhelming feature of this hotel is its stunning location, right on the edge on Loch Shiel, nestled far far away from the madding crowds, in the heart of the Scottish highlands! Designed as an old country manor/mansion with lawns going right down to the water, it doesn't get prettier! The interiors are beautifully elegant as well, with helpful staff and the restaurant offers good, tasty scottish food. The kippers at breakfast were lipsmacking! the room was nice and the bathroom just brilliant with a stunning bath-tub and toiletries. It isnt 5 star, but makes for a great stay in the scottish heartland. Come here to do...nothing at all!! Just to relax, take long pretty walks and of course, photograph the stunning environs!

We've just been lucky enough to have a 4 night stay at Glenfinnnan House Hotel. We've been visiting the hotel since 2000, just before Manja and Duncan took over as Manager and Head Chef, and would recommend it to anyone (and frequently do!). The staff are very professional and friendly and make it feel like you are staying in the house of a friend who is lucky enough to own a large, rambling, Scottish baronial mansion with lovely people on hand to make you beautiful food (bliss) and tidy up after you, and with a great bar on the premises. We've stayed in various rooms over the years (our absolute favourite is the Jacobite suite, pure luxury with the most amazing views over Loch Shiel and the Glenfinnan monument with Ben Nevis in the background) but all the rooms we've stayed in have been lovely with antique furniture and (thankfully) no phones or TVs - absolute bliss as far as we're concerned. Can't wait till our next visit!

The strength of this hotel is its unique and beautiful location. I stayed here as part of an intimate family group celebrating a special birthday with my husband and ten year old daughter. Overall, the hotel is very clean, the food is nicely cooked and well presented. Breakfast is superb with a varied choice. In many ways this is an ideal family hotel, however, we found our family room to be extremely cramped, very little room to move, furthermore, the rooms do not lock and ours opened almost directly onto the corridor. This became a problem when our daughter was playing with friends and we were changing, the door was flung open by her friends and our semi nakedness was exposed to all passing by! The compact bedroom isdefinitely compensated for by the wonderful jacuzzi bath in the ensuite. Having said all that I would have said that it would have been better to extend the bedroom slightly and reduce the size of the bathroom. We raised the issue of the room with management who were really not sympathetic. We paid a lot of money for a three night stay and left feelinga little disappointed. In summary, book a family room with caution!

What a place! We stayed here for 3 nights in April and were delighted with the accomodation and ambience of this wonderful hotel. The food was of a high quality in both the restaurant and the bar and the "craic" in the bar was great fun.The staff were very helpful and nothing was to much trouble for them. We were fortunate to stay over on a Thursday when there is a music night in the bar where between 6 and 14 local musicians performed some wonderful traditional Scottish music. The hotel is right on the shores of Loch Shiel with stunning views of the surrounding mountains and surely one of the best views of Ben Nevis. We booked a cruise on Loch Shiel to view the scenery and wildlife which we absolutely loved. It is also possible to hire a boat and engine for fishing. Altogether a magical three days in the Highlands which we will repeat.

We live just 13 miles from Glenfinnan and visit often for dinner and always wished we could stay over. So last night (15 April) we did and were not disappointed. Our room was lovely, spacious and nicely decorated , comfy bed. Bathroom was large with jacuzzi bath. We had dinner in the dining room which has beautiful views over the loch and mountains. Food wonderfull as always and breakfast was great with lots of choice. Thanks Duncan, Manja and staff.
