“Ran out of a third of the menu and bar woman with attitude .”
Reviewed July 29, 2013

Booked a table and arrived 5 mins early. Spent 50 mins waiting for order to be taken and when they finally came a third of the options had run out. Chose the rump steak but was told only had sirloin which was £6 more. As it was described as extra matured and with hand cut chips relented. The shared fish starter was very good as was the fish pie but the £18 steak was chewier than chewing gum and as it was cooked spot on ( medium rare ) good knows what it would gave been well done. Hand cut chips were frozen from the bag and when I pointed this out the woman at the bar said oh you should have been told, but 'thee ok aren't they?' I said no actually Actually hand cut chips are on a different level, but she just ignored my reply and went off. As we were near the food I heard her talk ho other customers and found her manner condescending, bossy and rude so clearly she is like that and I feel her manner let the pub down. If the menu was available and the woman sacked this place would be a winner... Shame we copped a bad night! When you come out for a meal you don't want to bullied into your meal choice and ignored and no adjustment made for their mistake.

“Atmospheric pub with fantastic food and friendly staff”
Reviewed January 11, 2013

My husband and I had supper here a week ago. We took a table for two at a roaring fire. I had the fish pie and my husband had venison wellington (superbly cooked pastry) with really fresh veg. Delicious and the wine was very good too. We have lived in the area for a couple of years and this is the best pub we have dined at. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We will definitely be going back.

“Quality varies constantly.”
Reviewed August 13, 2012

We used to go here on a regular basis. No more. Food and service have gone down hill in the last few years and we have found better places to eat and drink. They still have the best view from the beer garden....

“Nice pub with friendly staff”
Reviewed March 27, 2012

Had lunch in early March with family. The food was good, if not great, but there was plenty of it and the accompanying beer was well kept and it was all pretty good value. This is a nice pub in a very rural location and well worth a visit
