“A disaster”
Reviewed June 24, 2012

We stopped at the Verbeer Manor for a late lunch after a trip to Diggerland. The experience was so awful it's hard to know where to start. First up, we were the only patrons, which is never reassuring, but we were happy to give the place a chance, especially as we had a sleeping baby who we didn't want to wake up by bundling her in the car to find somewhere else. The welcome was warm as we were shown to a table. It was a while before menus appeared and we then had to ask if we could order drinks, so far not so good. The menu was extensive, from baguettes to stuffed lamb and tenderloin of pork, however it was a little confused, ranging across many cuisines. Despite the choice, between the five adults we ordered scampi and chips for three, haddock and chips for one and a jacket potato with tuna and cheese. There was a wait of around 30 mins for the food to arrive and sadly our already low expectations were far too high. 8 small pieces of scampi with oily chips (£9.50), the chips indeed so oily that we found pieces of blue kitchen paper stuck on a number of them. The battered haddock was just as soggy, full of bones and went uneaten. The jacket potato was the highlight (it was edible) but had never seen an oven, just the inside of a microwave. The cheese was good. The tuna was a couple of lumps straight from a briney tin (£6).

For the prices charged here, the food needed to be a lot better. There were main courses on the menu for well over £10, we're thankful we didn't order any of them. We left feeling concerned about how this restaurant plans to stay in business. Perhaps dramatically scaling back the menu and doing a couple of simple things really well might help? The staff could use some training in basic service. Being far down a drive with only Diggerland at the end can't help.... Surely the only clientele likely to eat here are those that didn't fancy the Dig Inn.... I can't imagine anyone ever returning for the food. We wish them luck but we won't be back. Ever.

“Worst Sunday Roast ever”
Reviewed June 3, 2012

We went for a family meal on Juliblee Sunday as the location was excellent for our two families to meet up.

The deals on their website are out of date - no children's menu available (apparently someone had walked off with it) No Carvery just a Sunday plated roast.
Sparse cold food was served up.

Would we visit again? Emphatically NO

Went for Sunday lunch. The worst carvery i have ever eaten, not one good thing to say about the food, staff or the restaurant. Avoid at all cost.

“Not all that!”
Reviewed August 30, 2011

We went here Saturday evening after at day at Diggerland, the food arrived, it was ok but thought it would have been a little better, the vegetarian puffs all came out burnt on top, they brought the childs meal out last! And when we ordered coffee after, to my friends disgust she found what I can only describe as a slug type thing in her milk, she went up to complain, not one sorry from staff just another coffee and milk in a gravy boat!!!! When the bill was payed not even a discount for the slug thing was given, most descent establishments would have knocked something off the bill for the embarrisment! So I wouldn't eat here again, I'd possibly stop for a drink (not coffee!) as bar staff very friendly. Don't order the slow roasted belly of pork as it's not slow roasted and was not great.

“amazing service, great value for money”
Reviewed May 23, 2011

The first time i went there was during a sunday lunch time. It is a carvery, and it was buy one get one free. The service was fantastic, as was our meal. Highly recommend to anyone. Family friendly too!
My second visit was on a weekday lunch with my elderly mother, although very quiet, once again the lunch menu was extensive, value for money and service once again was fantastic.
The restaurant has only recently been reopened after being empty for some time therefore, weekday trade seems to be very slow....but if u can pay this place a visit, it would be a shame to lose it again!
