We took the Circumetnea train around Mt. Etna and made a 2 hour stop in Randazzo at noontime and were lucky enough to have one of the locals show us the Hotel Scrivano for lunch. Terrific, friendly service and our meals of pistaschio pasta, antipasto and fried provolone w/ratatouille really scrumptious.

Small rooms and a central location. The restaurant is worth a visit.

The hotel does not look good from the outside but the rooms are ok and here is quiet. Breakfast is fine with good bread.

The location was great, but the hotel was budget at best and not quite what we were expecting. I bet in the summer it would have been much better. In the winter, the heater just barely worked, though we were glad to find extra blankets in the closet. The towels in the bathroom were nearly unusable as they were non-absorbent and extremely thin. We just skipped a shower. The room was basic with just a bed and a CRT tv hanging from the ceiling. The breakfast was included, though it was barely even a continental breakfast. We traveled in early March.

For the past 10 years cultural groups from Ireland stop in the Hotel Scrivano and enjoy the best food available in Sicily. In Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter, we always found the same smiling people, warm reception and a true embrace of genuine Sicilian hospitality. Clean airconditioned rooms, essential furniture, including fridge and safe, made our staying more comfortable. However the best certainly has always been and still is the esquisite cuisine of the Patrons Peppe and Salvatore, certified also by the many prizes awarded to them all over Italy and elsewhere. Many friends, and myself included, go back evey year to the Hotel Scrivano to experience this oasys of humanity, that is not so easy to find elsewhere.

Room Tip: The food is esquisite and the wine better!

We were on honeymoon in Sicily and we stay for 3 nights at the Hotel Scrivano. We really enjoyed our stay, the hotel is comfortable, the staff is well prepared for foreigners and the restaurant offers various dishes all very good. I highly recommend this place! The hotel is located in a strategic and is a good location to visit Sicily.

We decided to stop for a night in Randazzo on our island tour, but it was one of the disappointments of the trip. We had been to Randazzo in heavy rain a couple of years ago and wanted to see more this time. Unfortunately we didn't find any B&Bs (they are normally everywhere) and spotted the Scrivano hotel after driving around for a long time.

The hotel was really not worth a visit and we will never go back. They spoke a little English in the reception (that's a positive thing) but the room could do with a little paint and upgrade. There was no aircondition and very warm even though we had windows open. Outside it was heavy traffic and alot of noise. They claimed to have Wifi in rooms, but we had to go outside in the corridor to get connected. The television was small and outdated and there was not remote control available.

The bed was not bad and the sheets seemed clean, but there were lots of dust under the beds. The bathroom was no more than ok. We went for a walk through Randazzo but didn't find any restaurants so we ended up eating at the hotel restaurant and had one of the worst meals ever at Sicily, the food was really terrible!

The hotel seemed to be a base for Etna and Alcantara hikers.

The breakfast was also poor, but at least they had bread and butter and a good orange juice. All the hikers had eaten before us and it was dirty and stained everywhere. We wanted some cornflakes, but found nothing to put it in. The receptionist picked two used bowls from a table and washed them.

When I paid for the room the receptionist had to go out to the gas station in front of the room to get change and waited a long time as the gas station man had a conversation going with a customer.
