“One of the best”

Over the years we have visited many holiday destinations and hotels but this one stands out as our favourite hotel and location. Like many guests we have returned to the Illa D'Or year after year. Why do we do so? Because the location is superb and the staff, who tend to remain the same (which is a good pointer) are the friendliest and most helpful we have ever met. We had a sea-view room. It is worth paying the extra to wake up in the morning and see the stunning views across the bay. We had two weeks at the hotel in May and another two weeks in October. We have already booked for another two weeks in May 2014. Perhaps that expresses more than we could put into words.

We stayed in the hotel for 2 weeks from 3rd October 13 on a 'Half Board' booking. The room was comfortable with an wonderful view over the bay. The staff were excellent - discreet and efficient. In fact, all the hotel staff were top notch, as was the restaurant which offered a wide range of dishes and were keen to help with individual requests. The outside bar served both drinks and snacks and provided a most relaxing place to watch the world go by. Can't wait to go back!

This traditional Hotel is in a beautiful, quiet, natural setting. The pine walk into the centre of Puerto Pollensa is lovely, although quite uneven in places. We were very lucky to experience one of the newly refurbished rooms with side seaview and balcony on the 3rd floor having pre-payed for the upgrade on booking our holiday. The buffet self service breakfast was excellent, everything anyone could wish for was catered for. Evening meal menu could be hit and miss although in the main plenty of choice. We found the staff very friendly and helpful. It was our first time staying at the Illa d'or and would definitely go back. I think our only critism would be that many of the hotel guests had stayed there on several occasions and expected preferential treatment making their attitude somewhat supercilious. Having said that we did meet some very nice people that were first-timers like us.

Room Tip: Pre-book your preferred requirements, eg; Seaview, balcony

Stayed here second week in September. We wanted somewhere where we could just sit and look at the views, enjoy the service and surroundings and the food; we got it all. We upgraded to a newly refurbished room with a seaview - lovely. We travelled with a retired person too who also had a refurbished room, also lovely, small but good for one person but without a seaview as there are no singles with sea views. Being overlooked by other rooms did necessitate the blinds being down a lot of the time but the room was nice. All staff without fail were friendly and courteous and helpful, we even learnt we needed to upgrade my ipad to ios7!! (For which thank you)
The evening menu choices were good, we tended to go for the freshly cooked grill plus salads as these were very tempting. Good wine list with good Majorcan wines. Eating breakfast outside was very nice. The outdoor pool was refreshingly chilly, the indoor pool warm and pleasant; the Hamman Wrap and Massage was bliss from a very competent therapist.
We were unusual in not having been before which speaks for itself - would definitely recommend and may even return! Better suited to post 50s, not really suited to small children.

Just back from 11 nights at this wonderful hotel. I think people forget this is a Spanish holiday hotel that has been added to during the years so has lots of foibles and idiosyncrasies. We booked and paid for a side sea view, and that is exactly what we got. We had the sun in the evening which was lovely. The staff are a delight especially Antonio in the dining room. In October to sit and enjoy a gin and tonic right by the water's edge without the need of a sweater and only 2/3 hours from the UK - magic.

My husband who has knee problems found the crazy paved walk into the town rather difficult but did not let it defeat him and mastered it every day. Next year hopefully he will run along it!!!

If I am being constructive I would have one suggestion - put all the dining staff on serving and clearing instead of getting them to collect napkins and glasses from the empty tables. Having said that, to request a streak cooked medium rare and get it served medium rare - unknown in most places.

From the front the hotel looks quite traditional and once you peek through the door and see straight out to the sea you are smitten! They gave us a very small room at first - in the roof with only a small attic window, but after discussions, we changes to a refurbished room on 3rd floor, which was amazing. The design is modern and trendy, good beds, great showers.
We only ate breakfast at the hotel, which is lovely - usual hotel breakfast buffet style. you can eat outside right on the water - stunning location to eat your toast! Having gone in October, there were either the over 60s or families with young children (mostly the older group) staying here (we were a group of friends)

The hotel is right on the stunning pine walkway to the town, which is a great stroll before and after dinner ( it literally couldn't be more perfect position). We strolled along this each morning to get to the beach too - which wasn't far. Small, but perfectly adequate, sunbeds and umbrellas and not too busy.

The only slightly negative element wold be that we went out very late one night, and had a little trouble getting back in, but eventually the night porter let us in.

All in all I would thoroughly recommend - I intend to return with my family - great location for children and the town seemed very child friendly.
