“Wonderful place, but the food, the food!”
Reviewed June 14, 2013

It's interesting reading the notes and reviews below. There is little mention of the food. Everything else was exemplary, fantastic location, great service, especially the front desk, rooms very comfortable and public areas great. The staff really were excellent. Outside bar excellent. Outdoor swimming pool on the small size, access to the Club Pollensa for a fee would be well worth it. Indoor pool very small. Wifi is hit and miss.

But we thought the in house Half Board food was really disappointing.
The a la carte area outside is not bad but very overpriced. And if you are HB you get a EUR12.50 discount. Starters around EUR12.00 and mains EUR20+.But the inside restaurant was awful. Overlit, cramped. The food was institutional. Carrots, chips, rice and bits of turkey on my plate. Vegetables tasteless. Queuing at the grill for the specials, while waiters nudged past you.I didn't know cooked salmon could be quite so bad and heavy and salty. Breakfast, you are queuing at machines generating beverages and orange juice. The service was fine, but the food, the food. I really wouldn't recommend going half board until this improves.

Room Tip: Go for the sea view. Rooms on East side, rubbish vans come at 4.00am - noisily!

We stayed at the Illa d'Or for four nights at the beginning of May. It was our second visit and we were delighted to find the hotel had retained the charm to which we were so attracted a few years ago. Everything about this place is first class - I cannot fault it! We shall be back next year, and the next...

Well worth the extra cost over other Hotels in the area.
We were in room 410 with a fantastic sea view which is one of the newly refurbished rooms (floors 3 and 4 are refurbished, 1 and 2 due to be refurbished 2013/2014 close season). Yes the rooms are a little small but perfectly adequate in our opinion, they are furnished to a very high standard throughout and are extremely comfortable, there is a free safety deposit box in the room. The little extra effort the staff take like turning the sheets down at night make it a special stay.
The cleanliness throughout the hotel is faultless, the place is immaculate, all the staff are all efficient and friendly.
Breakfast is buffet style, offering an excellent choice of English and Continental starting at 7.45. Evening meals are A La Carte served from 19.15, with a varied choice, 5 starters, 5 mains and 5 puddings were offered at each sitting, the food was excellent, or you could forgo either the starter or main and self serve from the Salad bar. Another option is to eat off the La Terresa menu, which is very extensive, you are credited with 12 euros 50 per person and you pay the extra according to your choice.
The drinks are not cheap, but not outrageous for the quality of the hotel e.g 2 Bacardi and Coke were 13.80 euros, 2 Coke 5.50 euros etc.
We chose to sunbathe on the terrace which was great, you are served to your sunbed with drinks and snacks, though the waiters are sometimes a little overworked, alternatively you can sunbathe at the lovely pool area, which is a little more sheltered from the wind.
The hotel does attract an older clientele and there are not too many children, the evening entertainment at the hotel is geared up towards it's older patrons, so we went into the town at night. which is around 10 to 15 minutes walk along the beautiful pine walk to the center of Peurto Pollensa.
In the town itself if you like large measures try Bony in the bottom left hand corner of the square, price wise Nostalgia is very reasonable, they also provide entertainment from 22.00, which is the same each night and at times a little corny but a good night out overall. Mulligans put on Rock and Roll and Elvis nights which are a little to be desired, O Hara's also put live acts on at the weekend, who are probably the best on offer entertainment wise.
Overall an excellent hotel and we enjoyed a wonderful stay there.

Room Tip: Pay the little extra for the sea view.

We are relatively well travelled and like the finer things in life when we are on holiday. We have visited most of the island but now gravitate to Puerto Pollenca for its atmosphere and general ambience. There is a good choice of quality restaurants and hotels in this area and visitors seem to be mainly couples and families.
We could find nothing to find fault with at the Hotel Illa Dor. There is clearly a strong Management structure which pervades through the hotel staff.
From the moment that we arrived to the moment that we departed, our stay there was one long luxurious delight. Each member of staff who we encountered, were without exception, extremely polite, helpful and went the extra mile to ensure that ourselves and other guests were catered for in every detail.
On our arrival, which was earlier than the check in time, we expected to be permitted to leave our cases in a security room until our room was available. Instead we were allowed to go straight to our room, which appeared to have been allocated to fit in with our flight times, in that the room had not been occupied the previous day. We had room 401, apparently one of the best standard rooms, with a view of the mountains to one side and the sea to the other. The accommodation was spotless and well appointed.
Breakfast was an event in itself. Every possible item that you could imagine was available, fresh and well presented. The range and the quality of the fruit was amazing along with the cooked fare. It was fantastic to eat a leisurely long breakfast seated feet away from the gently lapping sea, with the ever attentive waiters or waitresses providing regular top ups of tea and coffee.
We used the outdoor pool and the heated indoor pool and like everything at this hotel, it was spotlessly clean.
We did not eat an evening meal at the hotel so we could not comment on the evening food, but we had lunch several times, either at the sea terrace bar or the sea terrace part of the restaurant. Again the standards were high and the costs were much less than we would have expected to pay.
We did enjoy several cocktails before going out to dinner in the evenings, made by the Head Barman, Jose Martin who obviously took great pleasure and pride in producing delightful concoctions. We can recommend the Illa Dor Specials but warn you against drinking more than a couple in an evening.
Gregorio Hernandez, Antonio Berdun the two bar Waiters who were ever present, seemed to have a sixth sense and were always there just as you wanted another drink or just to settle the tab.
Our room was made up in the mornings and then at night, freshened up again with chocolates laid next to the pillow with a written weather forecast for the next day.
A nice touch was the provision of a courtesy room to allow guests departing in the evenings to have the facility of having a shower in a dedicated room with fresh towels.
It was our first time staying at this hotel and we enjoyed it so much that we would not now stay anywhere else in Puerto Pollenca. The Hotel is not the cheapest place to stay in The resort, but you get what you pay for and for us, it was worth every penny. The hotel was more of a five star quality rather than the four that it holds. Fellow guests were a mixture of young families and couples to older couples clearly enjoying their stay.
The beach by the sea terrace is sandy, clean and safe to swim in even for toddlers.
We are already planning our next visit here later in the year and could not recommend this hotel highly enough.

This attractive and well-maintained 4 star hotel sits on the coastal pine walk a pleasant ten minutes walk from the centre of Port de Pollenca. The public rooms sparkle and are spacious. It seems to boast every facility. The staff are friendly and helpful. Our bedroom was huge (though not all are) with a lovely sea view. The range of food on offer at breakfast was huge, catering for every taste and dietary whim. And yet... there was a lacking dimension.

The room had been recently refurbished in a pale grey imitation wood laminate with a laminate floor. It was furnished in the featureless bland could-be-anywhere international hotel style. This was a pity, because most of the hotel interior upstairs is in a delightful Spanish style with a range of fascinating paintings and photographs on the walls. Nothing was properly thought through. The two wash basins in the bathroom looked impressive... except that you had to squeeze past the toilet to reach the second one. There was no heated towel rail. In an unfortunately cool week in mid-May the room was very cold. The bed was large and very comfortable; the settee looked soft, but was as hard as a shelf. The double wardrobe was vast, but the hanging space was too short to hang a dress. There was free wi-fi, but much of the time it did not connect. On the couple of sunny mornings the small sun terrace in front of the hotel was full. The outdoor swimming pool is in the shadow of the building for nearly half of the day; the indoor pool is tiny dark and gloomy. The dining room is vast with tables rather too close together. Coffee at breakfast was served in the cup, generally only half full and often cool. Surely they could run to coffee pots? Fresh fruit was copious in quantity but always under-ripe. We had only one evening meal in the hotel. The choice was fair, the food bland but edible. The hotel prides itself on its gins and tonics, with a vast range of obscure and wonderful gins. But the drinks are served with a tiny dish of boring peanuts.

This hotel could be so much better if the facilities were thought through from a client point of view and the design of facilities went that extra mile.

I was leading a bike training camp and the staff at the Hotel Illa d'Or helped make the trip a huge success. They catered to all our needs, including those related to cycling. The rooms were refurbished, simple yet elegant and with nice seaviews. Some complained a bit about the noise but most of us on the trip would give two thumbs up! The breakfasts were superb, with great variety of fresh fruits, cereals, and typical English breakfast items (eggs, bacon, etc), fresh orange juice, some gluten-free and organic products, etc. After a day of cycling, we often relaxed on the terrace by the marina, clinking beer glasses while eating sandwiches. So why not a 5-star review? The dinners at the hotel were a bit dull (overcooked meats, same vegetables on every dish, etc) so we decided to go out each night. Also, the wifi rarely worked, which made business travel very frustrating and difficult. If access to wifi is not a big necessity, I would definitely recommend the Hotel Illa d'Or. There are plenty of great dinner restaurants within walking distance of the hotel!

A perfect two weeks where the staff were so helpful and provided excellent service. The refurbished rooms are cool, crisp and elegant and the views are stunning. An excellent location for walking into the Port of Pollenca or taxis would arrive in under 5 minutes to take you where you wanted, we went to Cap Formentor, Hotel Formentor and Pollenca. Lovely to stay in a hotel in Majorca with some history, built 1929 and enjoy waiter service in the dining room (a major factor for us when booking). The choices throughout the 2 weeks were excellent, using local and fresh produce. Gentle entertainment provided alternative evenings which was fine and the Spa was an added bonus. The outside pool and area is small compared to modern hotels but never crowded and sunbeds available whenever you wanted, also a well used lido at the front of the hotel over the sea. Very obvious why the hotel get a lot of repeat bookings. We will be joining their numbers!

Room Tip: As said previously, views are well worth paying extra for. My single room was bijou but I was fine...
