We stayed with our 2 sons (3&5) for 2 weeks (end June/beg July) It was our first time to stay here and we were delighted with the resort and the fantastic service from all of the staff but in particular thanks to Angie, Tolo & Danny. Our youngest son became ill on the second day and within 40 minutes the doctor had been to our room and Danny had personally driven us to collect the prescription.
The boys loved the entertainment and kids clubs and the Thompson Staff were terrific, energetic and cannot be praised highly enough. Play area was also very good for the younger kids.
We have already recommended it to friends and we look forward to visiting this resort again!

Room Tip: We were in block 2 which was away from pool area - Room 208/209 would be good

The team at this resort are to say the least Fantastic, they all work very hard.
Whatever they are paying the Thompson reps, Entertainment team, Restaurant staff and bar staff it is just not enough.
We are so untidy on holiday so I have to say the unsung heroes are the cleaners. Every single day our room was kept as clean as it was when we first walked in.
The food presentation and choice was very good, in-fact my only criticism was that the salt and pepper pots were the wrong way round – if I may make a suggestion fresh pancakes at breakfast would be a great option for the kids.
A big well done to Donna and Tolo in the restaurant, they made a big fuss of the kids at every opportunity – polite courteous and nothing is too much trouble.
The Playa Mar feels very safe which in turn allowed us to relax
A special mention to the children’s reps they work tirelessly to ensure the kids are entertained, their patience and resilience are a virtue and every parents saviour – too many to mention individually but thank you all!
The Manager Danny is approachable and very friendly (we even saw him picking up litter.).
We had a fantastic two weeks well done Playa Mar and well done Thompson!
We would definitely return to this hotel.

My wife and I along with our 2 daughters (2 & 5) stayed here for 2 weeks (July 2 -16). No need to repeat all the previous reviews as we agree with mostly everything positive stated. Our kids had a great time which matters most to us. The staff do work so hard and I do pity the poor person in the Thomson suit. Location - great and the Spar up the road is value and tasty. The pine walk was a favourite for us.
Sun bed/umbrella situation at hotel was in need of control. I like many others am an early riser but I found I had to place towels down earlier and earlier each morning ultimately hitting 5 am!! We only used 2 beds as kids don't need one.
Concern: I discovered that non-residents staying in other hotels and apartments close by were also reserving sun beds and on one occasion they only arrived back to use them at 2 pm. They had been reserved at 7 am!!

I have just returned from a family holiday at the Playa Mar Apartments, the fourth time staying there.

We had a fantastic time, the apartments and location offered something for all the family. Great swimming pool and entertainment for the children and lovely restaurants and cafe's for the adults.

The apartments and swimming pool area were always kept very clean and the staff were extremely helpful and friendly. I was in the unfortunate position of needing urgent medical care on the day that we were due to return home. I was extremely grateful for the personal care and help provided by the reception staff. Thanks to Sebastian and Daniel (who took the time to escort me to the hospital) I was able to make the flight home. I have never experienced such good care and kindness from staff at an accommodation catering for families.

We all had a great time and cannot wait to return next year.

Just came home from an 11 day break at the playa mar . We travelled as a family of 4 , children 9 & 5. We were self catering but upgraded to AI on arrival as it was great value and better than going through Thomsons. Can't praise Mar Hotel staff high enough from restaurant to bar and waiting staff , reception and maid service . Mar hotels clearly pride themselves in personalised customer friendly service and the staff deliver this . The entertainment staff worked their socks off but feel that Thomsons as a company should look at the types of butlins style entertainment material they give their staff as most of the guest I spoke to thought it was awful! Not the staff's fault at all they did the best with what they had and always were friendly and very competent . Used the drop in kids club a few times again staff were great , but felt over at the main kids club , a few of the staff could try and look as if they enjoyed their jobs at least !
Loved puerto pollensa and like I say hotel was great but have stayed at Mar hotels before and had a great time , but feel they should ditch Thomsons as they can run the show way better on their own.

Spent a week at this hotel from 6 to 13 July 2013. We have done this type of holiday many times over the last few years as it suits our family circumstances and this place has been one of the best. We didn't go all inclusive, and I was pleased that we were not treated like "poor relations". I have been other places where we felt like the only people without wristbands and the whole place is geared up to it but that was not the case here. It was easy to buy reasonably priced decent quality food and drinks at the pool bar (althought the food was only available at lunch times, would have been nice to get hot dogs etc at other times of day).

You can easily organise to pay for meals in the restaurant individually and we tried a breakfast and an evening meal. Both were excellent, really fresh food, great selection and not too much of the "school dinner" feel. Also it was not too big, there was no trouble getting a table, no queues, generally a pleasant experience. Our waiter suggested a really nice local wine that was quite reasonable, €5 for the bottle or something! The hotel had a scheme where you could buy the all inclusive for 1, 3 or 7 day blocks and I would definitely have considered this for a few days if we didn't have friends staying at different accommodation nearby. It was excellent value at around €30 per day for adults.

I do not think it would have been realistic to prepare much in the room apart from a very basic breakfast as the kitchenette was tiny, but fine for doing toast, cereal, cups of tea etc which we could have out on the balcony. Otherwise our room was perfectly adequate, enough space for us and a great shower. It was cleaned and beds made every day - even the roll out bed from under the sofa had been pulled out and completely remade every time. The aircon was not that great but good enough that we could sleep OK.

The pool and water slides are really amazing and would be a big hit with any kids of primary age or younger. Great facilities for toddlers too with lots of little slides and shallow places. We didn't use much of the onsite entertainment but the staff all seemed very enthusiastic and every so often they would come and lead aqua-aerobics dreased as roman centurions which was quite funny to watch!

The only negative about the hotel was that there is a severe lack of sunbeds by the pool and the hotel do not manage this effectively. You have to be down there by 7am to put a towl on one or they are filled up and we found it was after 4pm before there were any empty. Unfortunately rather than being reasonable and only using what you need, when you need it, many families seemed to "reserve" beds for the full day with a towel even when they were off site for hours. We saw families with kids taking beds for everyone when they were never all there at the same time and 2 that spent a whole afternoon occupied only by an inflatible crocodile! I don't think there would have been much of a shortage if only people actually present at the pool had been using beds. Other hotels have policies where they lift towels from beds that are unoccupied and Playamar clearly needs to do something like this. Unless you want to spend your entire day around the pool, I recommend planning to use it between 4-7pm as the sun is not as strong but it's still really warm and the pool gets a bit quieter, plus you get some beds.

Other than this one minor irritation, Port de Pollenca is still a fantastic place for a holiday, the Pinewalk is a great environment for kids, traffic free and this hotel is very conveniently placed and offers brilliant faciliites. I would definitely consider using it again.

Room Tip: Just tell the staff what you need and I think they will accommodate you. The complex is not too big...

Taken a while to write this but felt I needed to, spent 2 weeks at the playa mar in June as a family of 7 with our grown up children and grandchildren both aged 3. We holiday with Thomson and in Majorca regularly and have never been so disappointed as with this hotel. It is definitely not a four star and the comments about Butlins are true. From the day we arrived the air conditioning didn't work and never did despite numerous complaints, this also applied in the restaurant which made it almost unbearable to eat in. Our rooms were tired and in need of updating and cleaning properly. The children's entertainment was poor it didn't cater for all ages, most of the kids under 6 had no clue as to what was going on and were mostly in tears as it was far to loud for them, hard to get served at the bar if your all inclusive, paying customers got more attention from waiters .Towels round the pool by 6 in the morning, same cd playing on a loop every day round the pool, kids pool dirty and slippery, answer was to jet wash the edge whilst the kids played in the water.
Fire extinguishers all on red and fire doors wedged open with wood, need I go on Thomson
Don't get me wrong the staff at this hotel worked really hard, the food in the restaurant was superb every day, even with all inclusive we had plenty of choice over 2 weeks. The resort of Porta Pollensa and the pine walk were beautiful, because of this we had a fabulous holiday, as far as this hotel goes, alright for what it is but definitely not a four star and very much like Butlins which is not what we PAID for. Last year we stayed in Sa Coma in a Thomson 4 star, same sketch but far far superior in comparison, wish we'd gone back there, feel let down Thomson
