The Playa Mar is a perfect family holiday for relaxing with young children. The hour long transfer from the airport is a bit tedious but Puerto Pollensa is a resort well worth the journey. We have just returned from a fantastic weeks holiday with our 4 year old and 16 month old. Only booked a week as weren't sure how the children would cope with the heat, but wish now we had booked longer. Cava on arrival, amazing friendly helpful staff (the manager actually carried all our suitcases to our room!) and spotless accomodation. The rooms can get quite hot but as we stayed on the top floor we left doors open all day to let the breeze through and then let the air con do it's (albeit minimal) thing at night. You do have to make sure the doors (and window if you are on an end room like we were) are closed tight to make sure the air con works. The buffet style restaurant was fantastic with a huge and different choice every day and a separate little buffet bar for the children with 'simpler' dishes. Chocolate fountains every night went down well too! The pools are lovely and clean and the slides are lots of fun for the kids (the crab slides are great for adults too!) but they are a bit cold. You do adjust to them quicker on a really hot day but it would have been nicer if they were a little warmer. It took the kids about 10 mins to get accustomed and get under the water. There are a lot of sunbeds but if you want any right by the pools you do have to head down pretty early in the morning with a towel to reserve them (despite the hotel notices stating you shouldn't do it). Thomson the dog's appearances were thrilling for the kids, but for a large company, we thought the evening routine could have been a little more polished and Thomson doesn't stay on stage for long.

Puerto Pollensa is a beautiful resort and the choice of little sandy beaches or the bigger stretches of sand are perfect for little ones. The clear blue water and the backdrop of the mountains make a beautiful scene. Lots of cafes and restaurants along the front, would recommened Little Italy but you do need to make a reservation, sometimes a couple of days in advance. To get to the start of these seafront restaurants along the pine walk is about a 20 minute walk (or 30 mins if your little ones are on foot) so make sure you don't need to get anywhere in a hurry. A beautiful walk though. Alternatively the hotel can get a taxi within a couple of minutes and it only costs 5 euros to get the centre of the town by the marina.

The best holiday I have had in a long time and am already browsing the internet to see what prices are for later this year if not next!

Room Tip: There are 4 blocks, 2 on each side of the pool. You either get a pool view or a mountain view. I w...

We just returned from our week holiday staying at Playa Mar and I wanted to take the time to say what an excellent family hotel it is, we had a wonderful time and our 4 year old and 9 month old have thoroughly enjoyed themselves. The welcome on arrival was really friendly, cava for us and biscuits and fruit for the kids which was a nice touch. Our room was good, a very good bathroom, loads of towels and complimentary toiletries, our bedroom was a good size with a cot for our son and a roll out bed in the lounge for our 4 year old. There was a very small kitchen which was handy for us, always nice to have a fridge to keep some supplies as we were bed and breakfast not all inclusive so we tended to make up some lunch to have round the pool. The only small thing I would change would be ask for a pool facing balcony as our faced the side road which didn't make it appealing to sit out on, although we were so busy to be honest it was just used to dry towels and keep our pool bits anyway so not a major issue.

The pool was brilliant, our 4 year old was in his element with the crab and cow slides and our 9 month old loved paddling in the lagoon pool. There were loads of sunbeds and space around the pool, everyone does get the towels out early but this is a holiday norm so again, we just did ours before breakfast when we got up around 7:30 and were never disappointed with where we sat. There was a lot of entertainment from the team throughout the day but this wasn't too invasive if you didn't want to be involved and just wanted to do your own thing: there was aqua aerobics, an afternoon quiz, and games for adults and kids to get involved in, there was also a kids club which a lot of people used and said was great but we opted not to. Thomson the dog was out and about for dancing and photos each day, a huge hit with the kids and fun, we bought our own Thomson for 12 euros which I thought was reasonable and a great memory to bring back for our son.

Breakfast was probably the best breakfast buffet we have had on our trips abroad; a fabulous selection, plenty of choice and variety to fill you up nicely for the day ahead. The staff were very friendly and made sure the tables were clear and cleaned all of the highchairs to a very good standard with them set up at tables, with plenty available.

I am not a fan of buffet dinners so we went out every night along the pine walk to restaurants , if you have a toddler I would recommend hiring a buggy from reception otherwise you might end up carrying them home, as after a full day at the pool and a meal the walk back is too much, save your arms and hire a buggy, just 3 euros a day with a 30 euro deposit and we even got a brand new buggy! The pine walk is lovely but if you want to speed up the walk you can just stick to the road which runs parallel and cuts out the corner and is less rickety so saves a bit of time! We ate at Jokers, LeRoc which was a lovely Italian by Coral worth a trip, and a couple of the fish restaurants, all which were lovely but our favourite, and a bit closer to the hotel was Laguna pool bar and restaurant which was. Hidden gem and really chilled out, it is located about 5 mins from the hotel if you walk right out of the hotel and along the main road, not the pine walk. The owner is very friendly and the food is beautiful and it was a really good place to eat, we went twice and agreed it was our favourite place to eat over the week

We went to Fortimer beach which was about 15 euros each way by taxi, amazing views through the mountains and a lovely beach but make sure you walk up to left rather than stay near the ferry port as there is a lot of coming and going and restaurant wasn't all that for lunch, a far nicer bar further up. Was nice to come away from the pool for a day and enjoy a slower pace and more relaxed environment, although the loungers were 14.50 for 2 plus shade so quite a pricey day out with the cab ride, however worth it for beautiful views and to see more of the island and not just the hotel.

Entertainment at hotel in fhe evening was okay, not really our cup of tea, however our son loved it so we tried to get back each evening to see some and it was a nice opportunity to have a few drinks with people we had met. Most congregated around the kids play area which was great so you keep an eye on them but have a drink and chat with the kids playing in a safe area.

Overall it was a great holiday and if I came back to Port de Pollenca I would definitely opt to stay at Playa Mar again, the only downside was that we only booked a week and I wish we had booked 10 days. The staff are all great, Thomson staff friendly and fun with kids, breakfast was good too and pool area was perfect. you can upgrade to all inclusive on arrival (apparently cheaper than going all inclusive via travel agent) if you want to just for a day or whole week which offers flexibility

Very happy with our holiday choice

Room Tip: Try and get a balcony on the pool side not road side for a nicer view and if you have a toddler hire...

So if you are looking for a family holiday, where you are going to be looked after and in a clean and friendly atmosphere in great surroundings you can't go far wrong with this place. Look I'm sure there are things wrong and could always be i proved, however on the overall experience of my wife and our two kids a 3 year old madame and a one year boy we all loved it and wanted to book before leaving. On arrival we all got drinks and nibbles, check in was swift and effort less, the man called Marc was great and was very helpful with any queries during our stay. The rooms are spacious we had a one bedroom apartment and was big enough for all of us. We stayed in room 1301 and was on the 3rd floor facing the pool. You can hear the entertainment at night but our kids slept through it and was not over the top we actually kept the sliding doors open so we could hear it. Pools are great if a bit chilly but both our two little ones didn't mind and you got used to it after a minute. There are 3 for all different types paddling pool for toddlers, Giant animal one with slides and jets for the older kids and a larger pool for adults, this was very quiet as most people are lying on loungers or looking after their kids. There is an indoor pool but never went in. There is small play area with slides and climbing frame, there is also a soft play area under reception. Lots of activities for kids to do and all the staff are great. Special mention to Ashley from Thomson who was GREAT with my 3 year old getting her on stage and got her to sing a song for me the best part of the holiday, also would like to say thank you to the manager who I forget his name now but I asked if there were any Pharmacies open on a Sunday, his reply was that he would find out. He came back 2 minutes later and said there is one in Pollensa a 10 minute drive and said he would take me there in his car! Well just by this I seemed to get better already ( I had a cold prior to going on holiday). Food is good and could be improved on but for catering the mass it was good and fresh with plenty of choice and different choices every day. There is day entertainment every day during the day pool activities and quizzes, in the evening the big guns come out. Thomson the dog on stage all the kids loved him/her? the Thomson staff work really hard at entertaining the kids and our were shattered by 9 we had to follow the kids but could hear the adult entertainment from our balcony, the bingo sounded great and the bands and comedians sounded great too. The hotel is a 2 min walk from the beach but just a 15 minute walk down the picturesque pine walk are better beaches with shops, restaurants and all you need.

we have just returned from a week long holiday at this hotel with our 4 year old son. we thoroughly enjoyed it and so did he! hotel was spotless, staff were fantastic. we had booked self catering but upgraded to all inclusive and very glad we did food was amazing and the SC apartments kitchen area was tiny i would not have wanted to prepare any food. also, we didn't take a buggy and the restaurants in the town are quite a long walk for little legs! you can rent buggy's but we opted not to. pools were great although a little chilly early in the season! the beaches were amazing. there are quite a few small beaches very close by, but they are tiny. for about a 25 minute walk or a 5 min taxi journey you can get to the main beaches which are beautiful and the sea was lovely and warm, crystal clear and full of fish which our son loved! its also very shallow a long way out so perfect for young families. the taxi was only 5 euros. the hotel itself is so well catered for children it was amazing. our little boy went wild for thomson the dog as did every other child. we cannot fault this place for a holiday we would go back in a heartbeat. we didn't do any excursions as we just wanted to relax for a week but there are plenty of places to go. the area the hotel is in is very clean and pretty but there is not much to do apart from the beach. we went to the old town by taxi one morning which was pretty. if you have young children, i would highly recommend staying at playa mar - i think we will likely return if not to this hotel i would def try another thomson family resort again. if you are thinking of staying here do it you will not be disappointed!

Room Tip: we emailed the hotel before we went and asked for a quieter block away from the entertainment. we go...

Playa Mar is perfect for families with young children, we travelled as a party of 6 and I picked the playa mar as it is for families and I have a 2 and half year old son so the pools looked ideal. The pool does get busy and towels are on beds very early on the best spots, Thomson reps work hard to keep everyone entertained and the poolside quiz is popular Thomson the dog walks around which the kids love. Pool can be quite cold if slightly overcast but bearable.

Drink of cava on arrival which was a nice touch after travelling and reception staff very helpful at all times. Rooms pleasant with good amenities however we were self catering and unfortunately the cereal bowls were dirty from previous occupants with cereal and gone of milk stuck to them the smell was disgusting was very shocked, we informed reception straight away and the cleaning staff were at our door within minutes with new bowls and an apology so all was forgiven.

The Playa Mar is quite far from the resort which is its only downfall, when booking I thought it wouldn't be a problem but in the heat it can take its toll. Taxi from the main taxi rank to playa mar is 5 euros in the day 5.50 euros in the night.

When leaving the manager came out to say goodbye another nice touch makes you feel valued - great place!

Room Tip: Stayed in block 2 around the back very peaceful (room 207) great views of the mountains

Got back yesterday from a weeks stay at the playa mar hotel. My second visit to this hotel, it was brilliant the first time 2 years ago but can say its even better now. Staff are all fantastic, the food I would give it a 10/10 , hotel is brilliant, puerto pollensa is a beautiful place along the lovely pine walk. Would recommend this hotel. Will definitely be going back for a third stay at this hotel

First trip to Majorca as a family and had heard Port de Pollenca was idea- we weren't disappointed. We have a 4 year old son and chose the hotel as it has 2 splash pools and a kids club. The hotel pool is good but does need some heating up though towards the end of the week and in the afternoon it was bearable for adults- the kids didn't seem to mind. The staff really are first class in particular the cheery reception staff who gave us a great welcome. I would definitely recommend this to families upto age 8.The activity park is really good and a hive of activity in the evening. Food is OK for a week- not sure about 2 weeks. Block 4 is good and if you have a pool view I am sure you could get wifi from your balcony. Managed two evenings out alone without our son as the kids club looked after him- shame it was Sunday and Monday- would have preferred evening activities to be spread. Overall the litmus test is would we return and the answer is Yes.

Room Tip: Quiet room- 4304.
