“All Inclusive convert!”
Reviewed November 7, 2012

I have holidayed in this area of majorca nearly all my life. We usually book direct at nearby 4+star hotels & get flights independently. Having recently been on a very expensive holiday in August, I thought I would book Playa Mar and use it as a base for my sons half term. I opted for all inclusive.
What can I say...the staff were great, Donna (head waitress in restaurant) looked after us from the start. The rooms are lovely with flat screen tv, small kitchen, large balcony. The food was absolutely fantastic (and I am fussy) and we loved it so much that we didnt want to eat out!
Entertainment team were fab, with something for everyone from quizes to water polo but without being in your face.
Playa Mar is situated at the far end of the Pine walk 5 mins away and walking distance to Puerto Pollensa.
We had a lovely holiday and cannot fault a thing, met some great people and I for one will definately be returning!

We have stayed here twice and would book again. We didn't use the restaurant 2nd time around as the food was a little disappointing on the first visit. The rooms and pool areas are very good value for money if you book at the right time. The location is great as it's 200 yards from the waterside "pine walk" which is a 15 minute stroll into the centre of Port de Pollenca. The indoor pool and Spa centre is also very nice if your unlucky to get some bad weather.

We stayed here for the last week of October and had a thoroughly enjoyable time. We booked the hotel direct and got a very good deal on the website. Check in was easy and we were able to pay upon arrival. The complex is clean and the staff can not do enough to help. This was evident on our first night when there was a power cut. Despite this, the restaurant and bar staff still ensured everyone was looked after.
The rooms contain enough storage for a family of four, with a small kitchen area and flat screen tv. It was a pleasant surprise to find a steam iron and table top ironing board in the wardrobe. WiFi is available in the main reception area and is free to connect to.
The pool area was clean and the indoor pool and spa is a good facility. Children are able to use the indoor pool from 12-4, although everyone must wear a swimming cap.
The food in the restaurant was of good quality with a separate evening buffet for the children. It is the only hotel I have stayed in where there is always a dedicated vegetarian section. The variety of food is vast, with fresh pizza and pasta every day.
The entertainment team ( employed by Thomson) worked hard, although we did find that our children were not included some of the time as we had booked directly through the hotel.
The hotel is a 15 minute walk from town by the pine walk, although this is a pleasant stroll and our children aged 7&5 had no problems with this each day.
Overall we had a fantastic time at the hotel and would not hesitate to return. This is definitely a hotel we would recommend for families.

Just back 4th November from a half board break in playa mar. What a fantastic time we had. Weather was a bit mixed but for the time of the year I didnt expect it would be great. We had 3 lovely sunny days. My son has special needs and I found the place really suited him. As the hotel was winding down for winter closure it was very quiet and he had the downstairs soft play area and outdoor playground mostly to himself. He has difficulty with crowds. He was pretty noisy and messy in the restaurant, but the waiting staff didnt take much notice of him at all which was great. Also the first floor balcony was very secure for him. The ground floor balcony could easily be climbed by a child. The food was great, ate way too much during the week, there was something for everyone in the restaurant. Apartment was a good enough size but if I was self catering I think I would have found it difficult in the tiny kitchen area, which was fine for making a cup of tea and a sandwich. Outdoor pools too chilly for us and I was a little disappointed with the indoor pool, it was cool enough and only had a small shallow part and then was about 7 ft deep so wasnt suitable for my son or husband who isnt a great swimmer. Kids are allowed in the jacuzzi which was warm and we took full advantage of that. The nearby pine walk was lovely and we went there a couple of times a day. We hired a car and did a bit of travelling, getting around was easy, there wasnt much traffic and the roads are in good condition. I really cant fault this holiday or the staff and hope to return some day.

Upon arriving at the hotel we were very impressed at the entrance and overall look. It was late and we expected to be able to get a drink at the very least. However we found ourselves almost begging for water from the receptionist to see both my husband and I plus our two young children through the night. This was a disappointing start to our holiday as following on from this I noticed that all other day arrivals had fresh fruit, cava and juice upon arrival-how much would it of cost to put a bottle of water in our room?.
This aside I can say that we had a fab time. The weather was gorgeous too. The rooms were clean and well kept (apart from mould around the bath area). The staff at the pool bar were very professional and made us feel very welcome-the food was lovely too. Great entertainment from Markus-he was a real credit to Thompson.
Fab time had by all...beware though...make sure you either take your inflatable back to your room or leave it floating in the pool because any left on the side will be popped by Tony (regardless)-much to my sons disappointment and upset. They were however replaced but we were made to feel like it was our fault by the Thompson site manager (young man mousy spiked hair). Great hotel-gorgeous pool and lovely staff we will return soon.

Just returned on 1st Nov after a week stay on all inclusive, had a great time even though the weather was not that good ( power cut after thunder storm but still all staff happy and helpful !!! - like they were all our holiday) Rooms comfortable and well equipped with maid service every day and clean towels. Pools good fun for the children especially the crab slide! and the cow slide for younger ones. The indoor spa was fabulous and free to use unless you wished to have a treatment with the children being allowed in from 12-4pm.

Entertainment was quite good some nights, usual Abba and Motown acts - the Thomson team were good with the children with activities running throughout the day . Our teenage son made loads of friends joining in these and they enjoyed the game of Man hunt on the last night with Carlo joining in too!!!

Food in the restaurant was really good with plenty of choice and all the waiter staff were very helpful and happy . Left at 6.30am but tea, coffee and snacks made available to us which was much appreciated.

Nice walk into Puerto pollensa along the pine walk which took about twenty minutes, plenty of bars and restaurants along the way but most closed at this time of year. The beach and sea were very clean.

Free wi-fi in reception widely used by many guests.

All in all a great half terrm break and would return to the hotel.

Room Tip: If you want sun on the terrace in the evening with pool view rooms ask for blocks three and four.

We really enjoyed our holiday at this hotel. The staff were really friendly and helpful and we thought the maids coming in every day to clean and make up the beds was amazing. The facilities were excellent. The kids loved the swimming pool, great slide area down a big crab for older kids 6+ and then another smaller area for 5 and below with slides through a giant cow and pelican! Both our girls loved them! The kids clubs were excellent and we thought the Thomson reps were brilliant, there were 3 different clubs per day and some combined the ages which meant that both our kids could go together. The range of activities was good but the staff made the clubs more enjoyable, we knew all the reps names by about the first day! The evening entertainment was ok, you know you were not going to get professional acts so you weren't disappointed! The food was excellent we were very impressed by the range, even though we were all inclusive you had different selections every day. There was so much included from snacks to drinks also that we didn't have to pay for anything else. The pine walk to the beach is lovely and well worth the short walk to get the marina and shops that were just a bit further than the beach. We tried an excursion one day to marine land which was a little disappointing, as it was very small and you could have walked around it in about 10 mins, having said that the dolphin show and seal lions and parrot shows were great esp. for the kids. The last night we treated ourselves to the pirate adventure which is raved about in Majorca, it is very expensive however I think worth the money as it was a spectacular show of acrobatics and amazing feats of strength. Great, great hotel would definitely go back again.
