If you dont have small children dont stay here! if you do travel with kids it is a very pleasant hotel.

The waterslides and kids pools are excellent as is the kids club ( free 2 hrs a day ). Sunbeds are a little close together but a minor inconvenience really. We found half board suited us very well giving us the option of eating out or eating at the hotel and going out for a drink in the town.

The rooms are very clean, simply furnished and more than spacious enough.

We missed the evening entertainment and went into the port every evening, its about 15 minutes walk but very picturesque. There are enough places to eat out to suit all budgets but you will pay considerably more for a sea view.

If you are self catering a good tip is to shop at the Eroski supermarket in town, you will pay less than half of the Hotel shop prices!

The pine walk into town can be a little bumpy for pushchairs but well worth it, there are small coves lining the route into town with people fishing and swimming well into the evening.

Beer is fairly expensive but wine cheaper than in the UK ( around 2 Euros a glass in a bar ) find a local bar off the main drag and you will be very surprised at the price drop from the seafront places

In a nutshell, a very clean, well run hotel aimed totally at parents with young children. If you want piped music, minimalist decor and haute cuisine dont stay here! If however you want a fun time for your kids in a safe, entertaining environment you wont find many better hotels for the price.

Great holiday in fantastic location and we are already looking to book for next year
Plus Points
Cleaniness, staff so friendly and helpful. Splash pools were fantastic for our 4 year old who loved them. Air conditioning was useful. Pine Walk is a must and is very scenic.
The following is not a big issue, but some points of slight disappointment which may be rectified before the season finishes which would truly make it into a superb experience.
Limited number of beds and even fewer sun umbrellas around the pool which was disappointing as there were many families had to do without. When the Thomson Rep was requested to do something she retorted that some had been ordered, but the wrong bases were delivered. As a result most of all the parasols were taken by 08:00, so be up early if you want an umbrella.
Food for children was a very poor and unhealthy, but our youngster ate from the adults options.
I can envisage challenges for the staff policing the Crab Slide when older children arrive in the school holidays, as inflatable boats etc were used on the slide. An accident waiting to happen.
Overall would definitely recommend

We arrived back today from a lovely week of relaxation at this delightful 4* hotel in the very scenic Port de Pollenca! We chose a good week to go as weather was beautiful. We stayed in block 4 on the top floor with a poolside view, which is what we requested. To be fair the entertainment was loud but being so far away was faint however finished at around 11 anyway and bar closing shortly after at around 11:30.

ACCOMIDATION: The accomidation was clean, neat and tidy and this says something coming from us as we are quite fussy! It was fresh and airy being a 1 bed apartment. The maid service was fab, towels being changed on a regular basis even the day before we left! Kitchenette was very small but adequate having a microwave and kettle etc

ENTERTAINMENT: Jonny Rocks, Becci Boo and Fab Fay put in 110% effort and have a ton of energy! My only concern i would have with the entertainment is that as my daughter is 11(almost 12) felt that there wasn't much to get involved in with her age as there was activities for 3-11 year olds then over 16s, nothing for 11-16 year olds. Cash prize bingo keeps everyone on the edge of their seats and the professional acts were wonderful.

POOLS: There is a lovely pool in the shape of a 3-leafed clover alongside with a crab slide pool with 3 slides coming out of the crab for ages 6-12 and a squirrel slide and water features pool for ages 1-6. Fun for all he family whatever your age!

FOOD: We travelled as an ALL INCLUSIVE package, food was GORGEOUS and what a variety, it was out of this world! The only thing is that if you go to the poolside bar the only thing that is free for all inclusive people are drinks and a childrens ice-lolly or a mini milk! You can however purchase crisps, chips, burgers etc. Right next to the hotel is a mini-market where you can pick up any bits and bobs at quite high prices. The waiters and waitresses in the resteraunt and bar were lovely, they were efficent and EXTREMELY friendly!

PINE WALK: The pine walk was a lovely, scenic walk with beautiful views. Lots of little bays to stop and sit in with the main beach not very far along. Opposite the beach are bars, resteraunts, beach shops, supermarkets and other shops. It is so beautiful walking along the seafront in the evenings. The pine walk runs parelell with the clear seas!

OVERALL EXPERIENCE: I would recommend this hotel for families. We will definately be travelling with Thomson again in the future. We were pleasantly surprised when we went to wait for the bus in the morning to find that we could go in to the resteraunt. When we went in at around 6ish we saw all drink machines left on and food carefully wrapped in clingfilm on plates for us. When we came on TripAdvisor after booking this holiday here we got rather nervous and concerned about coming seeing some negative reviews putting us off, however it was the complete opposite to what we had been expecting.

If you have gotten this far, thank you very much for reading and enjoy your stay here!

Room Tip: Top floor with a pool view either block 1 or 4

This was our 4th visit at the Playa mAr and we eagerly looked forward to this years visit after spending the last 3 months practising the Thompson the dog songs and dances with my 4 yr old daughter.

Everything started fine until we arrived at the hotel to find that there had been major changes in the close season.
The outdoor stage area has now gone and been replaced by a massive crab and squirrel /cow slide feature which looks really weired if you have been here before.
All down one side of the cows water edge has a make shift foam on top of the tiles as the edge is too close to the slide with kids coming down the slide and hitting the edge of the pool.Health and safety has gone out of the window on this feature.

Anyone looking forward to the aqua splash can forget it,despite many many requests from a lot of return guests they just blamed the hotel for not providing an anchor? Most guests just believed it was a feature they no longer wanted to do anymore.

They built a new bar and entertainment block were the tennis courts used to be which is a great shame as it has a built up feel now and block 2 is now facing this massive building rather than overlooking the courts.

The two weeks we were there the entertainment block was hardly used by the adults as everyone prefered to sit outside and not inside the new building.

This made the entertainers life a nightmare as the renound Playa Mar atmosphere had disappeared as hard as the entertainers tried.
A plus note is that Leo is till there as there has been quite a few staff changes

On another note Thompson have had this crazy idea and decided that Thompson the dog has now grown up and is now TTD,he has apparently won the Rex factor (try explaining this to a 4 yr old who knows all the old songs)
The old Thompson the dog could not talk so this ecouraged the reps to ad lib etc and was more interative however TDD now stands on the stage on his own whilst the reps just put a cd on with a few of his new songs playing away whilst pretends to sing into a mike, there is no interaction as not one person including the reps can remember the songs.

Childrens club was as always brilliant with Rachael and Emma leading the way,no complaints here they were great.

This is the 1st year the Playa Mar has gone all inclusive with a mixture of self catering, this has led to two things happening.

The food quality has plumitted especially for the kids unless your kids like potato alphabets for breakfast lunch and dinner,I kid you not it was appalling compared to previous years.

The other thing that has happend is that even though you have your rist band on you are constantly questiuoned what your room number is as though they suspect you of getting something for nothing which is a pain.

As always the staff in the dining room were eccellent with Donna still leading the way,I just felt sorry for them as they were getting all the complaints.

As the Playa Mar has repotedly a 75% return rate you would have thought Thopmson would have been so kid to let everyone know about the changes to the hotel and the entertainment?

I am undecided on whether we will be going back next year which is sad as I enviaged myself returning year after year unttil my daughter reached at least 10 yrs of age.

Room Tip: I wouldsay blocks 1 and 3 are the best now due to

Just back from a week at the Playa Mar, our group consisted of 6 adults and two children (3 years old).

Hotel was great especially the pool areas, they have recently built a giant crab with internal waterslides (for 6-12 year olds) but us adults and many others were enjoying them too!, and then there is a cow/squirral/bird which jets out water fountains and has numerous smaller slides for the younger ones, absolutely great for keeping the children amused.

We had the usual couldn't get a sunbed around the shallow end of the pool unless you got up at 6 am but I am pleased to advise that whilst there a big noticed went up stating that any towels on beds before 9 am would be removed by staff and everybody seemed to adhere to it so all was well.

We went All Inclusive and the food couldn't be faulted, great selection, very tasty and freshly cooked, hasten to add we all came back a few pounds heavier! The waiters were incrediably friendly and very helpful and always showed you to a table and the restaurant was light, airy and very modern and lovely views to the pool area and mountains in the background.

Jonny Rocks & Becci Boo are ace and make the daily entertainment, we found even the daytime adult activities you were not forced into anything or made to feel uncomfortable therefore people tended to join in more freely. Whilst there we saw Mamma Mia, The Jacksons & a acrabtic show all very good, although not 02 arena standards for holiday entertainment sitting round the bar most enjoyable.

Kids Club Tiny Tots:
2 hrs (11-12 pm weekdays 9-11 am weekends, Thurs closed) of bliss for us adults as the kids were entertained in a purpose built/air conditioned room (some hotels kids clubs previously have been outside), so it was good that the kids were out the sun for a while, great staff who really seem to care. You do have to go to reception the night before at 6.15 pm to put your childs name down for the next day's attendance but this was no problem & as soon as you arrive you need to fill out a form for them to attend, it was very popular and spaces could be limited in heigth of season unless your quick.

1 bed apartment was clean, not huge but adequate, we were in Block 1 overlooking the pool area 2nd floor (which is the top), block 4 was opposite, these two blocks are furthest away from the entertainment, but to be fair it all stopped by 11.30 pm and even if we were in bed before then it wasn't loud, Blocks 3 & 4 got the afternoon sun on the balacony. Kitchen area was small but we only used the fridge so not a problem for us. Bathroom good size, note: take your own hairdryer the one provided has little power!

Beach/Pine Walk/Square:
The first small stretch is a couple of minutes walk away and lovely for small children as the water is shallow and very clear, beaches are dotted all along Pine Walk and as many reviews say it is a lovely walk, so scenic, a nice 25 min stroll after dinner along there to the main square where there are plenty of bars and resturants to sit at and people watch. The best thing about Puerto Pollensa is its not chavy or crass, its got a certain class so if you want loud English bars and bingo calling tribute pubs and clubs this place is not for you!

Take the bus (return adult fare 2.10 euros children free) to the market (10-1pm) on a Sunday to the Old Town is beautiful well worth a look, beware the last bus back is 2.15 pm miss that and the next is 4.15 pm (we did a cab back cost us 11 euros!) also stand at the front of the stop to get on there can be some pushing and shoving!

I was told by Jonny Rocks that once the indoor pool and spa area are finished by next year this hotel will be Thomson's No. 1 family resort and yes I quite agree I think it will!

Apparently the indoor pool area closed at Xmas for refurbishment but Thomson only sent us a letter advising us of this 3 days before our depature, the brochure still states the indoor pool area as available, lucky for us we had really hot weather but the week before they had a week of bad weather so I would not have been best pleased with Thomson!

The only improvements for us would have been as all inclusive guests to be allowed to eat at the pool side bar for lunch, 3 meals in the restaurant per day just sometimes a change of scene would have been good & for the hotel to provide pool side towels saving on carrying extra luggage.

All in all a fab holiday and we would all highly recommend it.

We loved this holiday very much. We have an infant 20 months and the pools were perfect for him. We did intend to use the creche but didn't really need it. We did 10 days all-inclusive and would recommend anyone staying here being at least half-board, if not all inclusive when booking. The food was very good quality and plenty of choice even though only one restaurant. The dining room was spotless and the staff were amazing, nothing was too much for them anywhere in the hotel. Pleased with room and layout, plenty of storage. Didn't use kitchenette other than making a coffee but everything you would need was there.
We were there during term time so nearly everyone had infants so not sure i'd like it if it was filled with school / teen kids as it would become very load and boisterous. The entertainment in the evening was very poor. Actually It never felt like we were being entertained just someone on a stage talking or singing rubbish songs to the starring tweenies wanting to dance and see Thomson The Dog. Only think for adults was bingo!! the world stopped for bingo at 9.30pm, which was when we always went back to the room to get away from it. The entertainment really let the side down.
Pine walk was lovely in the morning (running) and evening with the little beaches all along to paddle in and bars to while away the hours gazing at the sea.
There is nothing directly near the hotel so be prepared to walk 20/25 minutes to a bars and restaurants.
We had an outside room facing the road (block 3) which could be noisy during the day but quiet at night. Friends had poolside room and found the entertainment quite loud in the evening and not much privacy during the day to sit out.
Would recommend this hotel to anyone with children under 5yrs. Not sure we will return as we never do go back to same place but there is not big negative stopping us.
