Grate tapas. Grate ambience Service excellent. I have been visiting Pollenca for over 10 years. We always have at least one meal at the Ivey Garden. Billy the owner has alway made us feel most welcome. Gods value

“Good food, let down by poor service”
Reviewed October 2, 2013

I feel I want to put in a good word for the Ivy Garden, as we had some really good food here, but agree wtih some of the comments about the service.

The setting is a pleasant courtyard in the back of the building, but we somehow felt that our presence there was not valued. The waitress (possibly the manager's daughter?) began by asking us what we wanted to drink, but there was no drinks menu. We said we'd prefer to order food first, but it was some time before the blackboard was dumped down beside us. There seems to be only the set menu (with choices), at about 19.50 euros, I think, but this isn't really explained. Then when we asked about wine, we were told there was only the house wine, but the price wasn't mentioned until we asked (it's 12 euros).
The atmosphere seemed tense and hectic, although there wasn't a lot actually going on. We had to wait quite a while, during which the manager put two little slices of tortilla in front of us to make up for the delay, but this was done in a charmless, rather grudging way.
But when the food came, it was very good. The "garlic prawns" turned out to be big fat crayfish, which my husband was very happy with. My duck breast with soy sauce was freshly cooked and delicious. There was no choice of dessert, which was a slice of chocolate brownie. My husband asked if he could have his with ice cream rather than cream, but this was not available.
So, a bit of a mixed bag here. Good food and good value, but let down by sloppy and half-hearted service.

“"Ivy but not quite poison"”
Reviewed October 1, 2013

From the outside it looked inviting, little did we know that once inside we would experience the worst ever service. The waitress was disinterested throughout, chewing gum. The olives arrived, and when my husband asked for a receptacle for the stones, she handed us an ashtray. She then proceeded to stand a chalk board on a chair, with set menus, obviously, to save on printing costs. Only three choices of wine were on offer, white, red and rose. We ordered liver and steak, both arrived within two minutes. we left after twenty.the only thing that saved the evening was talking to a very pleasant couple from Scotland.

“Interesting concept badly executed”
Reviewed September 26, 2013

Thought this place looked interesting and different to regular restaurants. Food wasn't too bad but we were heckled in and told to chill out when we asked to see a menu which, when it reluctantly arrived was old testament/tablet of stone style whacked onto table seat.

The concept here seems to be 'Sit, Trust and let us feed you' which actually is an interesting concept but not when accompanied by offhand waiting staff and flippant attitude. Not bad food but could do with a management overhaul!

“It's quirky but good”
Reviewed September 17, 2013 via mobile

The bad reviews are unfair and I'm not sure who the gastronomic experts are that slate a business that produces very fresh food at a great price.
The place is lovely and is a must for people who want real Spanish food and atmosphere.
The service can be a little slow and the wine selection is none existent. But it's good wine and great value and the staff are excellent.
Get real all those want to be food critics.
