“Never judge a book...”
Reviewed June 25, 2014

On first appearances, this roadside restaurant looks pretty basic and not too impressive. The food, however, is excellent and the service friendly and very fast. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because it a bit chaotic inside, with people/waiters milling about, chatting and debating with each other, while you are trying to enjoy your meal. Not the most relaxing place, and definitely not romantic. Great food and very reasonably priced.

“big expectations, but think we have to come back”
Reviewed October 19, 2013

We were having big expectations about this restaurant, the buffet was supposed to be wonderful on saturday evening, so we booked a table. The buffet did not look very fresh to us, when we were there nobody ate from it. The staff was busy, we felt a bit forgotten. We took instead of the buffet a pizza, which was ok. We missed attention and that is still something we like, when we are in a restaurant. They say you should have the steak fiorentino here, maybe we come back and try that dish.

“Geliefd restaurant/pizzeria in prachtige omgeving”
Reviewed September 18, 2013

Restaurant with big outside terrace has excellent kitchen (Cinghiale!) and best pizza's in the region. Friendly people (a.o. Dominico) and very reasonable prices. Quality of the dishes is high. Loved by Italian people and families as well as tourists. Location is along the road from Gambassi Terme to Volterra / San Gimignano Via Volterrana nr 2, place called Castagno di Val d'Elsa

“too poor even though it was just lunch time at fixed price”
Reviewed September 3, 2013

I spent a summer holiday driving by and constantly looking at the place quite often full of customers for both Dinner and lunch.
Just the very last day, we decided to finally go there and enjoy their cuisine and their atmosphere, unfortunately with a not outstanding feedback.

Lunch on a “ MENU fisso” with also a reasonable variety of choices , coffee not included though. the cost itself wasn't bad, 11€ for the area is was very appealing . for that i realy loved the DEAL, but don't dare not to go for everything ...

Risotto alla salsiccia was the first of the two main courses I picked, then a lonely Salsiccia with salads in a separate bowl to follow wasn’t’ the best choice ever. My wife on the other hand decided to go for just “il secondo” going for a simple tuna salad with onion and bins: bad choice. You could have said that each single ingredient was just coming out of a Tin . it still had the taste of it.

Now, I understand I could have gone unlucky with the menu, the day ( the place was half empty unfortunately ) and also charged 7€ for just half of a Menu even though it was a simple salad, but the coffee… neither in piazza San Marco in Venice, nor in piazza Navona in Rome I paid a coffee at the counter 1.50€ ... ;-) . I think that was an exaggeration. And it wasn’t even a good one : burnt and watering. well, i hope it was just a bad day for me , but please Check out your coffee machine and please do change your coffee reseller.

Average , actually below expectation considering the great , nice old style entrance got it out of a a former Tabaconist.

Ciao, Epi

“Great for pizza”
Reviewed August 29, 2013 via mobile

Very friendly atmosphere which is good for families. I would say stick to the pizzas as they were by far the best and they did take away pizzas as well. Their other dishes were also good but not quite up to the pizza dishes.
