I stayed here recently over a weekend, and ended up with the entire place to myself - it seems that it generally attracts more of a weekday business crowd. I found it a very pleasant stay all in all - the room was large and very comfortable with a nice deck overlooking the valley, the house itself is also very well designed with separate eating and lounge areas inside, as well as a nice pool and deck area leading out - would be perfect on a sunny Durban summer afternoon. Breakfast was pretty impressive as well, and part of the room rate. I also very much enjoyed the little touches - the personal message on the chalkboard outside was great.

On the con side of things, not much to mention - the wireless seems to keep cutting out and signal was very difficult to get on my phone in my room (although since I was the only guest I could leave the door open, which seemed to help), and bizarrely, the temperature of the hot water seemed to decrease over the course of the stay - my Monday morning shower was ice cold. I would also suggest some literature about the area (pubs, restaurants, shops, etc) might be useful for guests who are unfamiliar with the area.

Overall though, great value for money, and would really recommend it.

Room Tip: The Deck Room has a great view from its relaxing balcony, but it seems that WiFi signal is not as st...

I tried Ntengu because of the TripAdvisor recommendations and wasn't let down at all. The staff are friendly and welcoming without being too obtrusive. The rooms are lovely and well equipped. Best of all was the delicious breakfast - gourmet food that got my day off to a great start. Ntengu will certainly become my new regular basr when I come to Durban.

Ntengu lodge is very neat and is located in an eye-catching scenery with fine flora. It is well mounted and I liked the short drive uphill. The room(s) is/are large, the bathroom is gleaming and the space is impressive. Andrew and his staff's service is suitable. The lodge really provides real value for money. The composure is outstanding and the candles provided add to the serenity. What a peaceful sleep! I would like to experience the Ntengu lodge hospitality again.

Although they claim not to specialize in dinner, I had a delectable meal and breakfast was also very enjoyable.

I stayed at Ntengu Lodge twice during the World Cup and it was by far the best accomodation I stayed in during one month in SA.

The large air-conditioned rooms are spotless and individually decorated. Everything is very well attendend. Andrew is the most helpful host who provides you with his service virtually day and night. His staff is also very kind and attentitive. They serve very creative and tasteful breakfast variations of English breakfast.

The windows in the dining hall and living room to the deck are almost always open and you can move freely through the whole welcoming complex. It takes you three steps from your deck room into the swimming pool that is surrounded by african plants.

The lodge locates in a quiet and beautiful green residential neighbourhood outside the city centre of Durban. It is about a 10 to 15 minute taxi ride from the centre/beach front (150 ZAR). The area is perfectly safe and you can walk around (also at night) without worrying.

There is a small shopping centre within a five minute walking distance. There you'll find two supermarkets, an internet café, a gym that offers day passes, ATMs etc. There is also a beautiful restaurant (Nourish Café) and an Irish Pub.

A large shopping mall (Pavillion) is a 5 minute car ride away.

I highly recommend Ntengu Lodge!

The Ntengu Lodge is a 5 Star B&B located in the Westville area of Durban. This is a very safe residential area situated only 5 minutes from the N3 on th north side of Durban & only 15 minutes from the airport. There are some excellent restaurants within 5 minutes.
The property is owned & run by David Buchanan who is the most wonderful host. The rooms are very well appointed with extremely comfortable beds. Internet access is feely provided. There is a residents lounge which opens onto a considerable swimming pool. The views through the trees looking down over the City are spectacular.
David willingly provides advice on local restaurants & bars & makes all your reservations. His breakfasts are a wonderful work of art & very substantial.
This is a B&B which is well above the average, we highly recommend it.
