Situated close to the main road and near the ski resort the location is great. There is a shop close by, and some restaurants. Good parking space as well.

The hotel is rather old and certainly show signs of wear. The room was OK, not fabulous but functioning. One great disadvantage was that the window was towards a court yard and not towards the outside. Since we like to have it cold when we sleep, this was a drawback.

There are other negative things to add to this. But first let me say that the personnel are friendly and service oriented. The reception and the restaurant service was a treat, always with a smile and answering all questions and requests at once. The breakfast was very good. Especially we liked that they served fried eggs and omelets beside the traditional scrambled eggs. It is a much more happy start of the day. Dinner in the evening was also very decent. Good food and good service.

We talked to a couple of guests who keeps returning year after year, and we can see why.

There is also a large children´s indoor playground next door, which the guests of the hotel can use in the evening for free, with an entrance directly from the hotel. The children of course love it. True to Norwegian mountain vacation traditions, the hotel also has several spaces with sofas and tables, where the families can play cards or play games, have a coffee or a drink and just sit and talk and enjoy themselves.

Returning to the room I have single one wish, and that is that the hotel would spend some extra on the beds. It would just be great if they could replace the synthetic pillows and quilts with more comfortable materials. I don’t know, but I don´t think that would be such an overwhelming cost, it could ruin the hotel. It certainly would make the stay much better. Synthetics don’t breath, and waking up sweating is not nice.

On the whole an acceptable weekend hotel-wise. If you are not that sensitive to the material of pillows and quilts this is something for you. My advice is, however, to ask for a room with the window towards the outside, not the court yard.

We stayed here for six nights during our ski trip to the nearby Hafjell ski centre. Knowing how expensive Norway can be, we opted for the full board option - breakfast and evening meal at the hotel and lunch coupons for a selection of restaurants at the ski centre during the day. This proved to be fantastic value for money.

Breakfast is a self service buffet with hot options (bacon, eggs, beans, sausages, omelette, pancakes etc), continental options of cheeses, meats, bread, as well as yoghurts, fruit and cereals.

Lunch options were usually buffet service or pizza from Ryk & Reis, or pastas, burgers or meatballs at the Gaiastova and Lodgen restaurants . It’s worth knowing that if you opt to eat at Gaiastova (at the top of the mountain) but can’t get there because of ski lift closure or skiing ability, you can use the coupon at Lodgen or Ryk & Reis instead, staff were very helpful and understanding about this.

The evening meal at the hotel was superb - a set menu of three courses every day and really more food than two very hungry people can eat! We particularly enjoyed the elk stew, but the baked cod and beef carvery were also very good. We don’t have any dietary issues but the staff took care to check that we were happy with the menu and said that alternatives could be provided if need be.

Drinks are not included in the meal package (beyond hot drinks with breakfast or coffee in the evening) but free tap water was readily available in all restaurants and on the table in the hotel. If you do want an alcoholic drink, expect to pay around 90Kr for a pint of beer or a glass of wine anywhere in the area. Soft drinks such as Coke are around 45Kr.

Although some reviewers have described the hotel as being dated, with the exception of the corridor outside our room, I’d argue that this really isn’t the case. Public areas such as the restaurant and lobby were smart and looked recently decorated. Our room was small but comfortable, definitely adequate for two people. The decor was modern, although a little worn in places (chipped paint) but I think this was due probably to wear and tear during the ski season that the hotel had not yet had a chance to address. It is certainly better than many hotels we have stayed in, both in the UK and elsewhere.

We’d definitely recommend this hotel and would love to return in the future. Tusen takk to the staff for a lovely stay!

Lovely place, Nice facilitie- good for families. Easy check in, friendly staff. Entry and restaurant were nicely decorated. Room was tiny. Family room - 2 single beds and pull out sofa. Mattresses were no thicker than 3cm and single pillow left necks sore. Received more pillows. Negative - mattress, positive is the location, breakfast and staff.

We arrived hungry and road weary and we met with an excellent selection from an ample buffet featuring local fare, homemade jellies/jams, and a wide selection of delicious deserts including creme caramel to rival any in France and a vanilla sauce for use over the chocolate sweet (cake) or the berry compote. All of the vegetables were fresh and the service was top notch too.
In the morning, the excellent brunch buffet with a sans pareille for our two weeks in Scandinavia. The best coffee or tea and excellent offerings including all the dried fruits or nuts to add to one's porridge or cereals along with eggs, meats and breads. The rooms were large enough to allow for my daily pilates routine (something without which the long drives of the area are tough on my aging frame). Bath and bed were also well appointed and lighting too facilitated night visits to the toilet.

Room tip: Any choice seems fine.

This is a nice place with own parking - in winter it is used for those, who come to a ski resort. We were given two connected rooms, which was nice. There are a couple of playgrounds for kids. The hotel is not new, but old in a good way - rather charming.
