Just returned from a week's stay at the Nermo. Having visited Hafjell before we wanted to try the Nermo as it was billed as 'ski in, ski out'.
We had a room with a balcony overlooking the valley. It had recently been redecorated and although small was lovely. Had the weather been better, the balcony would have been more useful than for just keeping the beers cold. Bathroom was very up to date with a wonderful shower - plentiful hot water at all times.
Meals were taken on a half board basis. Continental breakfast with a good choice but no hot food offered except scrambled eggs one morning (cold) and porridge (not tried). Waffle iron available if you wanted a pancake or two. Evening meals were 3 course but no choice offered. Soup starter, main meal from buffet and a small cold pudding. I would rate food as wholesome and adequate - shame not more seafood, i.e. prawns, salmon etc as experienced in previous Norwegian hotels.
As with most hotels in Norway, alcohol prices were high. Around 300 NOK for cheapest bottle of wine and around 50 NOK for a bottle of local beer. We drank our duty free in our room or visited Woody's bar down by the slopes (we'd travelled with Norwegian Wood so had a discount card which made prices almost UK size).
The small problem with the Nermo intially was it was overrun by children who you had to fight through to get to the food. They also ran wild on the evenings - fine if you are a parent, but some people need to remember, not everyone loves their little darlings!
The 'ski in, ski out' option wasn't available at first due to lack of snow. This was resolved as it snowed solidly for a week whilst there. By that time however, we had hired a locker under the gondola in the resort (125NOK for a week for 2 people). The bus service was excellent and on time and picked up right outside the front door.
Our main issue was that the owners had booked a corporate party for the whole weekend. On checking in we were told they might disturb us with a little music they play. We expected a traditional Norwegian night. Actually that's what we got - a full blown disco under our room which was going on until at least 3.00 am (for 2 nights). The Norwegians party at full tilt so be warned. We requested action and were moved to the apartments which are separate to the hotel for 2 nights. Although we were very upset with the party disturbing us so badly, I cannot fault the hotel for their action. They dealt with us swiftly and couldn't apologise enough. A very nice bottle of wine at dinner on the Saturday evening also eased our issues slightly!
On the whole a very nice hotel, probably more suited to families than couples seeking a quiet break. It's a long walk to anywhere so if like us you are without transport except the bus (does not run very late) you can get very isolated - some would love this but we do enjoy our apres ski.
