Chris's apartments are delightfully sited off the not very beaten track of Kampos town.
It is nestled under the largest mountain on the island and when I was there it was quiet, the only noise is of birdsong and sound of Sid tilling his vegetable plot.
We received freshly picked flowers, fruit from the trees in the grounds and special greek style chapati's from Chris's kitchen. It was iddlic and your hosts are charming and friendly. Samos is littered with sandy beaches/coves and a short drive out of the small towns will find you in remote countryside and a landscape that has probably not changed since the venetians landed.
Local wine is good Samos white wine is lovely and worth buying. Few buses mean your own wheels are required, but scooter hire or bike hire is competitive.Lots of places to walk, don't go if you seek nightlife or groovy bars, its a place for lots of people wearing pastel and earth tones who like walking and outdoors; but do not be put off, its also a place to chill+ relax.......

We were lucky enough to be the only and first guests of the season a week ago and had the place to ourselves. It was wonderful. We had a fantastic welcome from owners Sid and Chris who shared fruit and roses from their garden and amazing potato pancakes!
The apartments are a 5 minute walk from the main street of Kambos/Votsilakias and set in glorious gardens. The pool is quite small but clean and perfectly good. Our apartment was on the first floor and looked out onto the mountains and nearby villages and the only sound we heard on waking was birdsong, a far cry from London noise!
Samos is one of the greenest islands I have ever visited and May is a perfect time. Everything is in full bloom and the scent of jasmine, honeysuckle and pine was ever present. We hired a scooter from Hermes car and bike hire on the main road for 3 days. It cost us about 50 odd euro and it was a brand new bike (with helmets). We zipped up and down roads and had a good old time finding coves and bays away from everyone, not that there were many people to escape from!
Kambos/Votsilakias is a quiet resort although you could imagine it got busier in the summer. Basically it's a long road with bars/tavernas/car hire/shops etc. with the sea on one side and accommodation on the other.
Our apartment was basic and quite small but this really didn't matter at all. We still managed to cook and bought fish from a guy in the village who sold his catch from the back of his truck each morning! We also ate out a bit and drank lovely Samos made wine - Golden Samena was a not bad white. It's also worth buying a tin of Samos honey to take home.
This is an island we definitely want to return to. Anyone thinking of coming to Chris apartments shouldn't hesitate.

Room Tip: we had a higher floor with view of the garden

We stayed at the Chris Apartments in September 2011 (8th to 22nd), which were an alternative to the one's we booked - Thomas Cook notified us seven days before departure that our original choice was no longer available due to over booking by the owners, but on arrival it was evident we had the better alternative.
Sid and Christina are lovely people who live on site and keep the whole place absolutely spotless. The apartments are modern and comfortable, and the bathroom was one of the best we have had in self catering accomodation in Greece.
The only two slight niggles are the lack of pots and pans and cooking implements, which we would have expected to be better in self catering accomodation (having said that, apart from breakfast we ate out in the numerous excellent restaurants and tavernas in the resort), and the quality of the towels which could be described at best to be well used (although clean) and thin.
Overall, the Chris Apartments provided a peaceful and relaxing setting for two weeks on a lovely island, and we will definitely return.

These apartments are lovely, located within very nice gardens, we stayed there for 2 weeks at the end of August 2011. Air con was a must as it was extremely hot, this was an extra charge (which we knew about) of 6 euros a day, there was a safety deposit box available, which was actually located at the bottom of the wardrobe in your room, you just had to pay for the key, which was 1 euro 50c a day

Sid and Chris the owners are very nice and they do everything around the place, including servicing the rooms and all the gardening. We arrived there on a Thursday and the rooms were serviced again with clean linen being provided on the Sunday, then on the following Thursday and then Sunday

The only disappointment was that the website for the apartments says - "The pool bar serves American style breakfast, like pancakes fried or scrambled eggs with bacon, orange juice coffee, fresh bread, jelly & butter, as well as American style lunches, such as cheese burgers with French fries and of course a wide range soft drinks and cocktails to be enjoyed by the pool side or the large court yard". But in fact there was none of this at all, there was a drinks machine but this was out of order, so basically there was nowhere on site to buy a drink of any description, which was a bit disappointing as we had expected it to be possible to buy something there

There are 3 ways of getting to the apartments, so you could actually vary your walk out or back, it was nice to have a change of scenery

We went with Manos part of Thomas Cook and flew with Thomson from Gatwick. We stayed at the Chris Apartments in Kambos/Votsalakia for the first two weeks in June. My wife and I are pensioners and are of average fitness. You can see our Samos Trip Report in the Samos forum section

Sid (the owner) meets the transfer coach at the bottom of the road and takes your cases up in his vehicle.

The Chris Apartments are about 5mins, slightly up hill, from the centre and beach and in an excellent, quite and rural setting. Sid and his wife Chris could not be more welcoming. They are surrounded by olive tress and Sid’s extensive vegetable and fruit garden.

Our apartment, number 12, was on the top floor of the main block (as requested) with a ground and 1st floor below. We overlooked the pool from the small balcony which had table and chairs. The apartment consisted of a main bedroom with twin beds and usual dresser etc. The kitchen and dining area with table and chairs and the third bed were separated from the main bedroom with a sliding door this room also contained the wardrobe. A small bath room with sink, toilet and shower (with curtain!) was off this room. There is a TV in the bedroom but it only seemed to have Greek programmes, but who watches TV on holiday? A security box is fitted in the room at an extra charge.

There is a two ring hob, kettle, fridge and the usual collection of cooking pots and implements. All the crockery and glasses matched and were clean. We did not use most of this as we only made a simple breakfast and ate out every evening.

Sheets and towels were changed and the apartment cleaned every Thursday and Sunday.

From the balcony you could see the sea all the way from left to right albeit above the tops of houses. From the back door you get spectacular views of the mountains. There was aircon (extra cost) but we did not use it as we found that by opening the window in the bedroom and the one in the bathroom we got a nice through draft from either the sea or the mountains and as both these windows were fitted with fly screens no problem with insects.

The standard and maintenance of these apartments is the best we have seen in all our times in Greece. In the bathroom not a tile or grout out of place and all looks new and very clean. All the curtains, sheets and towels seem new and nice and are laundered on site by Chris. Every drawer opens, every door closes and every light works as it should.

One day Sid gave us a bowl of apricots from his trees and another day Chris left a vase of fresh roses from the garden. As a veg grower myself I had long conversations with Sid about the different techniques required in a hot climate.

The pool is nice with sun beds and shades and kept immaculately clean by Sid.

There is a short cut to the main strip through Sid’s garden or you can get to the far end of the village by going right outside the front gates and down the back road which is quite and quicker especially useful to get to the bakery in the morning.

In reception there is a collection of books left by previous guests, just leave one when you take one.

These were the best kept apartments we have ever had in Greece and the location couldn’t have been better for us. We would certainly choose to stay here when we come again.

The Chris apartments are the perfect place for people looking for a quiet, away-from-it-all break in an unspoilt, easy-going resort. The accommodation is simple and basic, but modern and well designed and perfectly clean and comfortable. The self-catering studio accommodation comprises a bedroom with twin beds, kitchen / dining room with extra single bed tucked away in the corner and shower-room with w/c.

The management of the apartments and service is very hands-off. Rooms are cleaned and linen changed only once per week (there are discreet bin facilities located around the grounds for people to get rid of their own rubbish) and there is no manned pool bar – only a vending machine for drinks. However, we found the arrangements to be absolutely ideal and actually like being left to get on with our holiday without being cosseted by over-attentive staff. Sid and Christina, who own the apartments are really friendly and the whole place has a nice family-run feel about it.

The best thing about the Chris Apartments, however, is that it is wonderfully quiet. The Apartments are located around 150 metres back from the main beach road that runs through Kambos / Votsalakia, so it is unaffected by any noise coming from the resort. In addition, the Chris comprises only 22 apartments so it has a nice relaxed feel about it. There is a small swimming pool, which while we were there was empty much of the time. Perfect. It is difficult to imagine a more peaceful place to unwind for a couple of weeks.

The resort of Votsalakia is pretty and laid back with a reasonable number of bars and tavernas, many of which front onto the beach for views out over the bay. Votsalakia shares the same bay as neighbouring Kambos, about one kilometre away and has a long, pleasant beach with copious well-maintained sun-loungers.

It’s probably worth hiring a car for two or three days to get out and about and see the sights around Samos. The scenery is beautiful and the mountain roads are spectacular. In particular, we would recommend the bustling resort of Pythagoria, situated around a beautiful harbour front with its bars and fish tavernas and millionaire’s yachts moored in the marina.

Just a word about landing at Samos airport – it’s quite hair-raising and not for the faint-hearted. The airport runway is awkwardly situated on one of the few pieces of level ground on the island and involves the aircraft banking hard right out over the bay and again literally 300 feet above ground just before landing. There were quite a few gasps as we came in and a round of applause for the pilot once we were safely down. It's obviously perfectly safe, so enjoy the ride!
