My brother and i randomly decided to go to Crete and decided on the town of Kissamos. We stayed at Hotel Rebeka and they told us their sister restaurant was the cellar. We got a choice of like 10 different 4 course meal options + Raki for 9.50 euros! We arrived late at night so we decided to check it out. First off, its on the water so the view is just breath taking. Secondly, we walked in and were greeted with smiles and kindness. We sat down and ordered some beers, water and 2 of the menu choices. We had hummus, olives, taziki, and the deep fried zucchini (forget its name). was amazing!! then we had okra and chicken souvlaki, and desert. the food was AMAZING! I wasn't the hugest greek food fan before here but i guess i hadn't had any good in the past. We ate breakfast there (which was a lot but still really good) and the rest of our dinners there. We got to know the owner a bit and the staff there.. Poppy and Giorgos were so kind, provided the best service of anywhere i had experienced in europe, always had a smile and willing to do what it took to make sure our experience was memorable and top notch. The owner was full of positive energy, gaining rapport with all the guests and showing his genuine interest in making sure everyone was having the best possible time and enjoying all the food. Its a family run place i believe.. or they are like family so they speak to each other and if anything is wrong they fix it right away. No attitude, or disinterest.. they are genuine, kind and treat people exactly how they should in the hospitality industry (which i found lacks in many places in Europe). I highly recommend this taverna in Kissamos.. or even if driving by.. stop for a beer! The food is the best i had in greece, service is impecable , view is to die for... there really are no downsides to this place!!!
