We were travelling around Crete, and just about at the end of the day we got to Sunset. It's the most unexpected restaurant you would try to find. The food is great and authentic. The staff is fantastic. If you love fish and at the same time a wonderful view on to the sea, then that's the place to be. It's not fancy but down to earth...the fish is grilled on the wood BBQ. You get to chose your fish in the kitchen yourself and then the owner BBQs it himself. We were a bit unlucky as it was really windy, so we could not really sit outside. It's a must for fishlovers who want to experience a great hide away!

Just when I thought Greek food couldn't be better, I went to Sunset Fish Taverna! We ate there numerous time during our one-week stay in Sfinari. On one occasion, we ordered the divine Kakavia fish soup, vlika (boiled green with potatoes) and Cretan salad. One bite of the soup, and I thought I died and went to heaven! Simply delicious! The setting of the taverna is nestled in natural Cretan beauty - oceanfront with mountains in the background. Peaceful and quiet (except for the month of August, I'm told). Our young kids enjoyed playing on the beach while they waited for the food, and afterwards too while we enjoyed a generous complimentary dessert - yummy tiganites, with vanilla ice cream, drizzled with honey. Out of this world delicious! The owners Mr. Yianni and Mrs. Eleni were warm, kind-hearted, and gracious. Whatever we ate either grew in their garden or caught in the wild! Amazingly fresh. So fresh that it makes you wonder about the food here in the states. I can't say enough good things about this family taverna. I highly recommend this taverna! You won't be disappointed. You'll enjoy amazing food and a beautiful sunset! Oops, forgot to mention that they also offer free campy nearby.

Be warned, if you venture here, you may not bother to try many more restaurants in the vicinity, the freshest, most delicious, consistently good food we have had this trip.

We have eaten lunch and dinner here a number of times over the last week, the complimentary appetisers and Mama's special 'donut' dessert are so good, make the journey, but go with an empty stomach....

This place was recommended to us by our hotel and did not disappoint. We picked out our own fresh fish that was caught yesterday, and the atmosphere and wait staff were excellent. We would highly recommend to anyone looking for a quiet and authentic Greek meal on the ocean.

Excellent fish in a scenic setting, overlooking Sfinari beach. Friendly staff who will take you to the kitchen to choose the fish, which is grilled outside in their oven.
The Cretan fish soup (kakavia) with skorpio fish was fantastic, as was the octopus stew with honey.
Generous complimentary dessert (cheese pie with honey and fruit, or ice cream and fruit ) served with a glass of their home made 'orangecello'. Prices were very reasonable. We went twice in a row and enjoyed every minute of it!
You will find this great restaurant on Sfinari beach, right at the end of the beach, after a couple of other fish taverns. Don't miss it.
