This is a very special place, wonderful panorama and water, it's very nice to walk in so low water for hundreds of meters. This has to be seen once in a lifetime!

“One of the best beaches in the world”

Awesome scenery, spectacular volcanic mountains. Aqua Blue sea. Very organized travel organization with superb boats that have great food and everything "beach" on board.

“Beatiful and magnificent wild beach”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 25, 2014

One of the nost beatiful beaches I ever visit, very hot water, low tide, almost no waves, and magnificent colors of the water. Can be reached by car, a very bad road, or bay cruiser ships, departing Kissamos harbour. It is sugested to take the big boat for a daily trip, because you arrive directly to the island. It is worhwhile to enjoy the ambience and the environmnet

“Beautiful, interesting but full”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 25, 2014

Balos is really beautiful place to see, truly. However, as we came there with a cruise ship full of people (hundreds and hundreds of them), it really was quickly overcrowded. However I recommend walking a bit further from the ship, as most of the people are kind of lazy to go that far and it's at least a bit better.

Be warned, there really isn't any shade there, so if you have problems with long stays on the sun, you might want to get a beach umbrella (there were available on the ship for rent of, I think, 4 euros per umbrella with some deposit you get back when you return it). We didn't get it, though.

Water is really shallow and warm, there are big "lakes" of water that's around the ankle-to-knee depth. Also, the sea itself is mostly 0.5-1.5m deep. If you go even further into the sea, it might get more, not sure, but it mostly varies between these.

Beach is sandy, and you get there by walking on really big rocks so you might want to be careful with little kids (and take them in your arms, for example). Entrance to water is mostly stony and some of the stones are really sharp, so be careful. There are some ways how to get to the water mostly through sand, but it really takes some time to find them.

You kind of pay a fee of 1 euro when going to Balos. It is meant to help the cleaning and preserving of the area, if I recall correctly.
