“Nice small hotel with great cuisine”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 28, 2014

I spent three days and two nights at this property in central Catalonia. I had heard of it in the radio, more specifically because of the chef and promoter Nandu Jubany, and feared I might have too high expectations regarding its cuisine. All the opposite.
The place itself is nice and quiet, with all rooms different from each other (some with jacuzzi, mine had just a big shower with plenty of hot water), big beds and air-con. There is also a small indoor swimming pool, small enough to look like a big bathtub. The personnel is always attentive and helpful. But best of all is the produce of the kitchen, mostly unsophisticated but top quality ingredients excellently prepared.
Starting with the most obviously easy, the breakfast is a complete buffet of cereals, fruit juices, pastry and local pig delicatessen and cheese products. You would like to taste them all. I focused on the cheese and all the variations of delicatessen that so perfectly combine with "pa amb tomàquet" (bread with tomato, for those who can't speak Catalan).
Then two lunches and two dinners were just top quality each and every course: fideuà (sorry, no translation for this: you gotta try it), crisp roasted baby pig (it melts out in your mouth), slow cooked hake, fish soup, potato and leek soup, ... even the salads were top notch. The desserts combined multiple creams (ice cream, whipped cream, Catalan cream, ...) and red fruits each time in a different way, not spectacular but effective.
But my favorite was the last lunch, served as multiple small tasting specialties: Raspberry iced Bloody Mary, home style cod fritters, chicken cannelloni, paella, puff pastry with foie curlers and I can't remember how many more. Definitely a 10.

Room Tip: The rooms in the top floor have no jacuzzi. Better chose one of the lower level. Also closer to the...

A wonderful restored old Masia in a real nice and quiet village. Great style with combining old and modern with very good taste. Excellent kitchen for lunches and dinners, breakfast with great variety and food from the area. Very friendly and always staff. Highly recommended place.

Room Tip: Had room 4 and liked it a lot. A little dark but very stylish.

I booked this with a friend for a weekend and was positively surprised, it is clean, solid and beautiful.

The restaurant is a great experience and very well priced, I recommend you choose the taster/degustation menu and let the waiter choose and wine by the glass for each course.

Also spend some time looking into the many activities you can do here during the stay, we got hooked on off-read Segways arranged by the hotel!

And yes, this is a hidden gem, quiet, classy, relaxed, nice...

Firstly there is never anyone around to serve you a cold beer, or in fact answer a query. It says the reception it's manned 24 hours a day but it isn't. Also it's extremely difficult to find when you first arrive? Why this day and age? It's a fab hotel that lacks something.....employees! I got locked in the toilet by the pool as there was no handle on the door, I had to jump down to another level, about a six or seven foot jump. I came to explain this to the lady on reception, but guess what she wasn't there..... There are no heated towel rails in the suites so every time you come to use your towel it's damp! Breakfast is the same every single day......sausage and omelette ! The lady serving us seemed alarmed after day four when I suggest that I didn't want an omelette, it made my group laugh.
Our view from our window in our suite (just under 200 pounds a night) was of the sign Mas Albereda...? How odd to have that as a view.?. No one had thought that through.
On the plus side its a gorgeous hotel, the restaurant food is perfect and we never ventured too far for food after trying the menu on the first night! Its in a perfect location if you like quiet, there is a bar in the village but that's about it,oh and a supermarket.
I'd return. For all it's faults, just know that you sort of make your own way in this hotel, if you ask for an iron you get one, you don't get a board as well...it's sort of a hotel that is not bothered about making money, no one would dream of bothering you in the day to see if you'd like a drink by the pool...
Try it...but know its different to normal 4 star hotels!

This old Masia catalana was amazingly well-renewed. Very comfortable room with wooden ceiling! Breakfast was unbeatable! Full of local embutidos and amazing kitchen chef. We asked him if he could make a couple of changes and he definatelly delighted us with great cusine! Coming back again defo!
PS: Pool was opened all night long which is good if you have jetlag like me!

We (two adults, two small children) stayed here for two nights at the end of our Catalan holiday. It is not really a place you would want to bring your children, but the staff were very accommodating and friendly and other guests did not seem to mind their antics in the swimming pool. We stayed in the suite in the main building and they put two extra beds in the 'sitting area'. It was a beautiful room and was very spacious. The hotel is originally an old farm house that has been tastefully renovated into a boutique hotel. It really is very nice. The food and service were both excellent. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and would definitely recommend it. On the Saturday night we ate outside in the garden. The meal ('menu under the stars'), service and location were super. The food really was excellent and they accommodated the children also. The restaurant was closed on Sunday night so we ate in a restaurant in the village. The hotel is located on the edge of the village, however it is a small place so there are limited restaurants in which to eat.

This is a wonderful property! A beautiful old Catalan farm house outside which has been transformed into a modern (but respectful of the architecture) luxury hotel. It is just a few miles outside Vic, in Sant Julia de Vilatorta. It is a peaceful oasis in the country side, nestled near a sweet little village. It has great amenities, indoor pool, outdoor dining, restaurant. and bar area, beautiful rooms. Very romantic.
*Please note that this hotel is not in any sort of commerce area, within walking distance. It is more of a pleasure destination.

The abrupt woman at check in (owner?) does not seem to speak English, not expected, but my Spanish (not Catalan) was not much of a help either, or so she pretended. Vic and the surrounding area seems to be rather charmingly stuck in it's roots. But it is very manageable.

If you are traveling by car through the region, I strongly suggest you stop here for a night. Beautiful hotel. peaceful countryside, charming area.
Enjoy the drive up to Rupit, and don't miss Planta de Sau
