Hotel Torre Marti
Reviewed March 8, 2014

Alas, we were only able to spend one night in this lovely property and I would head back to it in a heartbeat. Nestled in a grove of trees near the center of a small village and a short hop to the larger town of Vic, the Torre Marti allows for a relaxing and unique hotel experience. The rooms are decorated in with an intriguing mix of antique objects, contemporary art (done by the owner of the property), and whimsical touches like the toy train that greeted us on a shelf in our room. The faciities are all modern with comfortable beds, a lovely bath that opened onto an even lovelier balcony overlooking the garden. Roger, our host, our chef, and a genuinely nice guy prepared an exquisite multi-course dinner with Catalan food products and wine for an amazingly reasonable price. The breakfast also featured local food products and Catalan specialties. If you are interested in a hotel experience that gives you much more than a room and a bed, the Torre Marti is a superb choice.

My husband and I stayed for 2 nights in early November.

The hotel is a large home with a lovely garden in a quiet and well- kept village which has a small historical centre. The village has a lot of quite expensive holiday homes. The village is a maybe 10 minute drive to Vic which is your typical town with the old church, old historical centre and a large square with cafes around. Then they are surrounded by apartment blocks.

The hotel is manged by a wonderful host Roger who does just about everything. He is the hotel reception manager, chef and tour consultant. Roger's hospitality is what makes the stay welcoming. He is also an excellent chef who would explain each course when it is served. Just a very warm person.

We were assigned the Arches room on the 2 nd floor. The room is very clean with a roomy bathroom. But I would say the decor is not of very high quality. It has basic thin blue cotton curtains for example. This is a bed and breakfast place and the room feels like one. Although the food downstairs is of restaurant quality.

Roger gave us excellent advise as to where to go in the village and places to visit around, and the recommendations were spot on. We very much enjoyed the sight- seeing.

The garden is charming and homey, pretty enough that we took a number of pictures. The website accurately reflects the feel of the garden. Although the pool is old and small. It has not been cleaned for swimming when we were there in November. It would have been too cold. So the pool area may look different in the summer.

Because of Roger, the good food, the quiet hotel, the nice village, the proximity to Vic and the proximity to the expressway for driving purpose, we would recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: I would take a room on the 2 nd floor for the size, the balcony and view of garden.

The hotel is located in a smaller community outside of Vic. It is composed of a main building, which includes the restaurant, and a out building with guest rooms. We were in the out building. Our room was decent sized and clean and quiet. The hotel has an attractive large garden area and a pool, which we did not use in October. The restaurant is fairly dramatic, in a turn of the 19th C style. It also serves very good food. What makes a hotel 5* rather than 4*? In this case it is Roger, the hotel proprietor and chef. He was very welcoming and helpful. When we mentioned we weren't picking up wifi, he brought us a router and installed it in our room. We had a city wide power failure one evening and he came along with candles for us. He is also an excellent chef who takes great pride in the presentation of his meals. We were the only dinner guests on two nights and he accommodated an earlier (8PM) meal time. Dinner, sans menu each night, was what he cooked that evening. Food was excellent and creative (tuna in a fig reduction, slow cooked pork with a vegetable puree, chocolat fondant). Breakfast was also served sans menu, with a creative presentation of fruits, omelettes and pastries. This was a good base from which to visit the region and a delightful stay.

Helpful, friendly service, a bedroom fit for a 1950s film icon, excellent food and only a short (ish) walk away from some spectacular scenary. And if you want more there's also a church nearby (Sant Roma) that spends most of the year completely submerged by the local reservoir.

Not because the decoration of the rooms is a peace of dream, not because the food is increadible, not because the welcome is the most exclusive and warmly you may ever find in a hotel, not because the surrounding landscape is a present for the soul but just because this place is simply surrealistic, this is an hotel any passioned traveler has to try once in his life. Be prepared to a jump in time, to an experience you may never forget, to simply enjoy the fact that life can be magical sometimes ...

We spent the first two nights of our honeymoon at Torre Marti and really enjoyed it. The house is beautiful, with very eclectic furnishings/decor - the perfect antidote to bland chain hotels. The gardens and swimming pool are lovely too, but looking at the snow covered photos posted by others I can imagine the house itself is very cosy in the winter.
Roger was the perfect host - he saved us a delicious breakfast knowing we'd be up very late having staggered home at 4am after our wedding. Well worth a stay if you're in the area.

Room Tip: All the rooms are different. We stayed in the suite which was very nice - two rooms, a spacious bath...

We stayed here for 4 nights and loved the peace and quiet of a beautiful villa set in a tranquil garden on the edge of the elegant village of of Sant Julia de Vilatorta . The house is sensitively restored and full of interesting antiques carefully combined with all modern comforts such as a good shower, an excellent bed, HD TV and free Wi-fi. Nothing was too much trouble for Roger, the host, and we were spoiled with three nights of his fantastic cooking, discovering new tastes and regional specialities.

Although this area is only an hour or so from Barcelona it seemed to be relatively undiscovered by many British tourists and we had the luxury of wandering alone round the beautiful and serene cloisters of the monasteries in Ripoll and St Joan de les Abbadesses - a far cry from the spectacular, but mobbed, Montserrat monastery. Further wandering around the narrow streets of the nearest town,Vic, yields many excellent restaurants, cafes and a state of the art museum crammed with vivid medieval paintings amongst many other collections.
